Before changing a driver or opening the chassis, identify three things: whether your Framework Laptop 12 uses a 13th Gen Intel Core processor or Intel Core Series 3, which operating system you are running, and whether Windows is still in first-time setup. Framework publishes separate firmware and driver pages for these two Laptop 12 generations, so downloading the wrong package can leave a working repair incomplete.
Also record the exact symptom and message, and whether it began after a clean operating-system installation, driver or BIOS update, sleep/resume, or hardware change. The steps below are strongest for Windows installation problems and the documented 13th Gen “No Bootable Device Found” case; Linux and persistent hardware faults require a narrower, evidence-based path.

Start with the right diagnosis
A Laptop 12 problem is not automatically a driver problem. A missing device immediately after installing Windows can be expected until Framework’s bundle is installed. A touchpad that will not two-finger-scroll during setup can be using Windows’ fallback driver. By contrast, a device that still fails after setup and the correct bundle is installed may need hardware or support investigation.

Record this information first
- Processor generation: 13th Gen Intel Core or Intel Core Series 3.
- Operating system: Windows 11, a Linux distribution, or another supported system.
- Installation state: Windows first-time setup, completed setup, or an existing installation that previously worked.
- Exact symptom: for example, “No Bootable Device Found – Press any key to go to boot manager,” no Wi-Fi list, missing devices in Windows, or a scrolling failure.
- Trigger: clean installation, driver update, BIOS update, sleep/resume, loss of power, or a hardware change.
- Build state: DIY or pre-built, particularly if the machine will not boot.
Do not transfer a filename, BIOS image, or troubleshooting sequence from one processor generation to the other without checking the corresponding Framework page.

Choose the correct Laptop 12 downloads page
The two generations have separate BIOS and Windows-driver resources. The version numbers below were listed in Framework’s September 2026 release entries; they are time-sensitive, so confirm the live page immediately before installing anything.
| Processor generation | BIOS listing at the September 2026 release entry | Windows Driver Bundle listing | Installation Wi-Fi package |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13th Gen Intel Core | BIOS 3.09, listed September 8, 2026 | v1.03, listed September 8, 2026 | Separately listed package dated September 3, 2026 |
| Intel Core Series 3 | BIOS 3.00, listed September 7, 2026 | v1.00, listed September 7, 2026 | Separately listed package dated September 3, 2026 |
The full Driver Bundle is for hardware support after Windows is installed. The separate Wi-Fi package is intended to let the Windows installer find a network. They are not interchangeable steps.
Fresh Windows installation: restore missing hardware support
Install the complete Driver Bundle after setup
A clean Windows installation may not contain all of the drivers required for the Laptop 12’s hardware. Once Windows 11 setup has completed, open Framework’s BIOS & Drivers resources for your exact processor generation and install that generation’s Laptop 12 Driver Bundle.
Framework’s installation guide states: “Don’t forget to install the Driver Bundle (Download here) after you complete Windows 11 installation.” Treat that as a required post-install step, not an optional tuning package. It is the appropriate first action when Windows loads but devices, controls, or connectivity are incomplete immediately after a clean install.

Restart when the installer requests it, then check whether the original symptom has changed. If a device remains absent after the correct bundle and a restart, record the device name and continue with a generation-specific support path rather than repeatedly reinstalling unrelated packages.
Why doesn’t Wi-Fi show up during Windows installation?
At the Windows screen labeled “Let’s connect you to a network”, the installer may not yet have a wireless driver. Framework provides a separate Wi-Fi package for this situation. You need the Windows installation USB and the package copied onto that USB before starting, or another way to place the package on the installation media.
- At “Let’s connect you to a network,” select the blue Install Driver control.
- In the file picker, open the installation USB’s ESD-USB device.
- Select the folder named for the Framework Wi-Fi driver package.
- Let Windows load the driver, then check whether wireless networks appear.
- Continue setup. After Windows 11 finishes, install the complete generation-matched Driver Bundle as well.
The Wi-Fi package solves network detection in the installer; it does not replace the full post-install bundle. If no networks appear after the package is loaded, verify that you selected the folder for the Framework package and that the download matches the Laptop 12 generation.
What to prepare for a clean installation
- A Windows installation USB. Framework lists a USB flash drive as a tool for its Laptop 12 Windows installation guide.
- The generation-specific Driver Bundle for use after setup.
- The separate installation Wi-Fi package if the installer must connect wirelessly.
- A second computer or another method of downloading files if the Laptop 12 cannot reach the internet during setup.
The USB is an installation tool, not a general remedy for a failed storage device, an unresponsive system, or a persistent hardware fault. No particular brand, capacity, or transfer speed is established by the installation instructions.

