Start by identifying how your Arlo camera is meant to connect: directly to your router, or through an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station. Those use different setup processes. For a direct Wi-Fi camera, check the compatible network band, phone connection, password and signal range. If a camera that used to work is now offline, check its power and your internet service before repeating setup or resetting it.
The order matters: a camera that cannot be discovered during first-time setup is a different problem from one that has lost connection after working. Arlo Support’s direct-install guidance, updated September 2, 2026, and its offline-camera guidance, updated August 10, 2025, make that distinction central. Use the checks below to identify which situation you have, then follow the matching path.

First identify the connection path
A camera that connects directly to a Wi-Fi router is discovered through the direct-install process. A camera paired with a SmartHub or Base Station must sync through that hub instead; direct-to-router discovery steps will not resolve a hub-sync failure. Arlo Support separates these troubleshooting paths, and the appropriate setup method depends on the camera model.
Check the product’s model-specific setup instructions or the device entry in the Arlo Secure App before changing network settings. Arlo’s installation guidance also distinguishes older models that use QR-code setup from newer devices set up with Bluetooth. If the camera is meant to use a hub, follow Arlo’s hub sync troubleshooting rather than the Wi-Fi steps below. Disconnecting a camera from a SmartHub or Base Station can remove access to local recording storage on a local device, so don’t switch connection modes just to test whether direct Wi-Fi works.

Begin by answering two questions: Is this the first installation, or did the camera previously work? And is the camera supposed to join the router itself, or sync to a hub? These questions prevent a common detour: changing router settings for a camera whose problem is actually a hub sync, or repeating installation when a previously working camera has simply lost power or internet access.
| Connection path | What to troubleshoot | Useful first check |
|---|---|---|
| Direct to Wi-Fi router | Camera discovery, Wi-Fi band, credentials, range, or internet access | Confirm that the model supports direct Wi-Fi and that the phone is on the intended 2.4 GHz network during setup. |
| SmartHub or Base Station | Camera-to-hub sync rather than direct router discovery | Confirm that the camera is being set up through its intended hub connection path. |
The two routes are not interchangeable troubleshooting options. Direct connection focuses on whether the camera can discover and join the right Wi-Fi network. Hub setup focuses on whether the camera syncs with its intended SmartHub or Base Station. The hub may also matter to local recording storage, so changing the connection route can have consequences beyond getting the camera online.
For a new direct Wi-Fi setup, check band, phone and credentials
Use the supported band for your model
Arlo says most directly connected cameras require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. During setup, connect the phone to the same 2.4 GHz network the camera is meant to join. A network name may identify that band with “2,” “2.4” or “2G,” but names are not definitive; check the router’s settings or ask the router maker or internet service provider if you cannot tell which band the phone is using.
Arlo identifies Pro 5/5S and certain newer Essential models as exceptions that can use 5 GHz after they have first been installed on 2.4 GHz. That does not mean every Arlo model can be installed directly on 5 GHz. Check the instructions for the exact camera generation before choosing a band.
Use the 2.4 GHz network for the initial setup unless the exact model’s instructions say otherwise. A camera that supports 5 GHz after installation still has a 2.4 GHz initial-install requirement under Arlo’s guidance. Treat “this model can use 5 GHz” and “I can install it on 5 GHz from the start” as two different claims.
If your router shows one network name for both bands, you may not be able to tell from the phone’s Wi-Fi list which band it is using. In that case, inspect the router’s settings rather than guessing from the SSID. If you still cannot identify the band, contact the router maker or ISP. Avoid cycling through network names at random, because the important point is that the phone and camera use the intended same 2.4 GHz network during setup.
Enter the exact network name and password
Re-enter the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password carefully. Arlo notes that credentials are case-sensitive, so capitalization and special characters must match the router’s settings. If the router or Wi-Fi password has changed since setup, the camera may still have the old network information saved; use the network-change procedure below instead of repeatedly entering credentials for the previous network.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck both fields against the network you actually intend the camera to join. A familiar network name may be available on more than one band, or the phone may be connected to a different saved network. Re-entering the password correctly will not help if the selected network name is not the intended one. If the password was recently changed, update the saved network on the camera through the app rather than treating the old saved connection as a new installation.

