You cannot move a Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen cartridge directly into Pokémon HOME or a current Switch game. The documented route is a chain of handoffs: GBA game → Pal Park in a compatible Generation IV game → Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 → Poké Transporter → Pokémon Bank → Pokémon HOME → an eligible newer game.
This requires legacy hardware, specific game versions, Nintendo 3DS services, and careful account setup. Plan the destination first, because some transfers are permanent and HOME may not allow an individual Pokémon into every connected game.

The complete transfer route at a glance
Each stage uses a different game or service. A GBA cartridge is read only during the Pal Park step; it is never inserted into Pokémon Bank, Poké Transporter, HOME, or a modern Switch title.
| Stage | Source | Destination | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Pal Park migration | Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen | A compatible Generation IV game, documented here with Pokémon Platinum | Nintendo DS-family system with a GBA Game Pak slot, both game cartridges, and the National Pokédex in the Generation IV game |
| 2. Poké Transfer | Generation IV game | Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 | A compatible Generation V game and its unlocked transfer facility |
| 3. Poké Transporter | Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 | Pokémon Bank | Access to a compatible Nintendo 3DS-family system, Bank, and Transporter |
| 4. Bank-to-HOME move | Pokémon Bank | Pokémon HOME | HOME Premium, the correct account linkage, and either a 3DS for a selected-box move or HOME’s no-3DS process |
| 5. Final placement | Pokémon HOME | A newer compatible Pokémon game | HOME’s per-Pokémon “Games it can travel to” eligibility check |
Read these warnings before moving anything
Pal Park removes the Pokémon from the GBA cartridge
When you confirm a Pal Park migration, the selected Pokémon disappear from the original GBA Game Pak. The Pokémon Platinum instruction manual states that they cannot be returned to that cartridge. Do not migrate a Pokémon until you are certain the original save no longer needs it.

- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
Bank-to-HOME is also one-way
Pokémon Support states that Pokémon moved from Bank to HOME cannot be moved back to Bank. They also cannot be returned to a Nintendo 3DS Pokémon game through that service. Check the intended HOME destination before starting this handoff.
Bank has a published shutdown date
The current Pokémon Bank service page says that service, including Bank-to-HOME transfers, will end on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. This date and time are quoted in the page’s own time zone. Recheck the official Bank page before you begin, and do not assume the service will remain available after that cutoff.
What hardware and games are required
A DS with a real GBA Game Pak slot
The first step needs a Nintendo DS-family system that physically accepts a GBA Game Pak. A Nintendo DS Lite is an example of a model with that slot; verify the exact console model before buying or borrowing one. A Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, or Switch cannot read the GBA cartridge for Pal Park.

The five GBA games covered by the documented Platinum procedure
The Pokémon Platinum manual names Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire, Pokémon Emerald, Pokémon FireRed, and Pokémon LeafGreen as eligible sources. The cartridge must be inserted into the DS system’s GBA slot while the Generation IV game occupies the DS card slot.
A Generation IV Pokémon game
The precise menu wording and restrictions can vary by Generation IV title. The instructions below follow the Pokémon Platinum manual because it explicitly documents all five GBA games. If you use another Generation IV release, consult that game’s own manual for its Pal Park requirements.
A Generation V transfer game
Poké Transporter accepts Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black Version 2, and Pokémon White Version 2 as source games. Your Pokémon must reach one of those games before Transporter can see them.
3DS services and accounts
The documented service path uses Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter on a compatible Nintendo 3DS-family system. Compatibility pages describe which games the services support, but they do not guarantee that a particular user can newly download the applications today. Confirm that the apps are already available on your system and that the associated account still works.

Pokémon HOME Premium
Pokémon Support requires a paid Pokémon HOME Premium Plan for a Bank-to-HOME move. A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required for this described HOME function. You also need the Nintendo Account used by HOME and, for Bank, the Nintendo Network ID associated with that Bank installation.

