First determine whether the transfer is failed or merely delayed. A failed transfer did not complete and normally leaves USDC in the source wallet; a delayed transfer has started and is still being processed. Copy the transaction hash into the relevant block explorer, verify confirmations, network selection, token support, balances and gas, then escalate with complete transaction details if the route-specific waiting threshold is exceeded.
Start by classifying the status
The action that fixes a failed settlement is different from the action that fixes a delayed one. Do not press retry repeatedly until you know which state you have and what the displayed error says.

What “failed” means
Circle defines a failed transfer as one that did not complete and left the USDC on the source wallet. The blockchain attempt may have been rejected, reverted or never submitted successfully. Because the funds remain at the source, the next step is to identify the reason for failure and correct the underlying condition before submitting another attempt.
What “delayed” means
A delayed transfer has started, but the bridge or network is still completing it. Circle’s Help Center describes it this way: “If your transaction is delayed, the bridge process has started, but your transfer is still being completed on the network.” A delay does not by itself mean the funds have disappeared. Circle also states, “Your funds are not lost. Most delayed transactions will complete automatically.”

Read the displayed error before retrying
Capture the exact error text, including any code, before changing settings or submitting a second transaction. A message about insufficient gas calls for a different fix than a message about an unsupported network, a rejected signature or a bridge-capacity limit. Retrying without reading the error can create duplicate attempts, additional fees or confusion about which hash support should investigate.
The six-step diagnostic sequence
- Record the status and error. Note whether the interface says failed, delayed, pending, complete or something similar. Save the time shown by the wallet or bridge and copy the transaction hash if one exists.
- Open the hash in a block explorer. Paste the hash into an explorer for the source or destination network. Check the transaction state, block inclusion and confirmation count. Coinbase gives the same explorer-based instruction for pending transfers. The explorer, rather than a stale wallet screen, is the authoritative first diagnostic.
- Check whether confirmations are increasing. A growing confirmation count indicates that the network is advancing the transaction. If the count is unchanged, look for congestion, an RPC or node problem, a fee issue or a transaction that was never accepted.
- Verify funds and gas. Confirm that the source wallet still has enough USDC for the amount and enough of that network’s native token to pay gas. A wallet can show a healthy USDC balance while still being unable to submit or complete a transaction because its gas balance is too low.
- Confirm the selected networks and token support. Check both the source and destination network in the bridge and in the wallet. Make sure the destination supports the particular USDC representation being sent and that the connected wallet is actually on the network shown by the interface.
- Escalate only with evidence. Use the route’s documented support threshold, or contact support sooner when the same corrected attempt fails repeatedly. Provide the hash and the complete context listed in the escalation section below.
How to inspect a transaction on-chain
Find the right transaction hash
The hash is the unique identifier produced when a transaction is submitted. Copy it directly from the bridge or wallet rather than retyping it. If no hash is displayed, the transaction may not have been broadcast; check the activity view and the wallet’s pending queue, then ask the provider whether a submission was created.
Use the network-specific explorer
Open the explorer associated with the source network for a send-side check, or the destination network for a receive-side check. A hash from one chain will not necessarily resolve in an explorer for another chain. Confirm that the address, token contract or asset label and amount shown by the explorer match the intended transfer.
Recommended Free Tools
Interpret the main states
- Pending or processing: the network or bridge has not reached the required completion stage. Watch whether confirmations increase.
- Confirmed: the transaction is included and has reached the explorer’s confirmation state. If the wallet still shows no USDC, troubleshoot display and network selection rather than submitting another transfer.
- Failed or reverted: the chain rejected or rolled back the transaction. Read the explorer’s failure reason and the original interface error before correcting the attempt.
- No matching transaction: the hash may belong to another network, may be copied incorrectly or may never have been broadcast. Verify the network and obtain the provider’s submission record.
Confirmation counts are useful, but they do not override a route’s finality rules. A bridge can wait for additional confirmations or another processing stage after the source transaction is confirmed.
Check balances, gas and network configuration
Confirm the stablecoin balance
Compare the amount being sent with the spendable USDC balance on the source network. Account for any amount reserved by another pending transaction or held by the bridge interface. A failed attempt that left the USDC in the source wallet can be retried after the cause is corrected, but verify the available amount again immediately before signing.
Keep native gas on the correct chain
USDC pays for the transfer amount; it does not normally pay the network’s transaction fee. The wallet needs the native token used for gas on the source chain, and some destination-side actions may also require native gas. Gas spikes can make a previously adequate balance insufficient. Check the native-token balance on the exact network selected in the wallet, not merely the balance on another chain.

