Conan Exiles character transfer uses a two-stage export and import process. From the server holding your character, choose ESC on keyboard or Options on controller, open Character > Server Transfer, export the character, then join an eligible destination and select Import Character during character creation. Your level, appearance, Knowledge, attributes, equipped gear, backpack, hotbar and eligible followers move with you; buildings and ordinary storage at the old server do not.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted Conan Exiles servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
Transfers are currently available on PC and console according to Funcom’s April 14, 2026 R15 announcement, with Steam transfers re-enabled by an April 27 hotfix. Availability and eligibility can change after later patches, so the in-game transfer menu is the final check. Official and unofficial servers have different direction rules, cooldowns and administrator controls, and a destination that already contains one of your characters must be cleared before importing.

What a Conan Exiles character transfer does
A transfer exports one complete character profile from its current server and stores it on your account until you import it elsewhere. It is not a world migration: the old server’s buildings, chests, crafting stations and other placeables remain behind and are abandoned to decay. Only data attached to the character or to followers inside the allowed follower limit is carried.
Think of the process as export once, import once. You cannot keep playing the exported copy on the source server while also using an imported copy, and you cannot export a second character while the first exported character is still stored. The destination must accept the source server type, have compatible settings and maps, and not already contain another character belonging to you.

- DOMINATE: Wage war against your enemies, use siege weapons and explosives and see their walls crumble to dust, then unleash your savage fury in violent and brutal combat
- BUILD AN ARMY OF THRALLS: Capture NPCs, drag them back to your base, and use the Wheel of Pain to break their will. Turn them into archers, crafters, entertainers, and more for your settlements
Current availability and important dates
Funcom’s R15 announcement on April 14, 2026 said that players would again be able to move characters freely between servers: Funcom R15 update announcement. A Steam hotfix dated April 27, 2026 stated that character transfers had been re-enabled on Steam and that followers missing after a transfer should be restored when the player logs in: Funcom April hotfix. The instructions below reflect the transfer documentation available on October 18, 2026. If the Server Transfer option is absent or a platform is temporarily disabled after a patch, follow the current in-game message and Funcom notice rather than forcing an export.
Prepare the character before exporting
Preparation prevents the most common failed transfers and item losses. Complete these checks while you are still on the source server.

- Stay within carrying capacity. Do not be over-encumbered when exporting. Move excess materials to a clanmate or another safe location that you understand will not travel.
- Leave your Clan. A character in a Clan cannot transfer. If you own a clan base, arrange its future ownership and storage with the remaining members before leaving.
- Consolidate what must travel. Put desired equipment, resources, consumables and quest items in the character’s main inventory or hotbar. Items in chests, workstations, vaults, dropped bags or other world containers are not included.
- Prepare followers. Followers inside the transfer limit can travel, including their inventory, level and stats. Remove unnecessary followers and verify that the ones you need are in follower inventories rather than standing somewhere in the world.
- Remove modded content where possible. Funcom warns that modded items and thralls may transfer incorrectly or make an export fail, and it does not support failures caused by modded content. Replace modded gear with compatible vanilla equipment and empty follower inventories of risky items before exporting.
- Plan for followers when leaving a Clan. Funcom recommends listing thralls in the Thrall Trading Post for a minimal price before leaving, coordinating with clanmates, and buying them back afterward. This is a coordination workaround, not a guarantee that every modded or incompatible follower will survive.
- Check the destination first. Confirm its server category, map, transfer setting and whether you already have a character there. An export can be stored, but importing into an ineligible destination will not work.
Funcom’s Help Center gives the preparation rules and follower recommendation in its character-transfer article.
Step-by-step: export and import the character
1. Enter the source server
Join the server that currently contains the character you want to move. Complete the preparation checklist before opening the transfer menu.
2. Open the Character menu
Press ESC on a keyboard or Options on a controller. Under Character, choose Server Transfer. If the option is unavailable, see the troubleshooting section below instead of assuming that the character is permanently locked.

