Dry and clean the charging contacts, reconnect the official charger, and look for a solid-white battery indicator and the charging-detection tone. If the toothbrush still does not respond, check travel mode, perform a normal reset, then perform the battery reset with the handle off the charger. Dyson’s support sequence treats a continuing lack of battery response after those checks as battery failure; the CameraJet uses a swappable battery that can be replaced.
Identify which “won’t turn on” problem you have
A completely dark handle is different from a toothbrush that charges but will not run, or one that runs but does not recognize a brush head. Matching the symptom to the correct remedy prevents unnecessary disassembly.

- No LEDs, no tone and no apparent charging: troubleshoot the cable, dock, power adapter and contacts first.
- The handle has power but does not operate: travel mode can disable most functions until it is switched off.
- Controls remain unresponsive: use the normal Power-button reset, followed by the battery reset if needed.
- A battery indicator continuously blinks red: Dyson treats this as a possible critical fault. Complete the reset procedure and contact Dyson if the red fault remains.
- The motor works but a brush head is not detected: inspect brush-head compatibility and fit. That is a different issue from a dead handle.
The instructions below apply to the Dyson CameraJet toothbrush. Other Dyson products can use different controls and charging systems.

Follow the least invasive checks first. A cable or contact problem is reversible and does not require opening the battery compartment; a battery replacement is only appropriate after charging and reset checks fail.

1. Check the complete charging path
Use the correct CameraJet charging hardware
The CameraJet is designed for Dyson’s USB-C to Pogo-pin cable or its refill dock, connected to a listed or certified USB-C power adapter. A generic cable that does not provide the Pogo-pin connection cannot be assumed to charge the toothbrush, even if its plug appears to fit another device.
Disconnect the cable or dock before inspecting it. Check the Pogo-pin contacts on the charging accessory and the matching contacts on the handle for moisture, dust or dirt. The contacts must be clean and dry for charging detection. Do not continue charging with a visibly wet or damaged battery compartment.
Confirm that charging is detected
When the CameraJet recognizes the charging connection, Dyson says the battery indicator becomes solid white and a tone sounds. This is the useful dividing line in the diagnosis: a solid-white indicator and tone show that the charging path is being detected; their absence means you should keep checking the power path before blaming the battery.
Reconnect methodically
- Unplug the USB-C adapter from power and disconnect the toothbrush cable or dock.
- Make sure every contact is dry and free of visible dirt.
- Reconnect the charger firmly at the adapter and at the CameraJet connection.
- Watch for the solid-white battery indicator and listen for the charging-detection tone.
- If there is still no response, try another listed or certified USB-C power adapter.
- If available, test the alternate charging route: the refill dock instead of the cable, or the cable instead of the dock.
Testing an alternate adapter and an alternate CameraJet charging accessory separates a power-source problem from a handle problem. If one route produces the white indicator and tone while the other does not, use the working route and replace or service the failed accessory rather than opening the toothbrush.
2. Make sure travel mode is not enabled
Dyson states that travel mode disables most functions. The result can look like a dead toothbrush even when the battery and motor are not the underlying problem.

- Hold the Power button for two seconds.
- Release the button when the LEDs light.
- Try the normal controls again.
Travel mode is worth checking before either reset because it is a deliberate operating state, not a charging fault. If the LEDs light when you hold Power for two seconds, the handle was responding and did not need battery removal.
3. Perform the normal CameraJet reset
If the charging path is detected but the controls remain stuck, use Dyson’s normal reset. This clears an unresponsive state without opening the battery compartment.

- Keep holding it for around nine seconds, or until the LEDs turn off and then turn on again.
- Release the button after that LED cycle completes.
- Reconnect the charger and check whether the battery indicator shows charging.
Do not stop the hold at the first momentary light change; the reset is identified by the LEDs turning off and on again. If the handle remains dark after a confirmed charging connection and this reset, continue to the battery reset rather than repeatedly pressing Power.
4. Perform the battery reset
The battery reset is a separate procedure and must be done with the toothbrush off its charger or dock.
- Remove the CameraJet from the charging cable or refill dock.
- Press and hold the Intensity button for 10–15 seconds.
- Continue until the LEDs turn off, then release the button.
- Reconnect the toothbrush to charging.
- Look for the solid-white battery indicator that confirms charging detection.
Keeping the handle off the charger during the Intensity-button hold is essential to the published sequence. If the white indicator returns afterward, leave the handle connected and verify that it can later start normally. If there is still no battery response, the remaining diagnosis changes from a temporary state to a likely battery or hardware fault.