Temporarily simplify band or mesh behavior
If a router combines its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands under one network name and camera discovery fails, Arlo suggests temporarily disabling the 5 GHz band. On a mesh system, its guidance is to temporarily turn off access points and connect through the main router. Arlo also advises disabling band steering before installation and re-enabling it after the camera is set up successfully.
These are troubleshooting steps, not instructions to leave a network permanently simplified. Change only the relevant setting you understand, then restore it after successful setup. If you are unsure how to disable or re-enable band steering, turn off 5 GHz, or manage mesh access points, consult the router maker or ISP. Avoid leaving temporary changes in place simply because the camera connected while they were active.
When setup fails under a combined network name, simplify one variable at a time. Confirm the intended 2.4 GHz network, temporarily adjust band or mesh settings as Arlo describes, and then retry discovery close to the main router. If the camera connects, restore the temporary settings as directed. This process helps distinguish a band-steering or mesh issue from incorrect credentials, poor reach, or an internet outage.

If a working camera has gone offline, isolate camera trouble from internet trouble
Check camera power first
For a camera with a removable battery, confirm that the battery is correctly installed and sufficiently charged. Arlo says low battery can contribute to intermittent streaming and Wi-Fi fluctuations. For other power arrangements, check that the camera is receiving power according to its model’s instructions.
Do this before changing the network or deleting the camera from the app. A low or poorly seated battery can resemble a wireless problem because the camera may stream intermittently or fluctuate in its connection. The power check is especially useful if the camera was working and then became unreliable, rather than failing to appear during its original installation.
See whether other devices can get online
Try accessing the internet on another device using the same Wi-Fi network. If that device also cannot get online, the fault is more likely to involve the router or internet service than the camera alone. Arlo recommends unplugging the router, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in. If service still does not return, contact your ISP.
This check separates local camera trouble from a broader connection outage. If other devices are offline too, repeating camera discovery or changing its saved password is unlikely to restore internet service. Restart the router as described and give the network a chance to recover; if other devices still cannot reach the internet, contact the ISP rather than proceeding directly to a camera reset.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If other devices can use the internet, the fault is less likely to be a full home internet outage, but that does not by itself prove that the camera is configured correctly. Continue by checking reach, recent network changes, and whether the camera’s connection path is direct or through a hub.

Check camera range and recent changes
If other devices have internet access, move the camera closer to the Wi-Fi router, SmartHub or Base Station, as appropriate for its connection path. Also consider whether the router, network password or camera location changed recently. A camera may need its saved network information updated after a router or credential change; a location change may instead have put it beyond reliable signal range.
For diagnosis, temporarily bring the camera closer to its intended connection point. If it connects there but not in its usual location, range is a more plausible contributor than a mistyped password. If the network name or password changed, use the app’s Change Network flow instead. Moving a hub-connected camera closer to the router does not change the fact that it is meant to sync through the hub; keep the intended connection path in view.
These checks distinguish three different problems that can look alike in the app: a band or credential mismatch, weak reach or mesh behavior, and an internet connection failure. Changing camera setup settings will not restore an ISP outage, and restarting the router will not correct a mistyped password.

