Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

A “success” or “accepted” status proves only that a particular step completed—not necessarily that the intended task or reply arrived. Start with the source event’s ID and timestamp, then check the execution trace and the actual destination.
Start with one identifiable event
Choose a single affected message or upstream event. Record enough detail to distinguish it from other activity before searching logs or changing configuration.

- Source message or event ID, if available.
- Observed timestamp and time zone.
- What the agent was expected to do.
- Intended recipient, task list, assignee, or conversation.
- Whether the symptom is a missing action, duplicate action, or action in the wrong place.
Search audit views using the identifiers available in your platform, such as origin, time, task ID, task-list ID, and assignee. Google Workspace task logs, for example, can expose origin type and URL, task and list identifiers, event type, and assignee. Their search has product-specific limits, including visibility issues for deleted messages in Trash.

For Gmail AI Inbox
First confirm that the message belongs to the feature’s supported input population. Google’s Gmail help describes AI Inbox as a beta feature that surfaces information from Primary-tab messages. Messages in spam or messages that are archived, deleted, muted, or snoozed are excluded. The feature does not support attachments, delegated inboxes, or encrypted mail. It can take time to populate initially, may need a refresh, and can appear empty when there has been little recent mail activity. Availability and behavior may change, so check Google’s current AI Inbox help for your account and region.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
For an API-driven workflow
Verify that the upstream system emitted the event, your handler recorded it, and the scheduling or trigger step completed. If the source never reached the workflow, inspecting the agent’s later tool calls will not explain the miss. Keep a stable source-event identity throughout handling and retries.
Follow the trigger into the execution trace
Find the run or thread associated with the source and inspect its status, timestamp, source ID, exact error text, and detailed execution history. Identify the last completed step and the actual tool calls and arguments; a headline status alone is not enough to establish what happened.

Interpret status in context
In the OpenAI Cookbook example for Workspace Agent API triggers, HTTP 202 Accepted means the request was accepted, not that the requested output appeared at its destination. OpenAI’s operational guidance recommends checking the destination and watching for non-202 responses or missing output. Microsoft’s Azure SRE Agent documentation gives a different but equally important warning: a scheduled run can show Success after work is handed to a thread, even if the thread later pauses or a tool call fails. These behaviors are platform-specific; do not treat either status as a universal definition across agent products.

Check whether the schedule or task is enabled and due, whether the source event was received, and whether the relevant trigger exists and is runnable. If a thread exists, inspect its plan and calls to see where progress stopped. For intermittent errors in Google Cloud Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, capture the precise status and message, filter the agent logs, and compare quota or system-limit usage and regional service health—particularly if the problem began without a local configuration change.

Diagnose a missed task or reply
Once you know whether an execution started, work through the path from input to action. An agent can receive a message but still fail to produce the expected result because of missing data, permissions, a disconnected connector, an incomplete plan, or an action that never ran.
- Validate the input. Confirm the source message is eligible and that required fields, documents, and shared data were supplied. Salesforce Agentforce Operations documentation identifies missing data access, incomplete source inputs, and vague or overly complex instructions as possible causes of poor output or plans.
- Check identity and permissions. Verify that the connector is authorized and connected, that the agent identity can read the source, and that it can write to the intended destination or resource.
- Check the plan and last completed step. Use the detailed thread or trace to determine whether the agent reached the intended action. A run that stopped before a tool call is different from a tool call that ran and failed.
- Read the exact error. Preserve the full status and message rather than paraphrasing it. For Google Cloud Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, use filtered agent logs and check quotas, system limits, and regional service health when appropriate.
Prevent duplicate work without hiding real events
Repeated delivery of one source event
For event-driven triggers, use a durable idempotency key tied to the source event. Reuse that key when retrying the same event so the retry does not enqueue repeat work; use a new key for a different event. The OpenAI Cookbook’s Workspace Agent API example documents this retry pattern. Keep source-event IDs in the operational record so operators can distinguish a retry from genuinely new work.

Duplicate Salesforce email activity
First query the relevant Task records and establish what persisted. Salesforce documents checking for deleted records with blank relationship IDs as one way to verify whether duplicate-cleanup logic ran but an extra copy remained. Then review whether Shared Activities is disabled when multiple contacts are related, and whether custom Task triggers, Process Builder processes, or Flows interfere with standard Task cleanup. Shared Activities behavior depends on the organization’s configuration; review its requirements and consequences before enabling it or changing automation.

Find why a task or reply went to the wrong destination
Compare the intended destination with the values actually used during execution. Inspect the tool arguments and, where available, the recipient field, task-list ID, assignee, and thread or conversation ID. Check the destination and approval settings as well as the agent’s permissions.

- Confirm that the required send or write operation is enabled.
- Check whether a recipient value is locked or otherwise different from the intended recipient.
- Verify that the connector is connected and its mailbox authorization has not expired.
- Confirm that the agent identity can access the target mailbox, list, or resource.
- Check whether the agent reached the send or write step and whether review-mode approval is still pending.
Microsoft’s Azure SRE Agent Outlook-connector examples identify these as possible causes of apparently successful but incomplete email workflows. OpenAI’s operational checklist recommends making the destination, output format, and approval behavior explicit. Treat these as checks for the documented products, not a guarantee that every platform exposes the same controls.
Verify a fix with a controlled replay
- Make one documented configuration change at a time and record what changed.
- Replay one clearly identified source event, or use a distinct test event if replaying could repeat a sensitive write.
- Confirm in the actual destination that exactly one intended task or reply exists and that it is attached to the right recipient, list, or thread.
- Check that retrying the same event does not create a second action.
- Record the before-and-after run IDs and configuration change so the outcome can be audited.
Keep sensitive writes behind review until the workflow has been checked with its owner.
What to compare when choosing or auditing an agent platform
These are useful evaluation criteria, not a claim that every product exposes every field. Availability varies by platform and configuration.
