On the iPhone, choose From Android; on the Pixel, install and open Move to iOS, enter the temporary code, select the data categories you want, and leave both phones powered and nearby until the iPhone’s progress bar finishes. A direct USB-C connection is optional and may be faster or more reliable than Wi‑Fi, but wireless transfer is supported too.
That setup transfer can bring over contacts, messages, photos, videos, files, calendars, call history, WhatsApp data and other supported information. Music, books and PDFs require a separate manual route. If the iPhone has already been configured, you must either erase it and begin setup again or move the content manually.

Choose the right transfer route before you start
Your iPhone’s setup state determines which method is available. Apple’s automated process is part of the initial setup sequence; it is not a migration tool that can simply be opened later on an already-configured iPhone.

|---|---|---|
| iPhone is new or has not completed setup | Move to iOS | Use From Android during setup, then transfer the selected categories from the Pixel. |
| iPhone is already set up and you are willing to wipe it | Erase the iPhone, then use Move to iOS | Erasing removes the iPhone’s current content and settings. Back up anything on it that you need first. |
| iPhone is already set up and you do not want to erase it | Manual transfer | Add accounts, copy media through a computer, use cloud apps for documents and reinstall apps individually. |
| Compatible Android device running Android 17 or later | Apple’s app-free setup option | During setup choose Transfer without App and pair by scanning the iPhone’s QR code. Apple says compatibility depends on the device manufacturer, so this is not a universal Pixel method. |
Apple’s full setup instructions are in Move from Android to iPhone or iPad. Google describes the same general process in Transfer your data from Android to iPhone.

Prepare both phones for a clean transfer
A few minutes of preparation prevents the most common interruptions.
- Charge both phones and connect them to power. Keep them powered for the entire transfer rather than relying on their current battery levels.
- Turn on Wi‑Fi. The wireless method creates a temporary connection between the devices. Keep the Pixel and iPhone close together.
- Check iPhone storage. Compare the amount of selected Pixel content with the iPhone’s available space. Include photos, videos and any content stored on a Pixel’s external Micro SD storage. If the destination fills during migration, Apple warns that only some content may arrive.
- Update Chrome on the Pixel if you want Chrome bookmarks included.
- Decide whether to copy Apple’s photo and calendar data. Google advises unchecking Apple Photos or Apple Calendar in Move to iOS if you intend to keep using Google Photos or Google Calendar. Those Google services remain available after you install their iPhone apps and sign in.
- Have a suitable USB-C cable available if you prefer a wired connection. The cable must fit the specific Pixel and iPhone models; USB-C availability and connector arrangements vary by device generation.
- Review your accounts and passwords. The transfer can move supported account information, but you may still need to authenticate in apps after migration.
Do not promise yourself a fixed completion time. Apple and Google provide procedural guidance rather than a benchmark, and the duration depends on how much data you select and whether you use a cable or Wi‑Fi.
Transfer a Pixel during iPhone setup with Move to iOS
- Start iPhone setup. Turn on the iPhone and proceed until you reach the Transfer Your Apps & Data screen.
- Choose From Android. The iPhone displays instructions for connecting the Pixel.
- Choose the transfer method shown by your iPhone. For the ordinary app-based flow, select Transfer with App.
- Install Move to iOS on the Pixel. Download it from Google Play, open it, and accept the requested prompts so it can prepare the connection.
- Enter the iPhone’s code on the Pixel. The iPhone displays a temporary numeric code; type that code into Move to iOS.
- Join the temporary Wi‑Fi network if prompted. The Pixel may ask to connect to a network created for the transfer. Follow the on-screen instruction instead of switching back to your usual network.
- Choose the content categories. Select the information you want to bring across. The amount selected must fit in the iPhone’s available storage.
- Leave both phones alone while copying. Keep Move to iOS visible on the Pixel, keep the devices near each other and connected to power, and do not answer calls, open another app or manually change networks.
- Wait for the iPhone’s progress bar to complete. The Pixel may appear finished first; do not disconnect it until the iPhone reports completion.
- Finish iPhone setup and inspect the results. Sign in where prompted, then open the relevant apps and check representative contacts, messages, photos, files, calendars and WhatsApp conversations rather than assuming every item transferred.
Google says a USB-C cord is more reliable than Wi‑Fi, while Apple describes a direct USB-C connection as a faster alternative. Neither source supplies a measured speed difference or a guaranteed completion time.