| Setup reports no internet network was found | Internet availability, VPN, or intended network mismatch | Test another device’s internet access and follow the error-specific checks below. |
Understand “No internet network was found”
Arlo says this setup message can appear even when the camera connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with the correct password: the internet connection may be unavailable. Treat the message as a prompt to test internet access, not as proof that the password is wrong.
- Confirm that the phone and camera are using the intended Wi-Fi network during setup.
- Test internet access on another device connected to that network.
- Turn off a VPN on the phone temporarily while diagnosing the error.
- Restart the modem and router, then try setup again.
- If internet access remains unavailable, contact the ISP.
The key distinction is between joining Wi-Fi and reaching the internet. A camera may have the correct network password and still encounter this message if the network’s internet connection is unavailable. If the phone also cannot get online, focus on the modem, router, and ISP path first. If the phone has internet, check that it is using the same intended Wi-Fi network for setup and temporarily turn off its VPN while diagnosing.
After restarting the modem and router, test internet service again before retrying camera installation. If service has not recovered, contact the ISP; repeating setup while the internet connection is down will not resolve the underlying service problem.
Change the saved Wi-Fi network in the app
If the Wi-Fi name or password changed, or the camera needs to join a different network, use Arlo’s network-change flow. The labels can vary by app version and device, so follow the prompts shown for your camera.
- Make sure a wire-free camera has at least 30% battery before changing its network. Arlo’s instructions also require the device to be in Standby Mode.
- In the Arlo Secure App, open the camera’s device entry and select its Wi-Fi or network setting, then choose Change Network.
- Connect the phone to the target 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network before continuing.
- Enter the target network’s SSID and password exactly, including capitalization and special characters.
- Follow the app prompts to put the camera into pairing mode and complete discovery.
The 30% battery requirement applies to a wire-free camera before the network change; do not skip it if the app’s prompts require the camera to remain active during pairing. Standby Mode is also part of Arlo’s instructions. If the app labels differ, rely on the prompts for the particular device instead of assuming every Arlo model has an identical menu.

Before starting, have the target network name and password available and confirm which network the phone is using. That reduces the chance of entering credentials for the old network or moving through setup while the phone is attached to a different Wi-Fi network. Remember that the phone and camera should use the intended 2.4 GHz network during setup for models that require it.
If discovery still fails, return to the band, router and range checks rather than assuming the camera needs a reset. For a model that uses a SmartHub or Base Station, use the hub-specific process instead of trying to move it to direct Wi-Fi.
Reset only after the simpler checks fail
Arlo’s general offline guidance puts device removal, factory reset and reinstallation after the preceding troubleshooting checks. A reset can remove configuration, and it will not fix an unavailable internet connection, an incompatible setup band or poor signal reach.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you reach this stage, confirm the exact camera model and follow its model-specific reset instructions. Button presses and LED meanings differ, so don’t rely on a reset sequence or light interpretation intended for another model. After resetting, reinstall through the correct direct-Wi-Fi or hub setup path for that device.
Use reset as a recovery step, not as the first test. First establish that the camera has power, the network has internet, the camera is within reasonable reach of its intended router or hub, and the setup path matches the model. If the actual cause is an ISP outage, a reset can erase configuration without fixing the outage; if the cause is a 2.4 GHz mismatch, resetting does not make an unsupported band compatible.
Arlo’s general order is to remove the device from the app, factory reset it, and reinstall only after the other troubleshooting options have failed. Because reset procedures and light indications vary, do not infer that a particular LED means the same thing on every camera. Consult the support instructions for the exact model before pressing buttons or interpreting status lights.

A failed setup by itself is not a reason to buy a router. First establish that the existing router cannot provide a compatible 2.4 GHz network or is faulty. Check whether other devices can access the internet, whether the camera works closer to the router, and whether the problem is actually an ISP outage. Arlo’s first-line range guidance is to move the camera closer to its router or hub; the support guidance cited here does not establish an extender as a general fix.
Recommended Free Tools
Consider hardware replacement only after those checks indicate a genuine equipment limitation or fault. If the existing router provides compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and other devices connect, the cause may instead be the camera’s setup path, saved credentials, range, or internet service. If other devices also cannot reach the internet, resolve the router or ISP issue before buying equipment. A range extender or mesh node is not a guaranteed answer to a camera that cannot be discovered; first test by moving the camera closer to its intended connection point.