Why is my touchpad not scrolling during Windows setup?
During Windows installation, the touchpad can be operating with a fallback driver. Framework specifically notes that two-finger scrolling may not work at this stage and that the touchpad should behave normally after the Framework Driver Bundle is installed.
Finish setup without two-finger scrolling
- Use Tab and Enter to move through controls and activate selections.
- Use the keyboard’s arrow keys where the setup screen supports them.
- Click and drag a scrollbar if the pointer works but gesture scrolling does not.
- Connect an external USB mouse for the duration of setup.
If the cursor does not appear after you swipe on the touchpad for several seconds, Framework’s guide suggests holding the power button until the laptop shuts down, waiting 15 seconds, and powering it on again. Complete setup, install the correct Driver Bundle, and test the touchpad again.
This advice is limited to the Windows installation context. A touchpad that remains unresponsive or lacks gestures after setup and bundle installation is not proven to have a software-only cause; inspect the symptom further and use Framework support instructions rather than assuming another driver will fix it.
Fix the “No Bootable Device Found” message
The documented Framework article for “No Bootable Device Found – Press any key to go to boot manager” applies specifically to the 13th Gen Intel Laptop 12. Do not treat it as an unchanged diagnosis for Core Series 3.

If you assembled a DIY Laptop 12
- Power the laptop off completely.
- Check that the installed components are seated and installed correctly, with particular attention to the internal storage device.
- Confirm that an operating system has actually been installed on the internal drive. A newly assembled system with an empty drive cannot boot an operating system.
- Follow Framework’s supported operating-system installation guide for the system you intend to use.
- If a supported installation is complete and the laptop still reports the same message, contact Framework support with the exact text, generation, storage details, and the steps already performed.
These checks distinguish an uninstalled or incorrectly installed DIY system from a machine that used to boot and then stopped. Do not jump directly to repartitioning, reinstalling, or replacing the storage drive; the official guidance does not establish any of those actions as a guaranteed fix.
If the laptop was pre-built
For a pre-built unit showing this documented condition, Framework directs owners to contact support. Provide the exact on-screen message and explain whether the failure followed an update, power event, sleep/resume cycle, or hardware change.
Use BIOS history as context, not proof
Framework’s 13th Gen BIOS release history records several narrowly defined fixes:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- BIOS 3.06 fixed an issue in which hardware encryption on OPAL drives could cause the boot drive to disappear on subsequent reboots.
- BIOS 3.04 fixed a boot issue after power was removed and the laptop was turned on again within one minute.
- An earlier release note mentions a fan-not-detected error under a specific BIOS setting.
These notes describe historical conditions. They do not establish the cause of a particular current failure. Check the BIOS version currently installed and read the current generation-specific release notes before considering an update. Framework provides a method for checking the current BIOS version on its BIOS page. Do not install a 13th Gen BIOS on Core Series 3 or infer that updating firmware will repair an unverified storage or installation problem.

