It is not a direct transfer. This guide covers that GBA route and distinguishes it from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the 3DS remakes. A key constraint: Pokémon Bank is scheduled to end service on February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST (February 26 at 03:00 UTC), and Bank and Poké Transporter are no longer available for download.
Which Hoenn games are you transferring from?
The route depends on whether your Pokémon are in the original GBA games or the 3DS remakes. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual explicitly says Pokémon from the GBA series—including Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald—can migrate to Platinum. By contrast, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are already 3DS games and use the 3DS-era services rather than Pal Park. The official game page identifies the remakes as Nintendo 3DS titles: Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

What do you need for the GBA-to-HOME route?
For the original GBA games, this is a multi-cartridge, multi-system process. Check that you have the required games and installed apps before starting:
- The GBA Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald cartridge.
- A Nintendo DS system that has a GBA cartridge slot, plus a compatible Generation IV DS game. Nintendo’s Platinum manual confirms the GBA migration feature; check the manual for your chosen Generation IV title for its exact prerequisites.
- A compatible Generation V game—Black, White, Black 2, or White 2—for the DS Poké Transfer process and subsequent Poké Transporter transfer. Nintendo lists those four games as Poké Transporter source titles in its Pokémon Bank support information.
- Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter already installed on a compatible 3DS system. They are no longer available for download, so do not assume you can install them now if they are missing.
- A paid Pokémon HOME Premium Plan for the Bank-to-HOME transfer.
If you need hardware for the Pal Park step, verify the exact system model and condition before buying used: the important requirement is a DS model with a GBA cartridge slot, not simply any DS-family system.

How to transfer Pokémon from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald to Pokémon HOME
- Migrate from the GBA game to a Generation IV DS game with Pal Park. Put the GBA cartridge and a compatible Generation IV DS game in a DS system that supports GBA cartridges. In the DS game, first obtain the National Pokédex; it is required for migration. Select the Pal Park migration option and follow that game’s instructions. Nintendo’s Platinum manual confirms the supported GBA series and migration feature.
- Move the Pokémon from Generation IV to Generation V. Use the DS Poké Transfer process with a supported Generation V game. Nintendo’s manuals for Pokémon White and Pokémon Black document this transfer method: White manual and Black manual. Follow the instructions for the specific games you own.
- Send Pokémon from Generation V through Poké Transporter to Bank. This step depends on having Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank available on your 3DS. Nintendo’s Bank support page lists Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 as supported Poké Transporter sources.
- Transfer from Bank to Pokémon HOME. Use the Bank-to-HOME transfer option and a paid Pokémon HOME Premium Plan. Nintendo’s transfer instructions explain the process. Once transferred, a Pokémon cannot be sent back to Bank.
Is Pokémon Bank still available?
Pokémon Bank is scheduled to end service at 7:00 p.m. PST on February 25, 2027 (03:00 UTC on February 26, 2027). After the service ends, Pokémon can no longer be transferred from Bank to HOME. Bank and Poké Transporter are not currently available for download, so this route is practical only for players who already have access to the required software. If your Pokémon are already in Bank and you want them in HOME, make the transfer before the announced cutoff. The date and app availability are stated in The Pokémon Company International’s service announcement and Nintendo’s support information.
Bank became available at no cost on March 27, 2023, but that did not remove the paid HOME Premium requirement for moving Pokémon from Bank into HOME. The 2026 end-of-service notice supersedes the earlier statement that Bank had no planned end date. See The Pokémon Company International’s 2023 announcement and its 2026 service announcement.

- Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
- Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
- Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
- Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.
Can you move an Emerald Pokémon to a Switch game?
Not directly from Emerald. The Pokémon must first travel through the GBA-to-DS and 3DS-to-HOME chain above. From HOME, a Pokémon can move onward only to games that support that Pokémon; not every Pokémon can be placed in every game. Pokémon HOME’s official page describes its role as a service for managing and moving Pokémon between compatible games: Pokémon HOME. Before moving a Pokémon out of Bank, check the destination game’s compatibility, because the Bank-to-HOME transfer cannot be reversed.