3. Review the export summary
The game displays an export-data summary and the server types that can receive the character. Read the eligibility information carefully. It is the point at which the game identifies incompatible destinations, map requirements or transfer restrictions before you commit.
4. Confirm the export
Accept the confirmation dialog. A success message appears, the game disconnects you from the source server and returns you to the main menu. Do not close the game during this confirmation sequence or attempt to export another character.
5. Find an eligible destination
Open Server Browser. In the LV column, an icon marks servers eligible for the exported character. The icon is absent when you already have a character on that server. Filter or search for the intended server and verify its map and settings before joining.
6. Join the destination
Enter the eligible server. If the server is unofficial, its administrator may have disabled transfers or restricted which source servers are accepted, even when the general direction is supported.
7. Open character creation
Start the character-creation flow on the destination server. You do not create a replacement character first; the import control appears within this flow when the stored export is eligible.

8. Select Import Character
Choose Import Character and accept each confirmation prompt. If the server cannot receive the character, the menu instead shows Cannot Import Character and gives a reason. Record that reason before changing settings or deleting anything.
9. Confirm the arrival
After a successful import, the character spawns near a starting location on the destination map. Open the inventory, attributes, Knowledge and follower interfaces immediately to verify the expected data before travelling far from the spawn area.
Funcom’s complete official procedure is documented at conanexiles.com/character_transfer.
What transfers with the character
The following character data is retained when the destination accepts the export:
| Category | Transferred data | What to verify after import |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Character name and appearance | Open the character screen and confirm the name and visual customization. |
| Progression | Level, experience points, unlocked Knowledge, completed Journey steps, attribute-point allocation, Perks and Corrupted Perks | Check the Knowledge, Journey and attribute panels before spending or resetting anything. |
| Equipment | Equipped items | Inspect every equipment slot for compatibility and durability. |
| Personal storage | All items in the main character backpack and Hotbar | Check stack counts and hotbar assignments; items stored elsewhere do not appear here. |
| Followers | Followers within the follower limit, including their inventories, levels and stats | Use the Follower UI, then place followers only after establishing a safe landclaim. |
Follower transfer does not automatically give you a safe base. After importing, establish a secure landclaim and use the Follower UI to place the arriving followers.

- Explore a giant world, from the burning desert in the South to the snow-capped mountains in the North
- stay warm, cool yourself down, drink and eat, weather scouring sandstorms, prevent your mind from being corrupted when exploring dark dungeons, and battle vicious monsters to stay alive
- harvest resources to craft tools and weapons, then build anything from a small home to entire cities piece by piece
What does not transfer
- Buildings and placeables: Structures, crafting stations, decorations, storage containers and other placeables belonging to the character are abandoned on the source server and decay there. The export is not a base backup.
- World storage: Items in chests, workbenches, vaults, dropped bags or any container outside the character’s inventory and follower inventories are left behind.
- Incompatible mod content: Modded items or thralls may be lost, arrive incorrectly or cause the export/import to fail. Mod data stored outside the item or thrall itself can disappear.
- Clan ownership and shared assets: Leaving a Clan does not transfer the clan’s buildings or shared stockpile to the destination. Arrange ownership and recovery with clanmates before exporting.
Because the source world is not copied, take screenshots or write down coordinates for anything you intend to rebuild, and transfer only the personal items that the game’s summary confirms.
Server compatibility rules
Transfer direction depends on whether the source and destination are Official, Unofficial or single-player/co-op. The rules below describe supported directions; a particular unofficial server can still opt out or apply a whitelist.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Source | Supported destinations | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Official PvP | Official PvP, PvE-C or PvE | Official-to-Official direction is allowed across these categories. |
| Official PvE-C | Official PvE-C or PvE | It cannot transfer to Official PvP under the stated rules. |
| Official PvE | Official PvE only | Official PvE has the narrowest Official destination range. |
| Official any category | Unofficial | Official-to-Unofficial is supported if the unofficial administrator allows it. |
| Unofficial | Unofficial | Supported subject to the destination administrator’s settings. |
| Unofficial | Official | Unsupported. |
| Any supported server | Single-player or co-op | Supported by the transfer system. |
| Single-player or co-op | Dedicated server | Unsupported. |
The official transfer documentation and Help Center explain these compatibility rules at Funcom’s transfer page and Funcom Help Center.
Unofficial-server controls
An unofficial administrator can disable the feature with ServerTransferEnabled=False. The administrator can also control whether a character may be reimported directly from the same server with CanImportDirectlyFromSameServer, and restrict accepted origins with ServerTransferServersWhitelist. The whitelist expects public IP addresses and ports, not domain names. Ask the administrator for the exact current values before exporting; a general compatibility rule cannot override these server-side settings.
Cooldowns, stored exports and destination limits
| Transfer type | Current cooldown |
|---|---|
| Official PvE | 24 hours after import |
| Official PvE-C | 24 hours after import |
| Official PvP | 7 days after import |
| Unofficial | 24 hours after import |
| Single-player/co-op | 24 hours after import |
Only one character can be exported at a time. The stored character must be imported before another character can be exported. You can delete a stored export from the account tab, but deletion is permanent and does not restore the character to the source server. After import, the applicable cooldown prevents another transfer until the stated period has elapsed.

