If a Chrome AI Skill will not delete, or a deleted Skill keeps coming back, start with the official control: open Chrome, choose Ask Gemini, type / in the prompt box, select Browse Skills, open the Skill’s More menu, and choose Delete. You can also go directly to chrome://skills/yourSkills. If the item still appears, first establish whether it is a saved Chrome Skill, a library recommendation, or a Skill managed in Gemini Apps. Google’s current public documentation explains deletion but does not publish a confirmed cause or repair for a saved Chrome Skill that returns after deletion.
What “reappearing” can mean
Chrome Skills are reusable prompts for Gemini in Chrome. A saved Skill can be applied to the current page and, when you choose, to other open tabs. Chrome also presents a library of ready-to-use Skills. Those two surfaces can look similar, but deleting a saved Skill is not documented as removing an equivalent item from the library.

A similarly named entry may therefore be a different Skill on a different product surface. Chrome AI Mode history is another separate feature; deleting AI Mode history does not delete a Chrome Skill.

Use Google’s official deletion path
Follow these steps on the computer where you use Gemini in Chrome:
- Open Chrome and select Ask Gemini.
- Click or focus the prompt field and type
/. This opens the Skills menu. - At the bottom of the menu, select Browse Skills.
- Find the Skill you want to remove.
- Open that Skill’s More menu.
- Select Delete, then confirm any prompt Chrome displays.
Google Chrome Help also documents a direct route: enter chrome://skills/yourSkills in Chrome’s address bar. This opens the page that manages your saved Chrome Skills without requiring you to start from the Gemini prompt menu.
After deleting, close and reopen the Skills view and look for the exact name and wording you removed. A library recommendation with a similar title is not proof that the saved Skill survived. Compare the full title, description, and location rather than relying on a shortened label in a picker.
When Chrome AI Skills won’t delete: a diagnostic sequence
1. Confirm the surface before repeating deletion
Open chrome://skills/yourSkills directly. If the entry is listed there, it is the saved Chrome Skill covered by Google’s deletion instructions. Use the More menu on that page and delete it again.
If the name appears only after you choose Browse Skills, check whether it is presented as a ready-to-use library item. Google describes Chrome as having both saved Skills and a library, but does not state that deleting a saved item permanently hides a matching library recommendation. In that case, the visible item may be a recommendation rather than a restored personal copy.
If you are looking at the Skills page inside Gemini Apps settings, switch to Chrome and use the Chrome Skills page instead. Gemini Apps Skills have their own management page and controls. A Gemini Apps Skill deleted there cannot be restored, according to Gemini Apps Help, but that rule does not establish how Chrome Skill recurrence works.
2. Check the exact Google account and Chrome profile
Google says saved Chrome Skills are available on signed-in Chrome desktop devices. Check the profile avatar in the Chrome window and verify the Google account currently signed in. If several accounts or Chrome profiles are used on the same computer, open the Skills page in each relevant profile and compare the entry.

You can also check another signed-in Chrome desktop device to see whether the same saved Skill is present there. This is a useful diagnostic because it tells you whether you are looking at the same signed-in experience, but Google does not document changing accounts or checking another device as a fix for a Skill that returns.
Record the account context before escalating the problem: the profile name, the signed-in account, the device, and whether the entry appears in the saved list or only in the library. Those details make the symptom precise and avoid confusing two similarly named entries.

3. Repeat deletion from the direct page
If the exact saved Skill remains in chrome://skills/yourSkills, perform the deletion from that direct page rather than only from the prompt picker. Use the Skill’s More menu, choose Delete, and then reload the page.
Do not assume a menu disappearing from one Gemini panel proves that the saved record was removed. The direct Skills page is the documented management location, so it is the best place to verify the result. If the page shows several similar entries, open each one before deleting so that you do not remove the wrong prompt.

4. Capture the state immediately after deletion
When troubleshooting “deleted Skill keeps coming back,” note what happens after the deletion:
- The entry disappears from the saved Skills page and never returns.
- The entry disappears from the saved page but remains visible in Browse Skills.
- The exact entry remains in the saved page immediately after deletion.
- The entry is absent on one device but visible on another signed-in Chrome desktop device.
- The entry disappears, then returns only after switching profiles, accounts, or devices.
These outcomes describe different situations. Only the third outcome clearly shows that the saved entry is still present at the documented management location. The second may simply be a library recommendation, while the fourth and fifth may involve different account or profile context. None of these observations, by itself, proves a synchronization defect or identifies a repair.
5. Check for a naming or presentation mismatch
Write down the complete name exactly as displayed. A library Skill can have a title that resembles a personal Skill, and a Gemini Apps Skill can use the same words as a Chrome Skill. Compare the location, icon or surrounding heading, and the controls available in the More menu. The important question is not merely “does this name appear?” but “is this the same object in the same management page?”
Check whether your Chrome setup supports the feature
Chrome Skills are being rolled out gradually. Google Chrome Help currently lists the following conditions for Gemini in Chrome Skills:

These requirements matter when the Skills menu is missing, behaves differently between profiles, or appears on one computer but not another. They do not explain a confirmed recurrence after a successful deletion; Google’s public help does not identify a specific recurrence bug.
The feature announcement from Chrome Product Manager Hafsah Ismail on April 14, 2026, said Skills were beginning to roll out to Gemini in Chrome on desktop: “Starting today, we’re rolling out Skills to Gemini in Chrome on desktop, helping you streamline your AI-powered browsing.” Availability can therefore differ during the rollout, even when two computers appear similar.
Enterprise and school users should treat administrator status as a separate check. A managed account may require an administrator to enable Gemini in Chrome, and local policy can affect whether the feature or its controls are shown. If the same computer behaves differently in a personal profile and a managed profile, record that distinction rather than assuming deletion failed.

If Skills are missing altogether
Do not use the rollout-enablement steps below as a cure for a Skill that reappears. They are for a different symptom: the Skills feature is not visible.
- In Chrome, enter
chrome://versionin the address bar and check the installed Chrome version. - Google Chrome Help’s manual rollout procedure says to check for Chrome version 147 or higher.
- Open
chrome://flagsand search for Skills. - Enable the Skills flag if Google’s current instructions show it as required for your installation.
- Relaunch Chrome.
- Open the Gemini side panel and type
/in the prompt field.
Flags and rollout labels can change. Treat the current Chrome Help page as the authority for availability instructions, and avoid changing unrelated experimental flags while diagnosing deletion. A version or flag check can explain why one installation lacks Skills; it cannot establish why an already-deleted saved entry returned.
Distinguish Chrome Skills from Gemini Apps Skills
The word “Skill” is used in more than one Google product. Chrome Skills are used through Gemini in Chrome and are managed from Chrome’s Skills area. Gemini Apps Skills are managed from Gemini Apps settings. They are separate systems.
If the item is in Gemini Apps, open the Gemini Apps Skills page and use its deletion control. Gemini Apps Help states that a deleted Gemini Apps Skill cannot be restored and that deletion is available only from that Skills page. That statement should not be extended to Chrome Skills: it does not establish why a Chrome Skill might reappear or provide a repair for Chrome.
Likewise, Chrome AI Mode history is unrelated. Its history and My Activity controls govern AI Mode activity, not the reusable prompts saved as Chrome Skills. Sending a reader to AI Mode history will not remove a Chrome Skill.

The exact Skill is in your saved list
- Open
chrome://skills/yourSkills. - Use More > Delete.
- Reload the page and verify the exact name is gone.
- If it remains, record Chrome version, operating system, profile, account, and the time of deletion. Google has not published a confirmed recurrence fix, so these details are important for a support report.
The name appears only in Browse Skills