What the battery indicators mean during troubleshooting
Solid white
A solid-white battery indicator, accompanied by the charging-detection tone, means the CameraJet has recognized the charging connection. It is the expected response after cleaning contacts, reconnecting the charger or completing the battery reset.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →No indicator
No indicator means the handle has not shown a charging response. Recheck contact cleanliness and dryness, the USB-C adapter, and the alternate cable or dock path before concluding that the battery has failed.
Continuously blinking red
Dyson identifies a continuously blinking red battery indicator as a possible critical fault. Follow the normal reset and battery-reset instructions once. If the red condition persists, stop troubleshooting at home and contact Dyson support rather than repeatedly cycling the controls.
LEDs that light only during a button hold
LED activity during the two-second Power hold can indicate travel mode. LED activity that follows the approximately nine-second Power hold indicates the normal reset cycle. Note which action produces the lights; that observation tells support whether the handle is responding to controls at all.
When Dyson’s diagnosis points to battery failure
Dyson’s support flow identifies battery failure when charging, travel-mode checks, the normal reset and the battery reset do not restore battery response. At that point, replacing the swappable battery is the appropriate hardware remedy, subject to your region’s parts availability and warranty terms.

The CameraJet battery is a click-in, swappable component. Dyson describes replacement as a way to prolong the life of the toothbrush, but the procedure still exposes the battery compartment and should be carried out carefully.
How to replace the Dyson CameraJet battery
Tools and safety
The published procedure calls for a T6 screwdriver. Work with the toothbrush disconnected from the charger and on a clean, dry surface. Do not use a modified or damaged battery. Once removed, keep the battery terminals insulated and away from metal objects, and dispose of the old battery according to applicable local rules.
Published replacement sequence
- Remove the seal at the base of the toothbrush.
- Use the T6 screwdriver to remove the screw.
- Gently pull out the existing battery.
- Insert the replacement battery.
- Reattach the screw.
- Replace the base seal.
Use a CameraJet-compatible replacement rather than attempting to adapt a battery from another product. If the compartment is damaged, wet or difficult to open, do not force it; have Dyson or an authorized service route assess it.
What to do after installation
Reconnect the toothbrush to the cable or dock and look for the solid-white battery indicator and charging tone. If charging is detected, allow the handle to charge before testing operation. If there is still no indicator after a correctly installed battery, the fault may involve the charging electronics, contacts or another internal component and requires service rather than another battery swap.

A dead handle versus a brush-head detection problem
Dyson’s UK parts guidance says the toothbrush only works properly with a Dyson brush head. Compatible brush heads therefore matter when the handle is powered but does not detect or operate correctly with a head attached. They are not the first remedy for a completely dark handle with no charging response.
For a brush-head symptom, first establish that the handle can show LEDs or charging detection. Only after power is confirmed should you inspect the head, its fit and its compatibility. This keeps a brush-head purchase from masking an unresolved battery or charging fault.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen to stop troubleshooting and contact Dyson
Use Dyson’s country-specific support and parts route when any of the following applies:
- The CameraJet shows no charging indicator after contact cleaning, reconnection, a second certified USB-C adapter and an alternate cable or dock path.
- Travel mode, the approximately nine-second Power reset and the 10–15-second off-charger battery reset do not restore LEDs or charging.
- The battery indicator continues blinking red after the reset instructions.
- The battery compartment is wet, cracked or otherwise damaged.
- The toothbrush is still within the warranty period that applies in your region.
- You cannot safely remove or install the battery with the specified T6 tool.
Tell support which charging accessory you tested, whether the solid-white indicator or tone appeared, which reset produced LED activity, and whether a red fault remained. Those observations are more useful than simply reporting that the toothbrush “will not turn on.”
Final decision checklist
Before ordering a replacement battery, confirm that you have completed the following in order:
- Contacts are clean and dry.
- The CameraJet cable or refill dock is connected to a listed or certified USB-C adapter.
- An alternate certified adapter and, where possible, the other charging route have been tested.
- Travel mode has been exited with the two-second Power hold.
- The normal Power reset has completed its LED off/on cycle.
- The battery reset has been performed off the charger with the Intensity button held for 10–15 seconds.
- You have checked for a persistent blinking-red battery fault.
If all seven checks fail to produce any battery response, the CameraJet has reached Dyson’s battery-failure endpoint. Use the swappable battery procedure only with a correct part and sound compartment; otherwise, arrange regional Dyson support.
