To keep your Call of Duty progress on Nintendo Switch 2, link the Nintendo Account on your console to the same Activision account that already holds your progress. Activision stores cross-progression on its account, not on the platform account. Do the link in a web browser before starting the supported Call of Duty game on Switch 2.
The short answer: link the original Activision account
There is no separate “transfer” file for your online Call of Duty profile. Your levels, unlocks and other cross-progression data follow the Activision account that stores them. The Nintendo Account identifies your Switch 2 player, but it does not contain the Activision progression itself.

Use a browser to connect the Nintendo Account used by your Switch 2 player profile to the Activision account where you already played. If you accidentally connect Nintendo to a new or different Activision account, the game can look empty even though your old progress still exists. Activision says the progress and content are not lost; access returns when the Nintendo account is linked back to the original Activision account, subject to its unlinking rules.

| Layer | What identifies it | What it controls | Correct recovery if it looks missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activision identity | Your Activision account | Cross-progression for supported Call of Duty games, including the online profile and content covered by that game’s cross-progression system | Check the Nintendo link and reconnect the original Activision account |
| Nintendo platform identity | Your Nintendo Account and the Switch 2 user profile linked to it | Console sign-in, platform services and Nintendo purchases or entitlements | Use the same Nintendo Account on the intended Switch 2 profile |
| Local or cloud Nintendo save data | A user on a Nintendo console, with Nintendo’s transfer or cloud-save rules | Save files handled by the Nintendo operating system | Repeat Nintendo’s nearby-console or cloud-save process; this does not replace Activision account linking |
| Game edition | The supported Switch 2 release you own | Whether you can start the title on the new console | Confirm that your edition is for Switch 2 and supported for the account and region in use |
Activision’s support explanation is explicit: “Games with cross-progression store game progress on your Activision account, not your platform account.” That is why copying a Nintendo save file alone cannot reconstruct an Activision profile.

Before you start: a five-minute identity check
- Find the old Activision login. Use the email address and sign-in method for the Activision account where your Call of Duty progress is visible on your existing platform.
- Identify the exact Nintendo Account. On Switch 2, the player profile you will use must be linked to the Nintendo Account you intend to connect. Do not use a family member’s or temporary account by mistake.
- Prepare email access. Activision requires an email verification code during the link process.
- Confirm the game edition. You must own and install a Call of Duty release that supports Nintendo Switch 2. The official product listing currently identifies Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 in Standard and Vault editions, with an October 23, 2026 launch date.
- Stop if you are unsure. Creating another Activision account will not combine profiles and can make the wrong account appear active.
How to link your Call of Duty account to Switch 2
- Open Activision’s account site in a browser. Sign in to the Activision account that already contains your Call of Duty progress. Do not begin with a new account created for Switch 2.
- Open Linked Accounts. In the account settings, locate the
Linked Accountssection. This page shows the platform identities currently connected to that Activision account. - Choose Nintendo and start the link. Select
Link Accountbeside Nintendo. If another Nintendo identity is already shown, stop and verify that it is the Switch 2 account you want before changing anything. - Complete email verification. Enter the verification code Activision sends to the account email address. Check spam or junk folders if the message is delayed, and request a new code only from the same active session.
- Sign in to Nintendo. When redirected, sign in with the Nintendo Account linked to the Switch 2 player profile. Review the authorization prompt and approve the connection.
- Launch the supported game on Switch 2. Start the installed Call of Duty title while using the Nintendo profile whose account you just linked. Allow the game to finish its sign-in and synchronization process before judging whether the profile loaded.
- Verify the profile in-game. Check the name, level, unlocks and other items you recognize from the old account. Do not create a replacement Activision account if the first screen appears new; use the troubleshooting steps below.
The order matters: the existing Activision identity is the source of progression, while Nintendo is the platform identity being attached to it. Signing into Nintendo first with a different Activision account can produce an apparently empty profile.
If your progress is missing after the link
1. Stop making changes
Do not create another Activision account, start rebuilding unlocks or repeatedly unlink and relink accounts. Those actions can make the identity trail harder to untangle, and Activision can restrict unlink requests.
2. Inspect the active Nintendo connection
Return to the Activision account settings and open Linked Accounts. Determine which Activision account currently lists the Nintendo Account. A Nintendo Account attached to the wrong Activision account will not display the progression stored on your original account.

