In Google Photos, open a video and use the trim handles to choose the part you want to keep; use Crop to change its framing or aspect ratio. Google’s documented Android workflow also includes stabilization under Auto > Stabilize. The cited iPhone and iPad instructions cover trimming and cropping but do not document a stabilization control.
Trim a video in Google Photos
Trimming selects the section of the video you want to keep. The button labels differ slightly by platform.

- Open the video in Google Photos.
- Touch and hold a trim handle, then drag the handles to select the portion to keep.
- Tap Save to save the edited video as a copy.

Crop, rotate, or straighten a video
Crop changes the video’s framing. Aspect-ratio controls let you choose a different frame shape, such as a square.

Android
- Open the video and tap Crop.
- Choose Aspect ratio to select a frame shape.
- Use the other available crop controls if needed: rotate by 90 degrees, adjust the dial for minor straightening, choose Auto straightening when available, or mirror the image horizontally.
- Save the edited result as a copy.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the video, tap Edit, then tap Crop.
- Choose Aspect ratio to change the frame shape, or use Rotate.
- Use the dial for minor straightening, then save a copy.
Google’s cited iOS instructions list aspect ratio, rotation, and minor straightening; they do not list the Android guide’s horizontal-mirror control.
Stabilize a shaky video on Android
- Open the video in Google Photos.
- Tap Auto, then tap Stabilize.
- Tap Save to save the edited result as a copy.
This is the stabilization workflow documented in Google’s Android guide. The cited iPhone and iPad guide does not document a stabilization control, which is a limit of the documented instructions—not proof that such a control can never be available elsewhere.

Google’s help pages distinguish crop and straighten from video adjustments, so a device may meet one listed threshold without meeting another. Check the relevant platform guide if a control is missing: Android or iPhone and iPad.

What saving a copy means
The documented save actions are labeled Save on Android and Save copy on iPhone and iPad. Google’s cited instructions say the edited video is saved as a copy; they do not establish its backup status or make broader claims about how every later edit is handled.
