If your Mac cannot send diagnostic logs to Apple, first identify which Apple workflow you are using. Feedback Assistant reports, automatic Mac analytics, and a System Diagnostics report made in Activity Monitor are separate processes with different eligibility rules, prerequisites, and proof of delivery.
Check the route, confirm the required account or internet connection, complete the consent screen, and verify the destination status. If the upload still fails, save a local System Diagnostics report and give Apple Support the exact error and workflow details. A local log or a SubmitDiagInfo entry can be useful evidence, but neither by itself proves that a separate Feedback Assistant report reached Apple.

Identify what you are trying to send
The phrase “diagnostic logs” can describe three different actions on a Mac. Troubleshooting is faster when you treat them separately.

If you are not an Apple Developer and are not enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program or AppleSeed for IT, Feedback Assistant is not the general consumer submission route. Use Apple’s Product Feedback website for product comments instead. Do not keep retrying a Feedback Assistant sign-in when the account is not eligible.

When Feedback Assistant will not submit a report
1. Confirm eligibility and the intended account
Feedback Assistant on Mac is intended for Apple Developers and participants in the current Apple Beta Software Program or AppleSeed for IT. Sign in with the account associated with that eligibility. If the app does not offer the expected access, determine whether you are outside one of those programs before treating the behavior as an upload failure.
For a person outside those programs, the appropriate path is Apple Product Feedback. That route is for sending product comments; it is not the same as filing an enrolled tester or developer report with Feedback Assistant.
2. Inspect the report before trying to send it again
Open the report in Feedback Assistant and check the selected topic and team. Read every required question and answer the fields marked as incomplete. Apple’s report flow can decide which diagnostic files to collect based on those answers, so changing an answer can change the requested attachments.

Open the Attachments area and confirm that each item you intend to provide is present. Attachments may include device diagnostics, screenshots, or files you selected yourself. If one item is clearly incomplete or invalid, remove and add that item again rather than deleting the entire report. Keep a copy of any important file outside the app so you can recover if the draft becomes unusable.
A report that remains in Drafts has not been submitted. Draft status is local workflow state, not confirmation that Apple has received the report.

3. Check the Device Diagnostics requirement
When you add Device Diagnostics, Apple requires the selected device to be online and signed in to an Apple Account. Both conditions apply to the device being selected, not merely to the Mac on which you are filling out the form. If the device is powered off, offline, or signed out, the diagnostic option may be unavailable.
Bring the device online, sign in to the Apple Account that the workflow expects, and return to the attachment picker. If the device still does not appear, continue completing the report and add the device later when it becomes available. Apple also permits collecting diagnostics manually, which is useful when the automatic device selection cannot be completed.

Before sending, Feedback Assistant displays information about sending information to Apple. Read that notice and select Accept. A report that has not completed this consent step should not be described as sent, even if its text and attachments are already complete.
After accepting, submit the report and check its location in the app. The practical confirmation is that it is no longer in Drafts and is shown under Submitted. If it returns to Drafts, record the exact message and the point at which the transition failed before making another attempt.
5. Treat attachments and submission as separate checks
A report can be complete as a form while a diagnostic attachment is still unavailable. Conversely, an attachment can exist locally while the report itself has not been submitted. Check both states: the attachment list for the file and the report list for Drafts or Submitted.

Do not infer successful delivery from a file appearing in the Attachments area, from a progress animation, or from a local copy of a diagnostic archive. Those observations establish only that the file was prepared on the Mac.

If Device Diagnostics is unavailable
Device Diagnostics depends on the selected device being online and signed in to an Apple Account. Use this sequence when the picker is empty or the device cannot be selected:
- Wake and connect the device to the internet.
- Verify that the device is signed in to the required Apple Account.
- Return to Feedback Assistant and reopen the Device Diagnostics attachment control.
- If the device remains absent, continue filling in the report instead of abandoning it.
- Add the device later, or create a manual diagnostic report on the Mac and keep it available for Apple Support.
This fallback preserves the report’s useful context without claiming that the automatic Device Diagnostics collection succeeded. If the report concerns another Apple device, note which device was unavailable and whether it was online and signed in when you tried.
Create a local System Diagnostics report in Activity Monitor
Activity Monitor can assemble a System Diagnostics report from different logs on the Mac. This is the most useful fallback when Feedback Assistant cannot collect an attachment or when Apple Support asks for a report you can save yourself.
- Open Activity Monitor.
- Open the System diagnostics options menu.
- Choose System Diagnostics.
- Wait while macOS gathers the report from the available logs.
- Save the resulting report to a location you can find again, and preserve the original file before compressing, renaming, or sharing it.
Apple says the saved report can be sent to Apple Support. Use it as a local artifact for support escalation or for attaching through a route that explicitly accepts files. Creating or saving this report does not mean that Feedback Assistant sent it, and it does not change a report’s Drafts or Submitted status.

