First identify which problem you have
“Won’t load” and “lost progress” can have different causes. A blank page, frozen loading screen, or game that never starts is usually a browser, extension, network, compatibility, or site-availability problem. A game that opens but starts at level one, refuses to save, or forgets a recent round is more often related to cookies, local storage, the browser profile or device where you played, or an account-sync system controlled by the publisher.

The game name is not specified here, so its supported browsers, save architecture, outage status, and recovery policy cannot be assumed. Use the checks below to separate a problem in your browser profile from a problem at the game site.
Protect your save before changing browser data
Do not begin by clearing all browsing data. Some browser games keep progress in local browser storage rather than on a publisher account. Arkadium says most of its games associate progress with the browser and device, which means a save may not appear on another computer or in another browser. That behavior is not universal, but it is a reason to preserve the original environment while you investigate: Arkadium’s progress-recovery guidance.

- Keep the original browser profile and device available until you know whether the game offers account sync, cloud saving, export/import, or a recovery process.
- Look in the game’s menus for labels such as Sign in, Account, Cloud save, Backup, Export, or Import. Follow the title’s own instructions before removing site data.
- If you can still open the game, record the player name, level, score, account email (without sharing a password), and the date of the last successful save.
- Do not use a private window for a permanent session: private windows commonly discard their temporary site data when closed.
Spil Games specifically advises enabling local storage and cookies for its games. Other publishers may use different requirements, so treat that as an example rather than a rule for every golf game: Spil Games’ loading guidance.
Fix a golf game that will not load
Perform these tests in order. Each step is reversible and gives you information for the next one.
1. Reload and check whether the failure is general
- Reload the game page once. If it is stuck, wait for the reload to finish instead of repeatedly opening new tabs.
- Open two unrelated, trusted websites in new tabs. If those also fail, restart the network connection or move to a known-working connection before changing browser settings.
- Copy the game’s exact URL. A broken bookmark, an old embedded link, or a removed game can look like a browser failure.
If the publisher provides a support or service-status page, check it now. A browser checklist cannot determine whether an unidentified title is experiencing an outage.

2. Confirm JavaScript is allowed
Modern browser games normally require JavaScript. Google’s troubleshooting instructions for games that do not play put JavaScript checks near the start of the process: Chrome Help: Fix videos and games that won’t play.
- Open the browser’s settings and search for JavaScript or site settings.
- Make sure JavaScript is allowed globally or for the game’s specific domain.
- Reload the game after changing the permission.
Also inspect the address-bar permission controls for blocked pop-ups, sound, cookies, or other content the game explicitly needs. Change only the game site’s permission when possible, not every site’s settings.

3. Test a private or incognito window
Open the same URL in a private window without changing anything else. This creates a clean session that usually excludes extensions and uses a separate temporary storage area.
- It loads privately: the regular profile is the leading suspect. A conflicting extension, stale permission, or damaged profile data may be involved.
- It fails privately too: the cause is less likely to be a normal-profile extension. Continue with another browser, network checks, and the publisher’s status information.
A private-window success does not prove that the game can save there. Close the private window only after noting the result, and return to the normal profile for any recovery work.

Google recommends using a successful private-window test to investigate extensions when games fail in the normal profile. In the regular browser window, open the extensions or add-ons manager, disable all nonessential extensions, and reload the game. If it works, re-enable extensions individually, reloading after each change, until the conflict returns. Remove or reconfigure the extension that causes the failure.
Pay particular attention to ad blockers, script blockers, privacy tools, security filters, and extensions that modify page content. Do not disable antivirus protection or other system security wholesale; use its documented web-filter exception process if the publisher identifies a blocked resource.
5. Try another supported browser
Open the game in a current browser different from the one that failed, preferably on the same device and network. Firefox’s support guidance recommends cross-browser testing to determine whether an issue is specific to Firefox: Mozilla: Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should.

Record whether the page loads, whether controls respond, and whether the game reaches its title screen. A different browser can establish a compatibility difference, but it does not establish that the second browser is safe for your existing save. Avoid moving or deleting the original profile until you understand where progress is stored.

