Yes. Reverie in the Moonlight is officially supported on Nintendo Switch 2, and you can move its save with Nintendo’s built-in nearby transfer. Put both consoles online and close together, link the same Nintendo Account to the relevant user on each, then send the save from the original Switch and receive it on Switch 2. Nintendo Switch Online is not required for this direct transfer.
There is one critical warning: nearby transfer moves the save rather than copying it. After a successful transfer, Nintendo deletes that save from the source console. If you overwrite an existing target save, the overwritten data is also unrecoverable.

What works with Reverie in the Moonlight on Switch 2
Nintendo lists Reverie in the Moonlight as a Nintendo Switch game that is “Supported” on Nintendo Switch 2, with game behavior consistent with the Nintendo Switch version. The listing gives an estimated 550 MB file size on each platform and identifies Save Data Cloud as a Nintendo Switch Online feature.

Nintendo also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. That edition has no differences in game content, supports Switch 2, and can be obtained with an upgrade pack when you own the Nintendo Switch version. Its listing also includes Save Data Cloud support through Nintendo Switch Online. The save-transfer procedure is therefore about moving your user’s save to the new console; it is not a separate conversion process for a different game story or progression system.

Choose the transfer method before you begin
Your best method depends on whether both consoles are in front of you and whether Switch 2 has already gone through initial setup.

For two working consoles that are together, use nearby transfer. It is the documented direct route and does not depend on a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Cloud storage is an alternative for supported software, not a requirement for the local process.
Prepare both consoles
Do these checks before opening the transfer menus. They prevent the most avoidable interruptions and let you stop safely if the target already contains progress you need.

- Have both consoles available: The nearby method requires the original Switch as the source and Switch 2 as the destination. Keep them close together during the process.
- Connect both consoles to the internet: Nintendo’s procedure requires internet access on both systems, even though it does not require Nintendo Switch Online.
- Use the same Nintendo Account: The user that owns the save on the original Switch must be linked to the same Nintendo Account on Switch 2. Nintendo restricts save transfer to users linked to the same account.
- Protect any target progress: Check whether Switch 2 already has a Reverie in the Moonlight save. The transfer can overwrite it, and Nintendo warns that overwritten data cannot be recovered.
- Keep the consoles powered and together: Do not intentionally close the transfer screens or move either system away while the send and receive operation is in progress.
Do not start by deleting the game or its save on either console. The transfer menus identify the user and save file; deleting data first removes the very file you are trying to move.
Transfer the save after Switch 2 setup
Use these exact menu paths when Switch 2 has already completed its initial setup.
- Open the send screen on the original Switch. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console.
- Select the source user. Choose the user profile that is linked to the Nintendo Account also present on Switch 2.
- Select the game save. Choose the Reverie in the Moonlight save file. Confirm that it is the progress you intend to move.
- Accept the send confirmation. Choose Next, review Nintendo’s warning, and choose OK when you are ready. The warning matters: this operation does not create a second copy.
- Open the receive screen on Switch 2. On the destination console, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Receive Save Data.
- Resolve an existing target save. If Switch 2 reports that it already has a Reverie in the Moonlight save, stop and decide whether that progress is expendable. Cancel if you need to preserve it; continue only if you accept that choosing overwrite deletes it permanently.
- Wait for completion. Leave both consoles near each other and online until Nintendo reports that the transfer has finished. Do not launch the game or change users during the operation.
- Verify the result. Launch Reverie in the Moonlight on Switch 2 with the receiving user and check that the expected progression, unlocks, and settings appear before you make further changes.
What the nearby transfer does to your old save
Nintendo describes this as a move, not a backup: “This does not create a copy of your save data. Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.” That deletion occurs after a successful send. You should therefore treat the original Switch as a temporary source, not as a fallback copy you can keep playing from.
The same one-way rule applies to a target save that you overwrite. If Switch 2 already contains progress for the game and you accept the overwrite prompt, Nintendo warns that the deleted data cannot be recovered. Compare the two saves before confirming; the transfer screen is not a merge tool and cannot combine progress from both consoles.