A destination that already contains one of your characters must be cleared first. The LV-column eligibility icon is therefore useful before exporting, but it does not replace checking whether an existing character occupies the destination.

You may select an eligible destination on either Exiled Lands or Isle of Siptah. Isle of Siptah destinations require ownership of that DLC. Check the destination map in the Server Browser and confirm that the account receiving the import owns any required expansion before exporting. A map change does not convert the process into a base migration: only the retained character and follower data travel.
Why Import Character is missing
The import button appears only after a successful export is stored and you are in the destination’s character-creation flow. Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm that the export completed. You should have seen the confirmation message and been disconnected to the main menu. If you remained in the source world, repeat the process only after checking the transfer status.
- Use Server Browser, not a direct join. The LV-column icon identifies eligible destinations. A server without the icon may reject the stored character before character creation opens.
- Check destination ownership. If you already have a character on that server, remove or relocate it according to the game’s account controls before attempting the import. Deleting a stored export is permanent, so do not delete the wrong entry.
- Verify direction rules. Unofficial-to-Official and single-player/co-op-to-dedicated-server transfers are unsupported. Official category restrictions also apply.
- Ask an unofficial administrator to check settings. The server may have
ServerTransferEnabled=False, a restrictive whitelist, or a same-server import rule that blocks the attempt. - Check map ownership. An Isle of Siptah destination requires the DLC. Choose Exiled Lands if the account does not own it.
- Review the exact error. When the menu says Cannot Import Character, use the displayed reason to identify the incompatibility instead of repeatedly exporting.
- Remove risky mod content. If the export was made with modded items or thralls, return to a supported setup where possible. Funcom does not support failures caused by modded content.
- Check current platform status. Transfers were reintroduced and re-enabled during April 2026, but later patches can change availability. If the menu is absent on a platform, consult the latest Funcom notice and wait for the feature to be enabled rather than deleting the stored character.
After a successful import
- Open the character screen and verify name, appearance, level, experience, attributes, Perks, Corrupted Perks, Knowledge and Journey progress.
- Inspect equipped items, backpack stacks and hotbar slots. Do not assume that world storage followed you.
- Open the Follower UI and check follower levels, stats and inventories. If a follower disappeared immediately after the transfer, log in again after applying the April 27, 2026 hotfix guidance; Funcom said missing followers should be restored on login.
- Establish a safe landclaim before placing followers or rebuilding storage.
- Rebuild essential crafting and shelter infrastructure on the destination; the old base and placeables are not part of the import.
- Note the cooldown shown by the game and plan the next move only after it expires.
A practical destination decision guide
Choose the destination by matching the source category and your priorities before exporting:
- Moving between Official servers: confirm the PvP, PvE-C or PvE direction in the compatibility table and expect the 24-hour or seven-day cooldown that matches the destination transfer type.
- Moving to an Unofficial server: contact the administrator first, verify that transfers are enabled, ask whether your source is on the whitelist and confirm mod requirements. Official-to-Unofficial is supported, but the administrator can still refuse the import.
- Moving from Unofficial to Official: do not export expecting it to work; that direction is unsupported.
- Moving to single-player or co-op: the direction is supported, but the same inventory, follower, mod and base limitations apply.
- Changing maps: choose Exiled Lands or Isle of Siptah only after confirming DLC ownership and the destination’s eligibility icon.
Transfer checklist
- Character is not over-encumbered.
- Character has left the Clan.
- Desired items are in the backpack, hotbar or eligible follower inventories.
- Modded items and thralls have been removed where possible.
- Destination category, map, DLC ownership and administrator settings are confirmed.
- No character of yours occupies the destination.
- Export summary lists the intended eligibility.
- After import, progression, inventory and followers are checked before rebuilding.
Character transfer is reliable when treated as a controlled export/import rather than a server backup. Prepare only the data the game carries, select a destination whose direction and settings are explicitly compatible, and keep the cooldown and irreversible deletion rules in mind.