When the app-free Android 17 option applies
Apple’s current support instructions include a second setup path for compatible devices running Android 17 or later. This is conditional: Apple says compatibility is device-dependent and recommends checking with the Android manufacturer.
- Begin iPhone setup and reach Transfer Your Apps & Data.
- Choose From Android, then select Transfer without App.
- Use the Pixel’s camera to scan the QR code displayed by the iPhone.
- Follow the pairing and selection prompts, then keep both phones powered and nearby until the iPhone completes the progress bar.
If the option does not appear, use the regular Move to iOS app flow or a manual method. Do not treat the app-free path as a replacement that works on every Pixel.

What Move to iOS can transfer
Apple lists the following categories as eligible in the setup migration. Availability can depend on the data on your Pixel and the corresponding iPhone support, so verify important information after setup.
| Category | What to expect | Post-transfer check |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | Contacts can be included in the selected transfer. | Open Contacts and search for several names, including one with a photo or multiple numbers. |
| Message history and SMS | Supported message history and SMS can move with the transfer. | Check recent and older conversations for more than one contact. |
| Camera photos and videos | Photos and videos from the Pixel camera library can be copied. | Check recent shots, older albums and a video, and confirm the iPhone has enough space. |
| Photo albums | Supported albums can be transferred with the photo content. | Open Photos and inspect album organization. |
| Files and folders | Eligible files and folders can be included. | Browse the iPhone’s Files app and open several file types. |
| Accessibility and display settings | Apple lists these settings among supported content. | Review settings because an individual preference may still need adjustment. |
| Web bookmarks | Bookmarks can move; update Chrome on the Pixel first if you want Chrome bookmarks included. | Open the iPhone browser and test several saved links. |
| Email accounts | Supported account information can be transferred. | Open Mail and complete any requested sign-in or verification. |
| WhatsApp messages and media | Apple lists WhatsApp messages and media as transferable. | Open WhatsApp, verify your account and inspect important chats and attachments. |
| Voice Memos | Voice recordings can be included. | Play a recent and an older recording. |
| Call history | Call history is among Apple’s listed categories. | Check the Phone app’s Recents list. |
| Calendars | Supported calendar data can move. | Compare several future appointments and recurring events. |
| Some free apps | A free app may be matched when it exists in both Google Play and the App Store and supports the transfer. | Look for the app on the Home Screen and sign in; unmatched apps must be installed from the App Store. |
App matching does not guarantee that an app’s private data, downloads or account session will be restored. For a data question tied to one particular app, Apple directs users to that app’s developer.
Content that needs a separate, manual route
Apple’s exact guidance is: “Music, books and PDFs need to be moved over manually.” Treat these as a separate work list rather than waiting for them to appear after Move to iOS.
Mail, contacts and calendars after setup
If you skipped the automated transfer or kept the iPhone without erasing it, add your existing mail, contact and calendar accounts in the iPhone’s account settings. Sign in to each provider and enable the categories you want synchronized. This approach keeps the information with the account instead of creating a one-time copy.
Photos and music through a computer
Apple documents using a computer to copy photos or music from the Pixel and then sync or import them to the iPhone. Connect the Pixel to the computer, copy the required folders to a location you can access, then connect the iPhone and use the computer’s iPhone synchronization or import workflow. Keep the original Pixel files until you have opened representative items on the iPhone.

ePub books and PDFs
Move ePub books and PDFs through a computer or a compatible reading app. A reading app may require you to sign in and import the files from its document picker. Confirm that the files open on the iPhone before deleting the originals from the Pixel.

For documents already stored online, install the relevant cloud service on the iPhone and sign in. Apple specifically cites Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive as examples. This gives the iPhone access to the cloud copy without requiring the entire document library to pass through the setup transfer.
Apps and app-specific information
Install unmatched apps from the App Store. Then sign in and check whether the service restores data from its own account or backup. If an app’s information is missing, contact its developer; the general Android-to-iPhone process cannot guarantee private app databases or settings.
If the iPhone is already set up
Option 1: erase and run the automated transfer
Choose this only when you are comfortable removing the iPhone’s current content and settings. Back up anything important on the iPhone, use its erase option, and restart setup. When Transfer Your Apps & Data appears, select From Android and follow the Move to iOS steps above. If the iPhone is managed by an employer or school, check with the administrator before erasing it.
Option 2: keep the iPhone and move items manually
If erasing is unacceptable, leave the iPhone as it is and use the manual routes for accounts, media, books, PDFs, cloud files and apps. This avoids a reset but requires you to handle each category separately and verify it yourself.

