Use Apple’s Move to iOS app while the new iPhone Duo is still in setup. It can bring over contacts, messages, photos, videos, files, mail accounts, call history, calendars and WhatsApp messages and media from Android. For an iPhone-to-iPhone move, use Quick Start or a backup restore, then complete WhatsApp’s own transfer flow. A USB-C data cable is optional and can make a wired transfer faster.
Choose the correct transfer route first
Your old phone determines the safest method. Android users should start the migration from the new iPhone Duo’s setup assistant. iPhone users should use Apple’s Quick Start process or restore a backup during setup. WhatsApp is included in the Android-to-iPhone migration when it is offered by Move to iOS, while iPhone-to-iPhone WhatsApp transfers have their own prompts.

Prepare both phones before moving anything
Keep the phones charged and together
Charge both devices before starting and keep them close to one another throughout the transfer. Do not begin a migration immediately before you need the old phone; you must be able to leave both devices alone until the process reports completion.

WhatsApp advises backing up your chat history before changing phones. Follow the guidance in its About changing phones help article. A backup gives you a recovery option if a transfer is interrupted, but you still need to complete the destination phone’s WhatsApp setup and verify the result.

Check the phone number you will keep
Plan to register WhatsApp on the iPhone Duo with the same phone number used on Android. WhatsApp’s Android-to-iPhone process requires number verification on the new phone; changing numbers at the same time is a separate task and should not be mixed into this migration.
Decide whether to use a cable
You do not have to buy a cable to use Move to iOS. Apple describes a USB-C connection as a way to boost transfer speed, and the official Move to iOS listing supports either a USB-C cable or a USB-C-to-Lightning connection. The right cable depends on the ports on both phones, not on the iPhone name alone.
Android to iPhone Duo: complete procedure
1. Install Move to iOS on Android
On the Android phone, install Apple’s official Move to iOS app from Google Play. Open it only when you are ready to begin the iPhone setup. Keep the Android phone unlocked and available while you work through the prompts.

Turn on the iPhone Duo and proceed through its initial setup until you reach the option to transfer data from Android. This option belongs to the setup process, not to a migration screen that appears after the phone is already configured.
The iPhone will display a temporary code. Open Move to iOS on Android, accept its prompts and enter that code when requested. The code pairs the two devices for this transfer.

3. Select the information to copy
Move to iOS presents the categories available for migration. Select photos and WhatsApp when they appear, along with any other categories you want. Apple’s support documentation lists the following possible items:
- Contacts
- Message history and SMS messages
- Camera photos and videos
- Photo albums
- Files and folders
- Accessibility settings
- Display settings
- Web bookmarks
- Email accounts
- WhatsApp messages and media
- Voice Memos
- Call history
- Calendars
Apple also describes the process as transferring contacts, messages, WhatsApp content, photos, videos, email accounts, favorite apps, call history and more in its iPhone Duo switching guidance. The exact selection screen can vary with the phones and software, so select only categories that are actually offered.

After you confirm the selection, let the transfer run without opening other apps, moving either phone away or disconnecting a cable. The progress indicator can pause while large photo libraries or videos are processed. Official Apple and WhatsApp pages do not publish one universal completion time, so do not treat a particular number of minutes as a failure.
5. Finish iPhone setup
When Move to iOS reports that it is finished, continue through the remaining iPhone setup screens. The iPhone may automatically download iOS versions of apps that have matching App Store listings. If an app does not appear, search for it in the App Store and download it manually.
App availability is not the same as Android app migration. Android-only apps have no iPhone version, and an app’s Android data may not be readable by its iPhone counterpart. You may need to sign in again, restore data from that service’s own account, or decide whether a paid iPhone version must be purchased separately. Move to iOS does not turn an Android purchase into an iPhone license.

6. Activate WhatsApp and inspect it
Install or open WhatsApp on the iPhone Duo, register the same phone number and complete verification. When prompted, allow WhatsApp to import the transferred chats and media. Open several recent and older conversations, check group membership, and play a sample of transferred photos or videos before you erase the Android phone.

What “transfer your apps” really means
Move to iOS can identify favorite apps and help you obtain their iPhone equivalents, but it cannot guarantee that every Android app, account state or purchase will be reproduced. Treat the app portion as a combination of discovery and fresh App Store downloads rather than a byte-for-byte clone.