Record the time you generated the report and the symptom it is meant to document. A support agent can then relate the archive to the error message and the attempted submission route. Avoid repeatedly generating large reports when one clearly timed copy is enough; keep the copy that corresponds to the failure you are describing.

Console can show local log activity, but the steps and interpretation depend on whether you are checking analytics transmission or investigating another failure.
Open the Mac’s log stream
- Open Console.
- In the Devices section, select the Mac.
- Click Start to begin viewing log messages.
- If macOS asks for credentials, provide an administrator name and password when you are authorized to do so.
Use the time of the failed submission to narrow your inspection. Save relevant local evidence privately rather than copying an entire log stream into a public forum.
Check the Mac Analytics Data log
For automatic analytics, open Mac Analytics Data in Console and look at the Process column. A row containing SubmitDiagInfo indicates when analytics information was sent to Apple.
That marker answers a narrow question: whether an analytics submission was recorded locally. It does not prove that a Feedback Assistant report, an attached device diagnostic, or a System Diagnostics archive was delivered. Keep the workflow names distinct when you report the result to Apple Support.
Check the internet connection without guessing at a universal fix
Apple states that analytics information uses the Mac’s internet connection. If the Mac is offline, macOS waits and sends the analytics information the next time the Mac connects. Therefore, confirm that the Mac has working internet access and retry the analytics workflow while it is online.
There is no single Apple-documented router, DNS, firewall, or VPN change that universally fixes a Feedback Assistant upload error. Do not present one of those changes as an Apple-verified cure. If you are on a managed network, ask the administrator whether the connection is intentionally restricting Apple services, and record that fact for support rather than changing security controls blindly.
For Feedback Assistant, separate network testing from report validation. A working browser connection does not by itself prove that a report has been accepted, because eligibility, required answers, attachment collection, and consent are separate gates. Conversely, a complete report can remain unsent if the connection fails at the submission stage.
Review analytics consent and privacy before sharing logs
Mac analytics sharing is consent-based. Apple says the information can include crash, freeze, and kernel-panic details; event and usage information; and hardware and software specifications. Review the Analytics & Improvements controls in System Settings if you need to confirm or change your choice.
Analytics information is not kept indefinitely for this purpose: Apple says a Mac keeps it for one month after generation and then deletes it. That retention detail applies to the analytics information workflow, not to every file you save manually in Activity Monitor or every report draft in Feedback Assistant.
Diagnostic archives can contain identifying device and software details. Do not post them publicly just to demonstrate that an upload failed. Store them in a restricted location, share them only through an Apple-provided or support-approved channel, and remove unrelated personal files before attaching anything you were not asked to provide.
Interpret common symptoms correctly

Escalate with a precise record of the failure
If the problem continues after the workflow-specific checks, contact Apple Support or use the appropriate Apple feedback route. Give the recipient enough context to distinguish an account problem, an attachment problem, and a network or service problem.

- Whether the Mac was online during the attempt.
- The route you used: Feedback Assistant, Mac analytics, or Activity Monitor System Diagnostics.
- Your eligibility context for Feedback Assistant, without sharing passwords or other secrets.
- Whether the selected diagnostic device was online and signed in to an Apple Account.
- Whether the report remains in Drafts or appears under Submitted.
- Whether you accepted the information-sending notice.
- The approximate time of the attempt and whether Console showed a
SubmitDiagInfoentry. - Whether you saved a local System Diagnostics report and where it can be attached through a private support channel.
This record lets support investigate the actual failure boundary. It also prevents a local analytics marker, a saved archive, or a completed draft from being mistaken for confirmation that Apple received the report you intended to send.