Step 1: Migrate from the GBA game into Pal Park
Prepare the Pokémon on the GBA save
Choose up to six Pokémon that you want to move during this migration window. In Pokémon Platinum, the manual limits a GBA Game Pak to six Pokémon every 24 hours. That limit is specific to the Platinum instructions; do not apply it automatically to every Generation IV title without checking its manual.
Before inserting the cartridges, verify that none of the selected Pokémon is holding Mail or knows a hidden move. The Platinum manual lists both conditions as migration blockers. Resolve those conditions in the GBA game first.
Unlock the National Pokédex
Pokémon Platinum requires the National Pokédex before the “Migrate From” option becomes available. Complete the game’s requirements for that Pokédex before attempting to use Pal Park.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use the Pal Park menu
- Turn off the Nintendo DS system.
- Insert the GBA Pokémon Game Pak into the system’s GBA slot and insert the Generation IV game card into the DS slot.
- Start Pokémon Platinum and choose “Migrate From” on the start menu.
- Select the eligible Pokémon on the GBA save and confirm the migration. Read the confirmation carefully: this is the point at which the Pokémon leave the original cartridge.
- Restart the Generation IV game after the migration, then enter Pal Park and catch the migrated Pokémon there.
Pal Park is not a live connection to the GBA save. The migration copies the selected Pokémon into the Generation IV save and removes them from the source cartridge. Keep the DS powered as instructed by the game and do not interrupt the process.
If the migration option is missing
- Confirm that the GBA cartridge is fully seated and that the DS model has a GBA slot.
- Check that the Generation IV game is the one you intend to use and that its National Pokédex requirement has been met.
- Look for Mail or hidden moves on every selected Pokémon.
- Check whether you have already used the Platinum six-Pokémon allowance during the current 24-hour period.
- If you are using a title other than Platinum, consult that title’s manual instead of assuming its menu labels and limits match Platinum.
Step 2: Move the Pokémon from Generation IV to Generation V
After catching the Pokémon in Pal Park, they reside in the Generation IV game. The next handoff is the in-game Poké Transfer facility in Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
What is established about this step
A scan of the Pokémon Black manual identifies the Poké Transfer Lab on Route 15 and says the National Pokédex is required. The exact unlock sequence and menu wording can differ by version, so verify those details against the manual for your own Generation V game before starting.
Practical sequence
- Progress through the Generation V game until its National Pokédex and Poké Transfer requirements are met.
- Use the game’s Poké Transfer Lab, identified in the Black manual as being on Route 15.
- Follow the on-screen connection instructions to select the Generation IV game and the Pokémon that are now in it.
- Complete the in-game transfer process and confirm that the Pokémon appear in the Generation V save before moving on.
At this point, the original GBA cartridge is no longer part of the process. The Pokémon must be in one of the four Generation V titles recognized by Poké Transporter.

Transporter-compatible source games
| Generation V title | Accepted by Poké Transporter |
|---|---|
| Pokémon Black | Yes |
| Pokémon White | Yes |
| Pokémon Black Version 2 | Yes |
| Pokémon White Version 2 | Yes |
Nintendo’s compatibility list also names Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, Pokémon Ultra Moon, and Pokémon HOME in the wider Bank ecosystem. That list does not mean Transporter can read a GBA cartridge. The GBA Pokémon must first pass through Pal Park and Generation V.

- The Pokémon Shining Pearl game brings new life to this remade classic with added features
- Explore the Grand Underground to dig up items and Pokémon Fossils, build a Secret Base, and more.