Match the bridge and wallet networks
Set the bridge’s source network to the chain holding the USDC and its destination network to the chain where the funds should arrive. Then switch the wallet to the same source chain before signing. After the bridge completes, switch to the destination chain to inspect the receipt. A wallet connected to the wrong network can make a successful settlement appear missing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck token support and representation
Bridges may support only particular USDC representations on particular routes. Confirm that the destination route accepts the asset you selected and that the wallet can display that token. If the explorer shows a completed transfer to the correct address but the wallet does not list the asset, the problem is usually presentation or token configuration rather than settlement.
When the destination transaction is complete but the coins are invisible
A confirmed destination transaction does not guarantee that every wallet interface will display the token automatically. Follow these checks in order:
- Switch the wallet to the destination network shown by the completed transaction.
- Refresh the wallet activity and balance views. If the wallet is a browser extension or mobile app, close and restart it.
- Compare the destination address in the explorer with the address currently selected in the wallet. A different account can make the balance look empty.
- Use the wallet’s manual token-add function if it requires the USDC token contract or asset entry to be enabled before displaying a balance.
- Recheck the explorer after the wallet refresh. If the token balance is present at the address, do not send another transfer merely because the interface was stale.
This display procedure does not recover a transfer sent to the wrong address. Blockchain transactions are final once confirmed and cannot be canceled, reversed or changed, according to Circle’s Help Center. A wrong-address transfer is generally unrecoverable unless the address owner voluntarily returns it.
Why a settlement can take longer than expected
Network congestion
When many transactions compete for block space, inclusion and confirmation can slow down. The explorer will usually show confirmations progressing more slowly than normal. Continue monitoring when the count is increasing, and avoid creating competing retries that add fee pressure or make the activity history harder to interpret.
Gas-price spikes
A sudden rise in gas prices can leave a submitted transaction waiting longer, or can prevent a new attempt when the wallet’s native-token balance is too small. Check both the current fee estimate shown by the wallet and the native balance on the source network before retrying a failed transaction.

Node or RPC outages
Wallets and bridges depend on nodes and RPC endpoints to submit transactions and read chain state. An outage can leave the interface showing an old status even while the chain is healthy, or can prevent a new transaction from being broadcast. Compare the wallet display with the explorer and restart or reconnect the wallet after the provider reports service restoration.
Temporary service interruptions
A bridge or wallet provider may temporarily pause processing during maintenance, an incident or a safety review. If the source transaction is confirmed but the destination step has not begun, the bridge’s own status and support channel can explain the interruption. Keep the original hash; do not assume that a second submission will bypass the pause.
Bridge capacity limits
Bridges can limit throughput on a route. A capacity constraint can delay a transfer even when the source transaction is confirmed and the wallet has adequate gas. This is a processing delay, not proof that the USDC has been lost. Continue checking confirmations and the bridge status until the route’s support threshold is reached.
Published completion times and support thresholds
Circle’s USDC Bridge table in its 2026 support documentation gives the following typical figures. They are route- and product-specific approximations, not guarantees for every transaction, and can change as network conditions or bridge operations change.
| Route or product | Typical completion | When Circle recommends support |
|---|---|---|
| Arbitrum standard | Approximately 15–19 minutes | At about 20 minutes |
| Base standard | Approximately 15–19 minutes | At about 20 minutes |
| Codex standard | Approximately 15–19 minutes | At about 20 minutes |
| Ethereum standard | Approximately 15–19 minutes | At about 20 minutes |
| Arbitrum Fast Transfer | Approximately 8 seconds | Use the route’s support process if the fast transfer remains incomplete; the table does not give a separate minute threshold |
| Base Fast Transfer | Approximately 8 seconds | Use the route’s support process if the fast transfer remains incomplete; the table does not give a separate minute threshold |
| Avalanche standard | Approximately 8 seconds | Use the route’s support process if the transfer remains incomplete; the table does not give a separate minute threshold |
Use the estimate that matches the actual source, destination and product path. An 8-second figure for a fast route should not be used to judge a standard route, and a standard-route 20-minute support point should not be treated as a universal promise for every stablecoin bridge.
What to do with a failed transfer
Correct the cause before submitting again
Start with the explorer’s failure reason and the interface error. If the source wallet still holds the USDC, correct the relevant condition: add native gas, select the supported network, reconnect the intended account or use the supported token representation. Recheck the available balance and recipient address before signing a new transaction.