For critical services such as banking, authentication, password managers and work applications, record the required sign-in or recovery steps before you reset the old phone. This is a preparation safeguard, not a promise that those apps will copy their sessions.
WhatsApp from Android: requirements and limits
Use the same number and the supported app
Complete WhatsApp registration on the iPhone Duo with the same phone number used on Android. The Android-to-iPhone feature is for the standard WhatsApp app. WhatsApp’s troubleshooting page states that chats cannot be moved to or from WhatsApp Business with this feature; Business users need to follow a different, service-specific migration plan.
If WhatsApp is already active on the iPhone
If you opened WhatsApp on the iPhone before the Move to iOS import completed, or if the import failed, WhatsApp directs users to start a new transfer from Move to iOS and follow the current prompts. Consult WhatsApp’s Android-to-iPhone troubleshooting guidance for the current conditions and messages.

Verify before deleting Android data
Do not judge the import solely by the number of chats shown. Open conversations from different dates, check that group names and participants are present, and test representative images, videos, voice notes and documents. Keep the Android phone intact until these checks pass and you have a separate backup you can restore.
Choosing and using the transfer cable
A wired connection is an optional speed and convenience measure, not a requirement. Apple says that connecting the two devices with USB-C can boost transfer speed. The Move to iOS listing names two relevant connection types:

Confirm the connector on the iPhone Duo and the Android phone before buying anything. A cable that physically fits may still be charge-only, so use a cable rated for data transfer. If the devices do not support the same wired arrangement, continue with the in-app transfer instead of forcing an incompatible adapter.

Move to iOS is intended for the new iPhone’s initial setup. If you completed setup and reached the Home Screen, Apple’s support instructions say to erase the iPhone and start setup again before using this Android migration route. Erasing removes data already placed on the new phone, so copy anything you need from it first and make sure you know the Apple Account credentials required to activate it again.

After the reset, repeat the Android procedure: install Move to iOS, select the Android transfer option during setup, enter the displayed code and choose the categories. If you do not want to erase the iPhone, you will need to move individual items with their own services instead of using the complete Move to iOS workflow.

iPhone to iPhone Duo: Quick Start and backup methods
Use Quick Start for a direct move
Place the old iPhone near the new iPhone Duo and turn both on. When the new phone offers Quick Start, follow the on-screen pairing and transfer prompts. Keep the old iPhone active until the new one has finished copying and downloading its content.
Restore an iCloud or computer backup
During setup, you can choose an available iCloud backup or a backup made on a computer instead of using a direct device-to-device transfer. Select a backup that includes the data you need, enter the requested account credentials and allow the restore to finish before judging which apps or photos are missing.
Complete WhatsApp’s separate transfer
WhatsApp has its own account-transfer or chat-transfer flow for moving between iPhones. Open WhatsApp on the old iPhone, use the transfer option it provides and follow the QR-code or backup prompts shown on the two devices. WhatsApp recommends backing up chat history before changing phones in its changing-phones guidance.
Check everything before erasing the old iPhone
On the iPhone Duo, verify that the photo library has populated, important apps open correctly, and WhatsApp chats and media are present. Only after those checks should you erase or trade in the old iPhone. This order protects you from discovering a missing backup after the source device is gone.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The iPhone does not show an Android transfer option
- Confirm that you are still in initial setup rather than at the Home Screen.
- If setup is complete, preserve anything needed on the iPhone, erase it and restart setup for Move to iOS.
- On Android, install the official Move to iOS app from Google Play and retry the pairing code.
The transfer stops or appears stuck
- Keep both phones charged, close together and untouched while the progress screen is active.
- Check that the selected categories fit on the iPhone’s available storage; large photo and video libraries take longer to process.
- If the process fails, restart the migration from the beginning rather than assuming a partial WhatsApp import is complete.
WhatsApp chats are missing
- Confirm that WhatsApp was selected in Move to iOS and that the same phone number was verified on the iPhone.
- If WhatsApp was opened prematurely or the import failed, start a new Move to iOS transfer and follow WhatsApp’s current prompts.
- Check whether the source app was WhatsApp Business; that app is excluded from this Android-to-iPhone feature.
- Keep the Android phone and its backup until chats and media are visible on the iPhone.
An app is absent or asks for payment
- Search the App Store for the app’s iPhone edition.
- Sign in with the account that stores the app’s data.
- Ask the developer whether an Android purchase transfers; do not assume that it does.
Final pre-reset checklist
- Contacts and recent messages are visible.
- Photos, videos and albums open correctly, including older items.
- Important files and voice memos are present.
- Mail accounts, bookmarks, calendars and call history have arrived where expected.
- Every essential app has been downloaded and signed in.
- WhatsApp opens with the correct number, chats, groups and representative media.
- A WhatsApp backup and any other critical cloud backups are current.
- You have tested the iPhone Duo for calls, messages and account verification.
Once those checks are complete, you can safely erase the old phone for reuse, trade-in or recycling. Until then, treat it as your recovery copy.
