If your Polk subwoofer is not working, start by finding its exact model number and connection type. A wired powered subwoofer, such as a PSW or HTS model, connects to a receiver; a wireless subwoofer supplied with a sound bar, such as React, MagniFi Mini AX, or Signa S4, follows a different pairing and status-light procedure. Do not use one family’s reset, LED, or connector instructions on another.
Identify the model and symptom first
Check the label on the subwoofer and note the full model number. Then determine whether it connects to a receiver by cable or is the wireless subwoofer supplied with a Polk sound bar. Find the manual for that exact model before trying a reset, fuse check, or pairing procedure; instructions vary across Polk product families.

Record what you observe: no power, no sound despite power, intermittent sound, hum, or a status light that is steady or flashing. Also note whether the problem began suddenly or the subwoofer has never played. These details help distinguish a power issue from a signal, settings, or pairing problem.

Why is there no sound from my Polk subwoofer?
For a wireless sound-bar subwoofer
First confirm that the sound bar is on and playing audio, and that the subwoofer’s power cable is firmly connected. The React and MagniFi Mini AX guides also direct owners to check bass settings and the status lights on the sound bar and subwoofer. Use the relevant guide because the indicators and controls are not interchangeable.

For React, the Quick Start Guide says the subwoofer light should be solid green. If it flashes green, the guide says: “If the light on the back of the subwoofer is flashing green, you will need to reconnect the subwoofer to the sound bar using the instructions in ‘Connect Your Subwoofer’.” Follow that React-specific procedure rather than trying a wired-subwoofer fix. Polk React Subwoofer Quick Start Guide
For MagniFi Mini AX, check the sound bar’s SUB status light and the subwoofer status light, then use the guide’s documented CONNECT-button procedure if reconnection is needed. For Signa S4, follow its own manual’s instructions to wirelessly connect the sound bar and subwoofer again if the subwoofer produces no audio. Do not assume these products share one pairing sequence.
For a wired receiver setup
Trace the signal path from the receiver to the subwoofer. On setups using a receiver’s Sub Out, the cable must connect to the Polk subwoofer’s compatible line-level or LFE input. Then check the receiver’s speaker or bass-management setup to confirm that a subwoofer is enabled. The PSW-111 manual specifically asks: “If hookup is ‘Sub Out’ to right LINE IN, is your receiver set to ‘Subwoofer—yes’”. Polk PSW-111 Owner’s Manual

If the receiver and subwoofer use speaker-level connections, inspect those wires and verify polarity at both ends. Check that the cable is fully seated and undamaged; reseat it or try a known-good compatible cable if available. Do not buy an RCA cable unless your receiver and subwoofer have compatible Sub Out and line/LFE connections. The HTS 12, for example, lists LFE and RCA line-level inputs. An RCA cable cannot fix a wireless pairing problem, a disabled receiver subwoofer setting, or an internal amplifier or driver fault. Polk HTS 12 product information
Why is my Polk subwoofer light red, flashing, or on standby?
A light color alone does not establish that the subwoofer has failed. Indicator meanings differ by model. Consult the exact product guide for the meaning of its light and the action associated with it; React’s documented flashing-green instruction, for example, is specific to React.
Some PSW series models use signal sensing to switch on when an audio signal is detected and return to standby when one is absent. A subwoofer that appears to remain in standby may therefore be receiving no usable signal, or the source may not be configured to send bass to it. Check the receiver setting and signal connections before concluding that a light indicates a hardware fault. The PSW-10/12 manual covers this series-specific operation. Polk PSW-10/12 Owner’s Manual

How do I reconnect or power-cycle a Polk wireless subwoofer?
Use only the procedure documented for your model. React and MagniFi Mini AX guides specify unplugging the subwoofer’s power for 30 seconds and reconnecting it. If the connection still needs attention, React’s guide directs owners with a flashing green light to its reconnect instructions; MagniFi Mini AX has its own CONNECT-button sequence. Signa S4 has a separate wireless reconnection procedure in its web manual.
- Identify whether the subwoofer is React, MagniFi Mini AX, Signa S4, or another model.
- Confirm the sound bar is powered on and playing audio, and check that the subwoofer power cable is secure.
- For React or MagniFi Mini AX, follow that model’s guide for the documented 30-second power cycle.
- If reconnection is still required, follow the exact model’s pairing steps and indicator guidance; do not substitute another Polk family’s CONNECT or reset instructions.
See the React Quick Start Guide, MagniFi Mini AX guide, or Signa S4 web manual for the relevant procedure.

Make sure the power cable is seated at the subwoofer and the outlet. If the unit remains unresponsive, consult its exact manual for model-specific power and fuse information. Do not apply fuse instructions from one Polk series to another or open the cabinet based on generic advice: internal service steps are not established across the product range.

Why is my Polk subwoofer humming?
On the legacy PSW 303/404/505 series, Polk’s manual says: “Most hum problems are caused by ‘ground loops.’” The manual describes disconnecting TV or VCR coaxial cable as an isolation check and also identifies faulty home wiring and light dimmers as possible noise sources. That coax check is legacy guidance for the named PSW series, not a universal fix for modern installations. If faulty AC wiring is suspected, the manual advises consulting a licensed electrician. Is my Polk subwoofer blown?
No sound by itself does not prove that a driver or amplifier has failed. First eliminate external causes that fit your setup: confirm playback and power for a sound-bar system, or check the receiver’s subwoofer setting and wired signal path for a receiver system. A persistent fault after those checks may require service; avoid opening or attempting internal repairs unless the model’s documentation and your qualifications support that work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen to contact Polk support or arrange service
If the exact-model troubleshooting steps do not resolve the fault, use Polk’s support page to locate product FAQs and manuals, check warranty information, or search for an authorized service center. Polk says authorized service centers repair products both in and out of warranty. Check current warranty terms and the appropriate support route for your specific model before arranging repair.
