If an app shows black bars, stays in a phone-sized panel, stretches, crops buttons, rotates unexpectedly, restarts when you unfold the phone, or crashes on the Vivo X Fold6’s large display, first determine whether the fault is limited to that app. Compare the same app on the cover and inner displays, test both permitted orientations, update the app and phone, and only then try any per-app aspect-ratio control that your software actually provides. A problem isolated to one app is usually a compatibility issue for that app’s developer; display problems affecting several apps or the system interface are a reason to contact Vivo.
The exact settings labels and paths can vary by country and OriginOS build. Vivo’s India listings identify the X Fold6 with OriginOS 7 and Android 17, an 8.02-inch main display, a 6.51-inch cover display, and unfolded dimensions of 157.16 × 145.66 mm. Treat those as India-market specifications, not a guarantee of the software on every phone. Check your own model, region and software version before following a version-specific instruction.

Start by identifying exactly what is wrong
“The app does not work on the inner screen” can describe several different failures. Write down the visible symptom before changing settings; the distinction determines whether you are looking at a layout limitation, an orientation restriction, or a broader device fault.
- Letterboxing or black bars: the app occupies a smaller rectangle while unused areas remain at the sides or top and bottom.
- Phone-sized panel: the interface is centered or pinned to one side instead of using the unfolded display.
- Stretching: text, icons or images look unusually wide or tall.
- Cropping: a heading, field, menu or button is cut off, or controls sit underneath a system area.
- Unexpected rotation: the app changes between portrait and landscape, or refuses the orientation you need.
- State loss: unfolding restarts the app, returns to its opening screen or loses unsaved work.
- Crashing or freezing: the app closes or stops responding only after the display changes.
Record the app’s exact name and version, the phone’s model and region, and the current OriginOS and Android versions. Capture a screenshot for a static layout problem or a short screen recording for a rotation, unfold or crash problem. Include whether the device was fully unfolded, partly open, or being rotated when the symptom appeared.

Confirm whether the inner display is the cause
Run a cover-versus-inner comparison
- Open the app on the cover display and perform one repeatable action, such as opening a particular page or form.
- Unfold the phone and repeat the same action on the inner display.
- Close and reopen the app on each display so you are comparing a fresh launch as well as a live transition.
- If the app supports both orientations, repeat the test in portrait and landscape on both screens.
Write down four results: whether the app fills each display, whether controls are complete, whether the orientation is correct, and whether the app keeps its state while unfolding. If the same defect appears on the cover display, the inner panel may not be the primary cause. If it appears only after unfolding, you have a useful compatibility condition to report, but not proof that the phone’s hardware is defective.
Check more than one app
Test a second unrelated app, preferably one with a different developer and a different type of interface. One app showing bars or clipped controls points toward that app’s large-screen support. Several unrelated apps, the launcher, settings screens or notification shade showing distortion point toward a system-level display or software issue. This distinction prevents you from repeatedly changing a setting that cannot repair an app’s own layout.
Understand what the phone and app are trying to do
The X Fold6 presents two different working areas: Vivo’s India store lists an 8.02-inch inner display and a 6.51-inch cover display. An app can therefore receive a substantially different available width, height and aspect ratio when you unfold the device. The app may also be recreated, resized or asked to change orientation during that transition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAndroid’s compatibility documentation identifies fixed orientation, fixed aspect ratio and a lack of app resizability as common causes of poor large-screen behavior and letterboxing. Android Developers describes the consequence this way: “Apps that restrict device orientation, aspect ratio, or app resizability might have display issues on Android 16, such as overlapping layouts.” That is a platform-level explanation, not a diagnosis of any particular X Fold6 app.
A layout designed only for a narrow phone can stretch when given extra width. A non-scrolling screen can leave controls beyond the visible area when the available dimensions change. An app that insists on one orientation can be kept inside a letterboxed region rather than being stretched to an incompatible shape. Black bars in this situation are a compatibility behavior; they do not, by themselves, show that the OLED panel is damaged.

Android’s current guidance says Android 16 can override some orientation, aspect-ratio and resizability restrictions on displays whose smallest width is at least 600dp. Vivo’s India listing identifies the X Fold6 as Android 17, but that fact does not establish that Vivo enables a particular override, exposes it to users, or applies it to every app. Do not assume an Android platform capability is a visible X Fold6 switch.
Use safe checks before changing display behavior
Update the app
- Open your normal app store and view the affected app’s installed version.
- Install an available update, then launch the app from a fresh start.
- Repeat the same cover, inner, portrait and landscape tests you recorded earlier.
An update may add foldable or tablet layout support, but no update can be promised to solve an app-specific incompatibility. If the problem began immediately after an update, note that version in your report rather than repeatedly reinstalling without evidence.

- Open the phone’s built-in system-update screen using the current labels on your regional OriginOS build.
- Install an available update only after the phone reports sufficient battery and storage, and follow Vivo’s on-screen restart instructions.
- After the restart, open the affected app and reproduce the same action on both displays.
Menu names can differ by region and release. Use the update controls supplied by the phone rather than a download from an unverified site. Record the new software version even if the visual result does not change.
Rule out a transient app state
Force-close the app through the phone’s standard app-management controls, reopen it, and repeat the test. If the app offers an in-app sign-out, profile reset or layout reset, use it only when you understand what data it affects. Do not clear storage or uninstall an app that contains unsynchronized drafts or local files unless you have a backup. A temporary restart can distinguish a one-time transition glitch from a repeatable layout problem, but it does not fix an app that was designed for a fixed phone aspect ratio.
Inspect the app’s own layout options
Look in the affected app for settings labelled tablet layout, large-screen layout, responsive layout, full screen, display size, orientation or similar. Some apps provide separate controls for landscape mode or for showing navigation panels on a wider screen. Apply one change at a time, close and reopen the app, and record the result. If the app’s own documentation says a feature is unsupported on foldables, retain that information for your support report.