If you are uncertain which console has the latest progress, cancel before confirming the send or overwrite. Resolve that decision first rather than relying on the transfer to preserve both versions.
If Switch 2 has not completed initial setup
Nintendo’s System Transfer is the appropriate first-time route when Switch 2 is still in its initial setup process. It uses local communication to move save data together with broader console data and settings. Follow the setup wizard on Switch 2 and select the transfer option when it appears, then keep the original Switch available as the source and follow the on-screen pairing and user-selection instructions.
This route is broader than selecting one game under Data Management. Use it when you want the new console configured from the old one, not merely when you want to move Reverie in the Moonlight. If you have already finished setup, return to the nearby save-data procedure above instead of trying to restart initial setup solely for this game.
Nintendo also documents a temporary server-upload path for owners who will give up the old Switch before receiving the data on Switch 2. That option is intended for a handoff in which the source console will no longer be available at the same time as the destination. Read each confirmation carefully, because the transfer still represents a move of the save rather than a permanent duplicate.
Using Save Data Cloud instead
The Nintendo listings for Reverie in the Moonlight and its Switch 2 Edition include Save Data Cloud support through Nintendo Switch Online. If you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, cloud storage can provide a second route for supported save data: back up the save from the original console and download it to Switch 2 using the same Nintendo Account.
Cloud storage is useful when both consoles cannot be kept together, but it has different requirements from nearby transfer:
- You need Nintendo Switch Online for the cloud function; the local nearby transfer does not need it.
- Both consoles must use the Nintendo Account associated with the cloud save.
- The game must support Save Data Cloud, which the Nintendo listing confirms for this title.
- Cloud backup is not the same as the direct send command. Check that the cloud copy reflects the progress you want before downloading it to Switch 2.
Use nearby transfer when both systems are present and you want Nintendo’s direct console-to-console procedure. Use cloud storage when the consoles cannot be used together or when you deliberately want an online backup workflow.

Does the Switch 2 Edition use your existing save?
Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as having no differences in game content and says an upgrade pack is available when you own the Nintendo Switch version. The practical sequence is to move the save to Switch 2 with the same Nintendo Account, install or upgrade the game on that console, and launch it with the receiving user.

Because Nintendo lists the game as supported on Switch 2 and documents save transfer for it, you should not create a new user profile to bypass the transfer; doing so would place the new profile under a different account and would not satisfy Nintendo’s same-account condition.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The send or receive option is missing
Confirm that you are in System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data, rather than a similarly named data-management screen. The original Switch must choose Send Save Data to Another Console; Switch 2 must choose Receive Save Data. Update both consoles under System Settings > System > System Update, reconnect them to the internet, and reopen the menus.
The consoles do not find each other
Place the systems near each other, verify that both are connected to the internet, and ensure that the receiving console is on the Receive Save Data screen while the source is on the send flow. Check that you selected the same Nintendo Account-linked user on both systems. A different user account is not interchangeable with the profile that owns the source save.
Switch 2 already has a save
Do not automatically choose overwrite. Cancel if the target progress might be valuable. If you are certain the source save is the one you want, continue and acknowledge Nintendo’s warning that the target data will be deleted and cannot be recovered.
You want to keep playing on the old Switch
Nearby transfer is not designed to synchronize two continuing copies. Once the send succeeds, Nintendo deletes the selected source save. If you need an additional recovery route before moving, confirm that Save Data Cloud is available for your account and game through Nintendo Switch Online, then make sure the cloud copy is current.
The old Switch will be given away before Switch 2 arrives
Use Nintendo’s documented temporary server-upload option or cloud storage rather than waiting for a local transfer that requires both consoles. Complete the upload while the source is still available and use the same Nintendo Account when receiving the data on Switch 2.
The game opens with new progress
Exit and verify that Switch 2 is using the user linked to the same Nintendo Account as the source. A transferred save is associated with that user; launching under another profile can make the game appear to have no previous progress. If you used cloud storage, confirm that you downloaded the cloud save rather than starting the game before restoring it.