There is no need to buy a SmartHub or Base Station solely because a direct Wi-Fi setup failed. A hub is relevant when the camera model and intended setup use that connection path. Likewise, do not buy a new router simply because the app reports an installation problem. Diagnose compatibility, internet access, credentials, and range first; replacement hardware is appropriate only if those checks point to a real router limitation or failure.
Quick troubleshooting sequence
- Identify the path: establish whether the camera connects directly to Wi-Fi or syncs through a SmartHub or Base Station. Use the matching support process.
- Decide whether it is new or offline: for first installation, focus on discovery and network compatibility; for a previously working camera, first check power and internet.
- Check the band and phone connection: for direct setup, use the model-supported band and connect the phone to the same intended 2.4 GHz network unless the exact model instructions say otherwise.
- Confirm credentials: enter the correct SSID and case-sensitive password. If the network changed, use Change Network in the app.
- Test internet and reach: check another device, move the camera closer to its intended router or hub, and consider recent changes to the network or camera location.
- Use temporary router changes carefully: if combined bands or mesh behavior is involved, follow Arlo’s temporary settings guidance and restore settings after setup.
- Reset only as a last step: verify the exact model’s reset instructions and reinstall through the correct connection path.
This order avoids spending time on actions that cannot address the observed fault. A hub sync issue needs hub troubleshooting; a network-wide outage needs router or ISP attention; and a saved password change calls for updating the camera’s network information. If a step changes the result, use that evidence to guide the next one rather than making several permanent network changes at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Arlo camera connect to Wi-Fi?
Common checks include whether the model supports direct Wi-Fi, whether the phone is on the intended 2.4 GHz network, whether the SSID and case-sensitive password are correct, and whether the camera is within range. If the camera uses a SmartHub or Base Station, troubleshoot its sync path instead of direct Wi-Fi setup.
Can I connect an Arlo camera to 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Most directly connected Arlo cameras require 2.4 GHz. Arlo identifies Pro 5/5S and certain newer Essential models as able to use 5 GHz after initial installation on 2.4 GHz. Confirm the exact model’s instructions before trying 5 GHz.
What should I do if my Arlo camera says “No internet network was found”?
The camera may have joined 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with the correct password while the internet connection is unavailable. Check the phone and camera’s intended network, test another device’s internet access, temporarily turn off the phone’s VPN, restart the modem and router, and contact the ISP if service does not return.
How do I reconnect an Arlo camera after changing my Wi-Fi password?
In the Arlo Secure App, open the device’s Wi-Fi or network setting and choose Change Network. For a wire-free camera, Arlo says to have at least 30% battery and put it in Standby Mode. Connect the phone to the target 2.4 GHz network, enter the exact SSID and password, then follow the pairing and discovery prompts.
Should I factory reset an Arlo camera that is offline?
Not as a first step. Check power, internet service, range, and recent network changes first. Arlo’s general offline guidance places removal from the app, factory reset, and reinstallation after those checks. Reset button procedures and LED meanings vary by model, so use the exact model’s instructions.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Do I need to buy a router or Wi-Fi extender?
Not just because setup failed. First check that the existing router can provide compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, test internet access on another device, and move the camera closer to its intended router or hub. Arlo’s first-line guidance is to check range by moving the camera closer; it does not establish an extender as a general fix.
Why do direct Wi-Fi instructions not work for my Arlo camera?
Some cameras are intended to sync through an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station rather than connect directly to the router. Check the model’s setup instructions and use the correct path. Disconnecting from a hub may also remove access to local recording storage on a local device.
The Bottom Line
Match the troubleshooting path to the camera: direct Wi-Fi setup and SmartHub/Base Station sync are different processes. For direct setup, confirm the model’s band requirements, put the phone on the intended 2.4 GHz network, enter the exact credentials, and test close to the router. For a camera that went offline, check power and whether other devices have internet before changing settings. Update saved Wi-Fi through the app when credentials change, and reserve model-specific factory reset steps for after the basic checks fail.