Install the browser’s pending stable update and restart it. Google lists browser updates, cache and cookie troubleshooting, and network checks among its game-loading options. Mozilla likewise identifies cached data, extensions, settings, blocked content, and JavaScript as possible causes.
Only after checking the save options should you clear data. Prefer the browser’s control for one site or one domain rather than deleting all history, cookies, and stored data. A cache-only deletion is generally less destructive than removing cookies or site storage, but the exact menu names vary by browser and version. Sign-in sessions may be lost, and a local save may be erased if you remove the game’s storage.
7. Check for a site-side or account-side problem
If the game fails in the normal profile, a private window, and another current browser, the remaining possibilities include a publisher outage, a broken game build, a network or DNS problem, or an account-side issue. Check the named game’s support page or service status and follow its incident notices. General browser instructions cannot confirm which of those causes applies to an unnamed title.
Recover progress that is missing or will not save
1. Stop destructive troubleshooting
Do not clear cookies, local storage, or all browsing data while the original browser profile may still contain the save. Do not uninstall the browser or use a cleanup utility that removes website data. If the game has an export, backup, account-linking, or recovery command, use it first and keep any downloaded file in a safe location.

2. Reopen the original environment
Return to the browser profile and device used for the successful session. A browser-local save may be scoped to that combination, so opening the game on a phone, a second computer, a different browser, or a new browser profile can legitimately show no progress. Arkadium documents this browser-and-device association for most of its games; other publishers may use accounts or servers instead.
3. Verify cookies and local storage
Inspect the game domain’s permissions and allow the cookies or site storage that the publisher requires. Spil Games’ support article tells players to enable local storage and cookies when a game does not load. If your browser blocks third-party cookies, strict tracking protection, or storage access, try the game’s documented exception for its own domain rather than lowering protection everywhere.
4. Check account identity and sync status
If the title has sign-in, confirm that you are using the same account and the same sign-in method as before. A guest session may be separate from an account session. Look for a visible “last synced” time, cloud-save switch, or device list. Do not assume that a game’s account login converts an older local save automatically; ask the publisher whether it can be attached or recovered.
5. Reproduce the save test safely
- Play a short, low-stakes round or change a harmless setting.
- Use the game’s own Save, Exit, or account-sync control, if present.
- Close the tab normally, reopen the same URL in the same profile, and check whether the change remains.
If the test persists but older progress is absent, the original data may have been cleared, stored under another profile, or kept on an account the game no longer recognizes. If even the new test disappears, the site may be blocked from writing storage or its save service may be failing.

The title’s support team can tell you whether a save is local, account-linked, or recoverable. Include the exact game URL, account identifier (never your password), browser name and version, device and operating-system version, approximate last-successful-play time, and a screenshot or exact error text. Mention which browser and private-window tests succeeded or failed. The publisher may request different details, so follow its form and privacy instructions.

These patterns narrow the investigation; none proves a single cause. For example, a failure across browsers can still be a network-specific block or a broken game rather than a universal outage.
Chrome and Firefox cautions
Chrome-based browsers
Google’s official games guidance covers games that will not load, appear blank, or freeze. It discusses JavaScript, extension isolation, clearing browsing data, browser updates, resetting settings, and network checks: Chrome Help: Fix videos and games that won’t play. Treat clearing data and resetting settings as later options because they can affect a local save. Google also notes that Flash content no longer plays in Chrome; a game that still requires Flash needs a publisher-provided replacement, not an attempt to restore an obsolete plug-in.
Firefox
Mozilla lists cached data, extensions, browser settings, blocked content, and JavaScript among causes of pages that look wrong or fail to load: Mozilla’s website-display troubleshooting page. Its broader troubleshooting article explains Troubleshoot Mode, which isolates extensions, themes, and hardware acceleration: Mozilla: Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems. Use that mode as a diagnostic test, then return to normal browsing; it is not a substitute for checking the game’s save requirements.

What to send when support is required
- Exact game URL and the page where the failure occurs.
- Browser name, full version, device model, and operating-system version.
- Whether the game loads in a normal window, private window, and second browser.
- Whether other websites work on the same network.
- The precise error message, loading behavior, and time zone or approximate time it happened.
- For missing progress: the account name or support-safe identifier, original device and browser profile, last known level or score, and whether cookies or site data were recently deleted.
Do not send passwords, full payment details, recovery codes, or unrelated personal data. A screenshot should show the error without exposing private account information.
Actions to avoid
- Do not clear all cookies and site data as the first step.
- Do not assume a private-window session will preserve a save after it closes.
- Do not copy a local save folder between browsers unless the game publisher documents that procedure.
- Do not install unofficial “Flash fixes,” browser extensions, or downloadable save tools offered by unknown sites.
- Do not repeatedly reset browser settings when a single-site permission change or extension test can answer the question.
The safest path is to preserve the original save environment, compare a normal profile with a private window and another browser, and then use the game publisher’s own recovery or status process when the evidence points beyond the browser.