Do not confuse a failed attempt with a delayed one
A failed status means the transfer did not complete and the USDC remained on the source wallet. A delayed status means processing began. Retrying a delayed transfer can create a second transfer while the first is still moving. Always verify the original hash and confirmations first.

Every new on-chain submission can consume gas. If the first transaction is confirmed, sending another transaction will not accelerate finality and may result in two completed transfers. Keep a record of each hash and amount so you can distinguish a corrected retry from an original delayed settlement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do with a delayed transfer
Monitor the original hash
Leave the original transaction in place while confirmations increase. Circle says most delayed transactions complete automatically. The absence of a wallet balance is not enough reason to retry when the explorer shows active processing.
Check the route’s expected window
Compare elapsed time with the route-specific figure in the table. Measure from the transaction submission time shown by the provider or explorer, and account for the fact that the figures are approximate. If the transfer is still within the normal window and confirmations are progressing, continued monitoring is usually more appropriate than a second submission.
Escalate after the threshold or repeated failures
When the documented threshold has passed, or when corrected attempts repeatedly fail, contact the bridge or wallet provider. Include enough information for support to locate both the source event and any destination-side processing instead of reporting only that the balance is missing.
Prepare an effective support request
Send one complete report rather than a sequence of partial messages. Include:
Best Value
- Transaction hash or hashes, copied exactly.
- Wallet address involved, with the source and destination addresses clearly labeled.
- Provider name and wallet or bridge version.
- Source and destination networks, including which one was selected when the transaction was signed.
- Date and time of submission, including the time zone if known.
- USDC amount and whether the amount is still visible on the source wallet.
- Browser, operating system and client type, such as browser extension, mobile application or web interface.
- The exact displayed error, current status and latest confirmation count.
- Links or screenshots from the relevant source and destination explorers, provided without exposing seed phrases or private keys.
Never send a recovery phrase, private key or wallet password to support. A legitimate investigation needs the public hash and address, not secret credentials.
Scenario playbooks
The bridge says pending and the hash has no confirmations
Verify that the hash belongs to the selected source network and that the source wallet actually signed the transaction. Check native gas and the wallet’s pending queue. If no transaction appears on the correct explorer, ask the provider whether the request was broadcast; do not assume that a visible bridge order equals an on-chain submission.
The hash is confirmed, but the destination is empty
Open the destination explorer, verify the recipient address and token balance, switch the wallet to that network, refresh or restart it and manually add the token if required. A completed transfer hidden by the wallet interface does not need another transfer.

Keep monitoring the original hash. Check for congestion, gas spikes, a node or RPC outage, a temporary bridge interruption or a route capacity limit. Compare elapsed time with the route’s documented expectation and escalate once the threshold is exceeded.
The transfer failed and USDC remains on the source wallet
Read the failure reason, correct the balance, gas, network or token-support issue, then submit one carefully checked retry. Preserve the failed hash in case support needs to distinguish it from the replacement transaction.
The transfer reached the wrong address
Confirmed blockchain transactions cannot be canceled, reversed or changed. Contacting a provider may document the incident, but recovery generally depends on the owner of the receiving address and is not guaranteed.
Checks to perform before any retry
- The original hash has been checked in the correct explorer.
- The status is confirmed as failed, not merely delayed.
- The source wallet still holds enough USDC for the intended amount.
- The wallet has enough native gas on the selected source network.
- The source and destination networks match the route you intend to use.
- The destination supports the selected USDC representation.
- The recipient address has been checked character by character or through the wallet’s address book.
- The expected completion time and support threshold for the route are understood.
How to compare settlement routes when choosing one
When deciding between bridge or settlement options, compare the complete operating conditions rather than the headline speed. Record the source and destination networks, whether the route is standard or fast, the typical completion time, required confirmation or finality stages, gas and fee requirements, the support-escalation threshold and whether the destination wallet displays the token automatically. A fast estimate is useful only when the route, product and wallet conditions match the estimate.

A route can complete on-chain while the destination token remains hidden until the wallet is switched to the correct network or the token is manually enabled. Treat that as a visibility check, not as evidence that the bridge should be run again.
The practical decision rule
Use the hash and explorer first, then decide. If the explorer shows a confirmed transaction, troubleshoot the destination network, address and token display. If it shows active confirmations, wait while checking the route’s timing and infrastructure conditions. If it shows failure and the USDC remains at the source, fix the reported cause before one deliberate retry. If the route exceeds its documented threshold or corrected attempts continue to fail, send support the hash, wallet, networks, timing, amount, environment and error details together.