Before opening Transporter
- Confirm that the Pokémon are saved in Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
- Confirm that Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter are accessible on the 3DS-family system you will use.
- Use the Nintendo Network ID associated with the Bank installation.
- Do not erase or trade away the Generation V save until Bank shows that the Pokémon arrived.
Run the Generation V-to-Bank handoff
- Launch Poké Transporter on the compatible 3DS-family system.
- Select the supported Generation V game when Transporter asks for the source.
- Choose the Pokémon to send according to the application’s on-screen instructions.
- Complete the move into Pokémon Bank, then open Bank and verify the receiving box.
The cited compatibility documentation establishes the supported titles and service relationship, not a guarantee that every account can newly obtain the applications. If Transporter is absent, unavailable, or not linked to the expected Bank installation, resolve that service-access issue before changing any save data.
Step 4: Move Pokémon Bank boxes into Pokémon HOME
Pokémon Support requires HOME Premium for this move. There are two documented methods, depending on whether you still have access to a 3DS displaying Pokémon Bank.
Method A: Use a 3DS and select the boxes
- Open Pokémon HOME and start the option to move Pokémon from Pokémon Bank.
- HOME displays a temporary Moving Key.
- On the 3DS, open Pokémon Bank and choose the command to begin moving Pokémon to HOME.
- Enter the Moving Key from HOME into Bank before it expires. Pokémon Support says the key is valid for three minutes.
- Select the Bank boxes to move, confirm the operation, and wait for HOME to finish receiving them.
Keep both systems available during the handoff. If the key expires, generate a new one rather than reusing the old code.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Method B: Start the move without a 3DS
Pokémon Support says you can initiate the move from HOME without a 3DS by linking the Nintendo Network ID used with Bank to the Nintendo Account used with HOME. This option moves all Pokémon in Bank at once; it is not a box-by-box selection tool. Confirm that the IDs are the ones attached to the Bank and HOME accounts before accepting the move.
What cannot be undone
Once Bank completes the transfer to HOME, Pokémon Support says the Pokémon cannot go back to Bank. Treat the confirmation as a permanent departure from the 3DS service and verify the intended HOME account first.
Step 5: Check whether a Pokémon can enter the new game
Arrival in HOME does not make a Pokémon usable in every newer release. Eligibility is determined per Pokémon and per connected game.
- Open the Pokémon HOME mobile app and select the Pokémon you are considering.
- View its “Games it can travel to” information.
- On Switch, use the connected-games view while managing the Pokémon in HOME.
- Do not promise a destination if the game is grayed out. A grayed-out game indicates that the Pokémon cannot be used there.
Check this display before the Bank-to-HOME move whenever possible. It lets you decide whether the final destination supports that particular Pokémon rather than relying on the species name alone.

- Generation V destination: Black, White, Black 2, or White 2.
- Transporter access: a compatible 3DS-family system with Bank and Poké Transporter accessible.
- HOME account: Nintendo Account linked correctly; Nintendo Network ID available for Bank.
- HOME plan: paid Premium Plan active for the Bank-to-HOME operation.
- Final game: checked in HOME’s “Games it can travel to” display.
- Schedule: enough time to complete every handoff before February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST, while allowing for account or hardware problems.
Troubleshooting by symptom
“Migrate From” is unavailable
Check the DS slot, confirm the GBA cartridge is recognized, obtain the National Pokédex in the Generation IV game, and remove Mail or hidden moves. If you already migrated six Pokémon in Platinum, wait until the stated 24-hour period has passed.
Rank #4
- Don the role of a Pokémon Trainer as you travel through Kanto
- Discover a new species of Pokémon with the Pokémon Lets Go series
- Catch Pokémon in the wild using a gentle throwing motion with either a Joy-Con controller or a Poké Ball Plus accessory, which will light up, vibrate, and make sounds to bring your adventure to life
- See the world in style by customizing Pikachu and your Trainer with a selection of outfits
- Connect to Pokémon GO* to transfer caught Kanto-region Pokémon, including Alolan and Shiny forms, as well as the newly discovered Pokémon, Meltan, from that game to this one
The Pokémon are not visible in Generation V
Verify that Pal Park catching was completed and saved in the Generation IV game. Then check that you are using a Generation V title supported by Poké Transfer and that its transfer facility has been unlocked.
Poké Transporter cannot find the source game
Transporter’s documented source list is limited to Black, White, Black 2, and White 2. It does not read Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen directly, and it does not replace the Generation IV-to-V handoff.
The Moving Key expired
Return to HOME, generate a new Moving Key, and enter it in Bank within the three-minute validity window. Do not keep trying an expired code.
You do not have a 3DS
Use HOME’s documented no-3DS method only if the Nintendo Network ID used with Bank is linked to the Nintendo Account used with HOME. That process transfers all Pokémon in Bank at once, so review the Bank contents before starting.
The target game is grayed out in HOME
That Pokémon is not eligible for that game according to HOME. Choose another connected title that HOME lists for the Pokémon; do not assume a later update or a different copy of the same species will change the current eligibility display.
How to schedule the transfer before the cutoff
Work backward from the Bank deadline rather than starting with the cartridge. First confirm that HOME Premium, the Nintendo Network ID, and the Nintendo Account are usable. Then verify access to Bank and Transporter, test the DS and GBA slot, and identify the exact Generation V and Generation IV cartridges. Once those pieces are ready, perform the Pal Park and in-game transfers, confirm each save, and reserve time for the Bank-to-HOME move.
The official page currently gives the final Bank service time as February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Because service availability and dates can change, check that page again immediately before committing an irreversible migration.
