Use Samsung Smart Switch to move data from an iPhone to a Galaxy. A cable is Samsung’s recommended option because it supports the broadest range of content. Wireless Smart Switch and an iCloud import are alternatives, but each has software, account, or content limitations. Keep the iPhone until you verify your important data, and turn off iMessage and FaceTime so texts and calls are routed correctly to the Galaxy.
Choose the right transfer method
Samsung Smart Switch is the central tool for moving supported content from an iPhone or iPad to a Galaxy phone. Samsung offers three practical routes: a direct cable connection, wireless Smart Switch, and an iCloud import started on the Galaxy. The best choice depends on whether you have a compatible cable, whether the iPhone is available, and where your data is stored.

Samsung Support US states that “the best method depends on what you are transferring, but cable transfer is recommended because it supports the most types of data.” No official transfer-time or success-rate figure is provided, so the duration depends on the amount and type of content and the connection you use.
Prepare both phones before moving anything
Preparation prevents the most common interruptions and gives you a way to recover if a category of data does not arrive as expected.

Charge, update, and unlock the devices
- Charge both phones, or keep them connected to power during a large transfer.
- Install available system updates where practical. The exact menus and wireless requirements depend on the software versions installed.
- Have the iPhone passcode ready. Smart Switch may ask for it after you connect the phones or authorize access.
- Have your Apple Account credentials available if you will import from iCloud or need to sign back into services on the Galaxy.
- Make sure the Galaxy has enough free storage for the photos, videos, messages, and other categories you select. Smart Switch can only copy data that fits in the available space.
A computer is useful for an iTunes backup or for copying unencrypted music, but it is not required for a direct cable or wireless Smart Switch transfer.
Check the phone connectors and cable
Use a cable that plugs directly into both phones. An iPhone with a Lightning connector may need a USB-C-to-Lightning cable when the Galaxy has a USB-C port. Some Smart Switch setups instead use a Lightning-to-USB cable with an appropriate OTG adapter. An iPhone with USB-C needs a compatible USB-C cable. Check the actual ports on both devices before buying or borrowing anything; a cable that charges one phone is not necessarily suitable for a phone-to-phone data connection.
Disable iMessage and FaceTime
Before switching your number to a non-Apple phone, deregister Apple messaging services. If the iPhone is in your possession, open Settings, turn off iMessage, and turn off FaceTime. Apple also provides an online deregistration process if the iPhone is unavailable. This prevents messages sent by other Apple users from remaining tied to iMessage instead of arriving as SMS or RCS on the Galaxy.

A wired transfer is the most complete general-purpose route. The following sequence follows Samsung’s US instructions for the One UI 8.5-and-older cable flow; wording can differ slightly on newer Galaxy software.
- On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch. If the app is not visible, search for it in the app drawer or in Settings.
- Tap Receive on this phone.
- Choose iPhone/iPad as the old device.
- Choose Cable.
- Connect the iPhone and Galaxy with the compatible cable and any required adapter.
- When the iPhone displays a trust request, tap Trust and enter the iPhone passcode if prompted.
- Wait while Smart Switch scans the iPhone. Select the categories you want to bring over, such as contacts, messages, photos, videos, calendars, and files.
- Tap Transfer and follow any on-screen instructions for individual apps or services.
- Leave both phones connected until the Galaxy finishes transferring and organizing the selected content. Do not disconnect simply because a progress indicator appears to have reached the end of one category.
Samsung notes that some apps, including WhatsApp, can require separate steps. Treat Smart Switch’s prompts as part of the transfer rather than assuming that an app’s complete history is copied automatically.

If the cable transfer does not start
- Unlock the iPhone and reconnect it, then look for the Trust This Computer prompt.
- Try the other end of a reversible USB-C cable or remove a hub that may not support data.
- Confirm that the adapter is an OTG/data adapter, not a charge-only accessory.
- Free space on the Galaxy and retry with fewer categories if the selected data is larger than the available storage.
- Restart both phones, open Smart Switch again, and repeat the receive-device sequence.
Transfer wirelessly with Smart Switch
Samsung now documents two wireless experiences. The newest one starts by scanning a QR code shown by the Galaxy and does not require installing Smart Switch on the iPhone, but it has strict software requirements. Older versions use the established Smart Switch app on the iPhone.
New QR-start transfer: iOS 26.6 and One UI 9.0 requirements
Samsung’s Singapore guide, updated August 19, 2026, says the QR-only flow works when the iPhone runs iOS 26.6 or later and the Galaxy runs Android 17 with One UI 9.0 or later. If either phone is below those versions, use the older app-based wireless route or a cable instead.
- Begin setting up the Galaxy, or open the Smart Switch receive flow if setup is already complete.
- When asked for the old device, choose iPhone/iPad.
- Continue until the Galaxy displays a QR code.
- Open the iPhone Camera and scan the QR code shown on the Galaxy.
- Authorize the connection with the iPhone passcode when requested.
- Grant the permissions Smart Switch requests so it can read the categories you selected.
- Choose the content to transfer, then continue on both phones.
- Keep the phones near each other, unlocked when prompted, and connected to power if the selection is large. Wait for the Galaxy to finish organizing the imported content.
App-based wireless transfer on older software
For software versions that do not meet the QR-only requirements, Samsung’s US instructions describe an app-based process.
- Install Smart Switch Mobile on the iPhone.
- Open Smart Switch on the iPhone and start the Wireless transfer option.
- On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch and tap Receive data.
- Choose iPhone/iPad, then choose Wireless.
- Scan the QR code shown by the Galaxy when the iPhone prompts you to do so.
- Authorize access, select the content, and continue on both devices until the Galaxy completes the transfer.
The wireless method avoids finding the correct cable, but it does not remove the normal content restrictions. Samsung says the categories available can vary by device and transfer method.
Import an iPhone backup from iCloud
Use this route when your information is stored in iCloud or the iPhone cannot be connected directly. Start on the Galaxy:

- Open Smart Switch.
- Tap Receive on this phone.
- Choose iPhone/iPad.
- Tap Get data from iCloud.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used for the backup and complete any verification Apple requests.
- Select the available content categories.
- Start the import and leave the Galaxy connected to power if the backup is large.
Samsung warns that some wireless iCloud data may not transfer. The iCloud route specifically cannot transfer iTunes music or videos. If you need unencrypted iTunes music, copy the files from a computer and import them as M4A files instead. This computer-based option applies to unencrypted music; it does not turn iCloud into a way to move protected iTunes media.

What Smart Switch can and cannot reproduce
Smart Switch moves supported content, not an exact image of the iPhone. The result depends on the source data, the Galaxy model, the transfer route, and the permissions granted.

Do not interpret an empty category as proof that the data is lost. First check whether it was synchronized to an account, stored inside an app with its own migration process, or excluded by the route you selected.
Handle WhatsApp, accounts, and music separately
WhatsApp chat history
Samsung’s newer wireless instructions say WhatsApp chat history can be backed up and restored after the wireless transfer phase, using the verification prompts shown on screen. Samsung’s cable documentation also warns that WhatsApp and some other apps may have app-specific steps. Open WhatsApp on the Galaxy, use the same phone number where applicable, and follow the Samsung and WhatsApp prompts for verification and restoration. Do not erase the iPhone until the chats and media you need are visible on the Galaxy.
Accounts, passwords, and synchronized data
Sign in to your Google, email, calendar, cloud-storage, and other service accounts on the Galaxy. Information that was synchronized to those accounts may populate after sign-in. Because Apple Keychain passwords are not transferred, retrieve credentials through the relevant service’s recovery process or another secure password manager rather than expecting Smart Switch to recreate them.

Music libraries
Music purchased or stored through iTunes cannot be brought over through Smart Switch’s iCloud import. For unencrypted iTunes music, use a computer to copy the files and import them as M4A. Streaming services require you to install their Android app and sign in again; the availability of a particular app or library depends on the service.

Keep the old iPhone intact until the Galaxy has passed a deliberate check. Use this sequence:
- Open Contacts and check several names, phone numbers, and groups.
- Open Photos and Videos, including older items and albums that matter to you.
- Review Messages and confirm that recent conversations and needed attachments are present.
- Check calendar entries, reminders, notes, and files that you selected for transfer.
- Sign in to synchronized accounts and confirm that their data has finished appearing.
- Open WhatsApp and verify the required chats and media if you migrated them.
- Place a call, receive a call, send an SMS, and test RCS if your carrier supports it.
- Send a message from an Apple user to your phone number. If it does not arrive as SMS or RCS, confirm that iMessage is deregistered.
- Only after these checks should you erase or trade in the iPhone.
Apple says an online iMessage deregistration can take a few hours to be recognized by some Apple devices. During that period, messages from certain contacts may still behave as though the number is registered with iMessage.
Troubleshoot missing or incomplete data
A category is absent from the transfer list
Smart Switch’s available categories vary by device and method. Try a cable if you used wireless or iCloud, and check whether the information is account-synchronized or held inside an app that has its own export process.

Delete or move unnecessary files on the Galaxy, then repeat the transfer with the most important categories first. Photos and videos usually consume the most space, so check their size before selecting every category.

Messages from iPhone users do not arrive
Turn off iMessage and FaceTime on the old iPhone if it is available. If it is not, use Apple’s online deregistration process. Wait for the deregistration to propagate, then ask a contact to send a new test message.
Passwords are missing
This is expected for Apple Keychain data: Samsung says Keychain passwords are not transferred. Sign in to each service manually or use the service’s account-recovery option.
iTunes media is missing after iCloud import
iTunes music and videos are excluded from the iCloud route. Copy unencrypted music from a computer as M4A files instead; use the relevant service’s Android app for streaming libraries.

- Choose a cable when you want Samsung’s broadest supported-content option and can match the two phone connectors.
- Choose wireless Smart Switch when avoiding a cable matters and both phones meet the QR-flow requirements, or when you can install the iPhone app for the older wireless process.
- Choose iCloud when the needed data already exists in iCloud or the iPhone cannot be connected, while accepting that some content may be unavailable.
- Use a computer as a supplement for unencrypted iTunes music or an iTunes backup, not as a requirement for every Smart Switch route.
Whichever route you select, transfer first, verify the Galaxy, deregister Apple messaging services, and preserve the iPhone until the checks are complete. That sequence avoids the two costly mistakes in a phone switch: deleting the only copy before verification and missing messages because the number remains associated with iMessage.