3. Sign into the original Activision account
Use the login that showed your old Call of Duty profile. If you have several email addresses, test them one at a time in a private browser window and look for the account whose linked-platform list matches your previous setup. Never assume that a Nintendo sign-in email is the same as the Activision email.
4. Relink only when the account page permits it
Remove the Nintendo connection from the incorrect Activision account only if the account controls allow it, then link Nintendo from the original Activision account. Activision says platform unlink requests may be limited to once every 12 months and can be denied for security reasons. A blocked request is not evidence that the progress was deleted.
5. Restart the game session
After the account page shows the intended link, close the Call of Duty software on Switch 2 completely and start it again. Use the same Nintendo user; switching to another local profile can sign you into a different platform identity.

6. Escalate with account details, not a new profile
If the original account cannot be relinked, use Activision’s support process while preserving the current account state. Provide the Activision account email, the Nintendo Account being linked and the exact error or restriction shown. Do not buy services that promise to transfer or merge progress; the supported recovery path is account linking.
Why Nintendo save-data transfer is a different process
Nintendo provides a separate mechanism for moving save data between consoles. For a nearby-console transfer, Nintendo requires the same Nintendo Account to be linked to a user on both consoles. Cloud-backed save data can be available on a second Switch 2 when the Nintendo Switch Online membership remains active and the title supports that save system.
That Nintendo process moves operating-system save files. It does not change which Activision account owns online Call of Duty progression. Conversely, linking the correct Activision account does not copy unrelated local saves from an older Nintendo console. Treat them as two independent tasks:

What should carry over—and what is not guaranteed
The reliable rule is account-based: when a Call of Duty game supports cross-progression, its game progress is stored with the Activision account. Connecting the same account on Switch 2 is therefore the required handoff for the supported profile.
That rule should not be expanded into a blanket promise about every item. The currently available support material does not publish a complete, title-by-title matrix for every game, currency, purchase, bundle or unlock at Switch 2 launch. Before relying on a particular entitlement, check the current support information for that exact Call of Duty title and edition.
- Progress: Levels and other profile data covered by the game’s cross-progression system are associated with the Activision account.
- Content: Activision says progress and content are not lost when a platform is linked to the wrong Activision account; relinking the original account restores access where supported.
- Purchases and currency: Do not assume that every platform purchase or balance is portable. Verify the specific title’s current rules before buying an edition or expecting a balance on Switch 2.
- Compatibility: The game must support Switch 2 and the account must be using that supported release. A correct account link cannot make an unsupported title run on the console.
Switch 2 launch context for Call of Duty
The official Call of Duty product information lists Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 in Standard and Vault editions, scheduled for October 23, 2026. Activision has also announced a native Switch 2 version developed by Infinity Ward with Digital Legends.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
This launch information answers the hardware question—there is a listed Switch 2 edition—but it does not replace the account check. Owning a Standard or Vault edition gives you the relevant software entitlement for that release; it does not merge two Activision accounts. Use the account-link procedure first, then start the edition associated with your Nintendo profile.
Common mistakes and the precise fix
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The game starts at level one on Switch 2 | Nintendo is linked to a different or newly created Activision account | Check Linked Accounts, identify the original account and relink Nintendo if permitted |
| You copied a save file but online progress is absent | Nintendo save transfer was treated as an Activision transfer | Complete the Activision link; save-data transfer is a separate layer |
| The verification message never arrives | You are checking the wrong email or the message was filtered | Confirm the signed-in Activision email, check spam, then request a fresh code |
| You see an unlink restriction | Activision’s security policy or 12-month unlink limit applies | Do not keep retrying or create accounts; use Activision support with the account details |
| A second Switch 2 user has no access to the profile | That user is linked to a different Nintendo Account | Use the Switch 2 user profile connected to the Nintendo Account that was linked to Activision |
| A desired item is not present | The title, purchase or currency may have separate portability rules | Check the current support article for that exact game and entitlement before assuming it transfers |
A safe decision path
- Know the old profile: Confirm the Activision account where the progress is visible.
- Know the console user: Confirm which Switch 2 player profile and Nintendo Account you will use.
- Link once: Connect Nintendo from the original Activision account and complete verification.
- Test before changing anything: Launch the supported title and inspect the profile.
- Recover methodically: If it is empty, inspect the link rather than creating another account.
- Respect restrictions: Unlinking can be limited to once per 12 months and denied for security reasons.
What to verify after a successful transfer
- The Switch 2 user profile is still linked to the intended Nintendo Account.
- The Activision account page lists Nintendo as linked to the original progression account.
- The supported Call of Duty title has completed its first synchronization on Switch 2.
- Your recognizable profile information is present before you purchase add-ons or spend currency.
- You have not created a second Activision account that could be mistaken for the original.
Account linking is the essential step; Nintendo’s console save transfer is optional and applies only to Nintendo-managed save data. Recheck title-specific support information after major updates because the complete list of transferable entitlements can change.