Separate installer limitations from hardware evidence
| Observed situation | Most useful first path | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| Windows setup cannot list wireless networks | Load the separate Wi-Fi package from the ESD-USB folder at “Let’s connect you to a network.” | A missing installer driver is a plausible explanation; install the full bundle after setup. |
| Two-finger scrolling fails during Windows setup | Use keyboard navigation, scrollbar dragging, or a USB mouse; finish setup and install the bundle. | Framework documents a fallback touchpad driver during setup. |
| Devices are incomplete immediately after a clean Windows install | Install the generation-matched Laptop 12 Driver Bundle. | A clean installation may lack full hardware support. |
| “No Bootable Device Found” on a 13th Gen DIY system | Verify component and storage installation, then verify that an operating system is installed. | The official article covers these checks and directs unresolved cases to support. |
| A touchpad, Wi-Fi adapter, or other device still fails after setup and the correct bundle | Collect the exact symptom and use Framework support or hardware-specific guidance. | The setup fallback explanation no longer proves a software-only cause. |
When a physical component may be involved
The Laptop 12 is modular. Framework’s product information lists four expansion-card slots, one SO-DIMM slot, upgradeable Wi-Fi, and replaceable storage. Those design features make inspection or replacement possible, but they do not identify which part has failed.
Use symptoms to choose the next check
- If the failure began only during Windows setup and disappears after the Driver Bundle, keep the diagnosis at the installer-driver level.
- If a device fails across operating systems or continues failing after the correct bundle, document that persistence before opening the laptop.
- If a boot error follows assembly or a storage change, verify installation and operating-system presence before ordering parts.
- If a firmware update or power event preceded the failure, record the installed BIOS version and the timing for support.
Only name or order a replacement after diagnostics point to a particular component. Check Framework’s generation-specific replacement information and support instructions first; the modular design does not make every Laptop 12 part interchangeable between generations.
Linux troubleshooting requires a separate path
The available Framework material does not establish a complete, model-specific Linux command sequence for every Laptop 12 symptom. Linux behavior can vary by distribution, release, kernel, firmware, and desktop environment. Use Framework’s current Linux compatibility matrix and the guide for your distribution, then contact official support when the documented guidance does not resolve the issue.
Do not apply the Windows Driver Bundle, Windows installer Wi-Fi procedure, or the 13th Gen no-boot article as if they were universal Linux instructions. Record the distribution and release, the Laptop 12 generation, the exact error, and whether the system worked before an update or hardware change so the relevant guide can be selected.
A safe update and recovery workflow
- Identify the generation. Confirm 13th Gen Intel Core or Intel Core Series 3 before opening a download page.
- Capture the state. Write down the operating system, setup phase, exact message, recent change, and DIY or pre-built status.
- Use the narrowest official fix. For installer Wi-Fi, load the separate Wi-Fi package. For post-install missing devices, use the full Driver Bundle.
- Restart and retest. Check the original symptom after the installation has completed and the laptop has restarted.
- Check firmware carefully. Read the current generation-specific BIOS page and verify the installed BIOS version before deciding whether a firmware update is relevant.
- Stop before destructive changes. Do not repartition, erase, or replace storage solely because a boot message appeared; first determine whether the drive is installed and contains an operating system.
- Escalate with evidence. Give Framework support the generation, BIOS version, operating system, exact message, build state, and a concise list of checks already completed.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Downloading a BIOS or driver bundle for the other Laptop 12 processor generation.
- Using the post-install Driver Bundle when the Windows installer specifically needs the separate Wi-Fi package.
- Assuming missing two-finger scrolling during setup means the touchpad is defective.
- Applying the documented 13th Gen boot article to Core Series 3 without checking current guidance.
- Treating an old BIOS release note as a diagnosis for a new failure.
- Ordering a replacement component before diagnostics identify the failed part.
- Using third-party driver-updater utilities instead of Framework’s official downloads.
- Describing an issue as widespread or assigning a defect rate: no published prevalence figure is established for Laptop 12 driver or hardware faults in the cited official material.
The Bottom Line
Match every BIOS and driver download to the Laptop 12 processor generation, distinguish the installer Wi-Fi package from the full post-install Driver Bundle, and treat setup-only touchpad limits differently from failures that persist afterward. For the documented 13th Gen boot message, verify storage installation and operating-system presence before contacting support; for Core Series 3, use its own current guidance.