Storage, verification and what to do if space runs out
Before selecting content, compare the Pixel’s data—including external Micro SD content—with the iPhone’s free capacity. If the iPhone runs out of space during migration, Apple warns that only part of the data may have arrived. The documented remedy is to erase the iPhone, free enough space by reducing the selection or otherwise making room, and retry the transfer.
After a successful copy, verify high-value information in a deliberate order:
- Open Contacts and check several names and phone numbers.
- Read recent and older message threads.
- Inspect photos, videos and albums, including files from external storage that you selected.
- Open Files and test documents, then check cloud apps.
- Review calendars, call history, Voice Memos and WhatsApp media.
- Launch matched apps, install missing apps and complete sign-ins or verification.
Keep the Pixel intact until these checks are complete. The transfer is a copy process, so deleting the source too early removes your easiest recovery path.
Fix a transfer that stops, hangs or misses content
Move to iOS closes or loses focus
Keep Move to iOS on screen on the Pixel. Do not answer calls, switch to another app or lock the phone while the transfer is active. Restart the process if the app was interrupted.
The phones cannot maintain the connection
Turn off Android settings that interfere with Wi‑Fi. If necessary, forget known Wi‑Fi networks, restart both phones and turn off mobile data on the Pixel before trying again. Then return to the iPhone’s From Android flow and generate a new connection.

The iPhone appears full or only some data arrived
Stop and check available iPhone storage before repeating the transfer. Reduce the selected categories or free enough space, then erase and retry as Apple describes. Do not assume that a completion message means every category arrived if the destination was full.
A wired transfer shows a USB prompt on Android
When using a cable, Android may display a USB notification. Open that prompt and adjust the USB setting as requested so the phones can communicate. If the cable does not fit both devices or the connection remains unavailable, switch to the supported wireless method.
Some data is still missing
First check whether the missing item is one Apple says requires manual handling. Music, books and PDFs do not arrive through the ordinary automated route. For supported categories, compare the selection screen with the post-transfer checks and retry after correcting storage or connection problems. For app-private data, ask the app developer about its Android-to-iPhone migration support.
USB-C cable or Wi‑Fi?
| Connection | Advantages | Requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Direct USB-C | Google calls a USB-C cord more reliable; Apple describes direct USB-C as a faster alternative. | You need a cable that fits both specific phones, and Android may require a USB-setting change. No official speed benchmark is provided. |
| Wireless | No cable is required and it is the standard Move to iOS path. | Both phones need Wi‑Fi enabled, must remain near each other, and should avoid settings or network changes that interrupt the temporary connection. |
Choose the cable when you have a compatible lead and want the vendors’ stated wired advantages. Choose Wi‑Fi when you do not have a suitable cable or when the hardware combination does not support the same connector arrangement. Neither method changes which categories require manual handling.
Phone-number, SIM and eSIM activation
Data migration and cellular activation are related but separate tasks. Apple says the phone number and SIM or eSIM may be activated during the move, and you may be sent to your network provider to finish activation. Carrier support is not guaranteed by the general transfer instructions, so keep your carrier’s activation process available and confirm that calls, texts and mobile data work after the iPhone setup is complete.
A practical completion checklist
- The iPhone has enough free storage for the categories selected, including any external Micro SD content.
- Both phones stayed powered, close together and in the transfer flow until the iPhone’s progress bar completed.
- Contacts, messages, photos, videos, files, calendars, call history, Voice Memos and WhatsApp data were checked where applicable.
- Chrome bookmarks were prepared by updating Chrome before the transfer.
- Music, books and PDFs were copied by a manual method.
- Missing or unmatched apps were installed from the App Store and signed in.
- SIM or eSIM activation, calls, texts and mobile data were tested with the carrier if necessary.
- The Pixel remains untouched until you are satisfied that the iPhone contains what you need.
For the official procedures and the latest device-compatibility notes, consult Apple’s Move from Android to iPhone or iPad, Apple’s manual Android-to-iPhone guide and Google’s Android-to-iPhone transfer instructions.