Check for a per-app aspect-ratio or full-screen control
Vivo-hosted documentation includes a page titled “App aspect ratio settings” that describes an option capable of displaying an app in full-screen mode. The documentation available for that page does not establish that the option applies to every X Fold6 region or identify the current menu path on every OriginOS build. Therefore, do not rely on a copied path from another Vivo model or country.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Instead, use the phone’s Settings search for terms such as aspect ratio, full screen, app display or app compatibility, and inspect the affected app’s information screen for a display-specific option. The exact label, location and availability are software-dependent. If no such control appears, that is not evidence that you missed a required step.
Test the option as a reversible experiment
- Before changing anything, capture the app’s current appearance and note the existing selection.
- Change the full-screen or aspect-ratio choice for only the affected app, if your phone presents one.
- Close and relaunch the app, then repeat the same action on the inner display in each supported orientation.
- Check text, touch targets, menus, scrolling and overlays—not just whether the black bars disappeared.
- Restore the previous choice immediately if controls become stretched, hidden, inaccessible or harder to tap.
Forcing an app to use all available pixels can remove unused space while making a fixed layout worse. Treat the setting as a trade-off, not a guaranteed repair. Keep the original choice written down so you can reverse the experiment after an update or when contacting support.
Use a comparison grid to isolate the failure
A small table makes patterns visible and gives a developer reproducible evidence. Fill in the same action for every cell rather than relying on impressions.
| Test condition | What to record | What the result suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Cover display, portrait | Bars, cropping, stretching, rotation, crash or normal layout | Whether the app already fails in a phone-sized posture |
| Cover display, landscape | Same observations, if the app permits landscape | Whether orientation alone triggers the problem |
| Inner display, portrait | Whether content fills the panel and controls remain reachable | Whether the larger width exposes a layout limitation |
| Inner display, landscape | Same observations plus keyboard or navigation overlap | Whether the app handles the widest tested geometry |
| After app update | Repeat the identical action and note the installed version | Whether the developer’s release changed behavior |
| After phone update | Repeat the identical action and note the OriginOS/Android version | Whether the system release changed compatibility |
| After per-app display change | Compare usability, not only filled pixels | Whether forcing full screen improves or harms the layout |
Use “not applicable” when an app does not support an orientation, and describe a crash or missing control in plain language. This record is more useful than saying only that the app “looks bad.”

Choose the right escalation path
Contact the app developer when one app remains affected
After updating and reproducing the issue, report it through the app’s support channel. Include:
- Vivo X Fold6 model, purchase region and current OriginOS and Android versions.
- The app’s exact version and account or subscription tier when it changes available features.
- Whether the failure occurs on the cover display, inner display, or both.
- The posture and orientation, including whether the app was already open when you unfolded the phone.
- Numbered reproduction steps beginning from a fresh launch.
- A screenshot or screen recording that shows the bars, cropped buttons, stretched controls, restart or crash.
- Whether app and system updates, and any available per-app display option, changed the result.
Ask the developer to classify the issue as a foldable or large-screen compatibility problem rather than requesting a generic reinstall. Do not send passwords, payment details or private documents in a recording; crop or redact them while leaving the affected controls visible.
Contact Vivo when multiple apps or system screens fail
Vivo is the more appropriate next contact when unrelated apps show the same distortion, the launcher or Settings interface is affected, touch input is misaligned across the display, or the problem persists after a system update and restart. Give support the same model, region, software version, reproduction steps and visual evidence. Mention whether the cover display works normally and whether the fault follows a particular posture.
If a support representative requests a reset, ask what data will be erased and make a verified backup first. A factory reset should be a last diagnostic step for a repeatable, app-specific layout problem; resetting the phone cannot make an app’s fixed layout responsive.

“The app won’t fill the screen” or shows black bars
Compare it on the cover display and inner display, then check whether the app locks a particular orientation. If only that app is letterboxed, look for an app update or an available per-app aspect-ratio choice. Keep the letterboxed mode if forcing full screen makes controls unusable, and report the behavior to the developer.

“The app looks stretched”
Take a screenshot and inspect text, icons and images at the same zoom on both displays. A full-screen override can stretch a fixed layout; restore the prior per-app choice if the distortion began after changing it. If no setting was changed, report the inner-display dimensions and orientation that trigger the stretching.
“Buttons are cut off” or cannot be reached
Try the other orientation and look for scrolling within the page. Android notes that non-scrolling layouts can leave controls inaccessible when dimensions change. Do not assume reducing system text size will repair an app whose own container is fixed; record the exact screen and the missing control for the developer.
The app restarts when unfolding
Repeat the transition from a fresh launch and note whether it happens every time. Test opening the app after the phone is already unfolded. A restart can result from the app being recreated for a new configuration, so this evidence helps the developer distinguish lifecycle handling from a one-time crash.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The app crashes only on the inner display
Update both app and phone, then reproduce with a recording if possible. If another app works normally on the same display and posture, send the crash steps to the app developer. If several apps crash or the system interface also fails, escalate to Vivo.
What not to assume
- Black bars alone do not prove a damaged display.
- A larger inner screen does not guarantee that every app will become tablet-optimized.
- An Android capability documented for one release or device does not prove that the X Fold6 exposes the same user control.
- A settings path copied from another country, model or OriginOS version may be absent or named differently.
- Removing bars by force is not automatically better if it hides buttons, breaks touch targets or distorts content.
- A system reset is not a substitute for reporting a reproducible defect to the app developer.
