A save from the free FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE demo can carry into the full game, according to Square Enix. An existing save on a Nintendo Switch can be moved to a Nintendo Switch 2 with Nintendo’s nearby-console Transfer Your Save Data feature. A cloud backup is a separate route that requires Nintendo Switch Online. Official materials do not confirm importing a PlayStation, Xbox or PC save into the Switch 2 version.
Use the section that matches your starting point. Nearby-console transfer is the only method that physically moves an existing console save, and it deletes the sent save from the source system, so read the overwrite warning before accepting it.

Switch 2 demo to the full game
Square Enix says the free demo and the full release share save-data carryover. Its January 23, 2026 announcement says players can try the demo and “carry over their save data to the full game.” That establishes a game-level handoff from the demo to the purchased game; it is not the same operation as moving a save between two consoles. Read the announcement at Square Enix’s release notice or the publisher’s official announcement.

Demo carryover does not mean that every save associated with a Square Enix account will appear automatically. The confirmed promise concerns the demo save recognized locally by the full game. Keep the demo installed, or at least keep its save data intact, until you have launched the full release and verified your progress.
Nintendo Switch save to Nintendo Switch 2
For an existing compatible save on another console, use Nintendo’s system-level transfer. The source and target consoles communicate directly over the internet-assisted nearby transfer flow. This route moves the save file rather than copying it, and it is limited to a user linked to the same Nintendo Account on both systems.
This is the appropriate route when your progress is on a Nintendo Switch and you are changing hardware. It is not a way to combine two different profiles, merge chapters, or create a second playable copy. Pick the exact user and software save you want before starting.
Cloud backup to Switch 2
Nintendo Switch Online members can use Save Data Cloud when the software supports it. Nintendo’s support guidance says to verify support in the game’s eShop Software Details or in the game’s Software Menu Options. The UK listing for the Switch 2 edition displays Save Data Cloud support, but availability and labels can vary by region, so confirm the option on your own consoles before depending on it.
Cloud storage is different from nearby transfer. It can provide a recovery point, but it requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and a supported title. A Nintendo Account alone does not guarantee that a particular game save is backed up.
PlayStation, Xbox or PC save to Switch 2
The official materials available for this release do not confirm a cross-platform import from PlayStation, Xbox or PC. Treat such a transfer as unsupported or unconfirmed unless Square Enix publishes specific instructions for the Switch 2 edition. A Nintendo account link or a cloud subscription does not, by itself, establish cross-platform compatibility.
Prepare both consoles for a nearby transfer
Required conditions
- Update the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 system software before starting.
- Connect both consoles to the internet and keep them close together during the operation.
- Create or confirm a user linked to the same Nintendo Account on each console. Nintendo restricts the transfer to users linked to the same account.
- Have the target console charged or connected to power so it does not shut down during the transfer.
- Close the game on the source console and make sure you are transferring the intended user and save.
Nintendo Switch Online is not required for this nearby-console feature. It is required for Save Data Cloud, which is a different service. You therefore do not need to buy a subscription merely to move a compatible save directly between consoles.

Protect the target save first
Check whether the Switch 2 already contains a FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE save. Nintendo gives you the choice to cancel or overwrite an existing target save when the same software is detected. An overwrite permanently replaces the target data; Nintendo says overwritten data cannot be recovered. If the target has progress you might need, stop and preserve it before accepting the transfer.
Do not assume that transferring a different user will protect the existing target data. The save belongs to the selected user, so first identify who owns the progress on each console. If a supported cloud backup is available, verify that its backup date is current before you use a destructive move. Otherwise, launch the target game and record what progress is there before deciding whether replacement is safe.
Move a Switch save with Nintendo’s Transfer Your Save Data flow
1. Start on the source Nintendo Switch
- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Transfer Your Save Data.
- Select Send Save Data to Another Console.
- When asked for the target system type, select the option that matches the Nintendo Switch 2.
- Choose the user profile linked to the Nintendo Account you also use on the target.
- Select the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE save file, then start the send operation.
Nintendo documents this source-side sequence in its nearby save-data transfer guide. Keep the source console awake and nearby while it searches for the receiving system. If several users appear, slow down at this point: selecting the wrong profile sends that profile’s save, not the save you intended.
2. Receive on the Nintendo Switch 2
- On the Switch 2 HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Transfer Your Save Data.
- Select Receive Save Data.
- Follow the on-screen prompt to select the sending console and accept the incoming save.
- If the console warns that a save already exists for the software, choose cancel unless you have deliberately checked the target data and want it replaced.
Nintendo’s receiving-console instructions are part of the same support flow. When the transfer finishes, launch the game on Switch 2 and select the receiving user’s profile. If the save is not listed, close and reopen the software, then verify that you selected the correct user during the send step.
Let the system finish its confirmation screens before opening the game. Interrupting a transfer, putting either console to sleep, or moving one out of range can leave you unsure whether the operation completed. If the consoles lose contact, return to the transfer menu and follow Nintendo’s prompts again rather than deleting files manually.
3. Understand what the transfer changes
This is a move, not a backup. Nintendo states that the operation “does not create a copy” and that the save file is deleted from the source system after it is sent. Once the transfer completes, the source console will no longer have that save available. The target receives the transferred data, subject to the overwrite decision you made during setup.
Because the source deletion is part of the design, do not use this flow as a way to duplicate progress on two consoles. If you need a fallback, confirm a supported Save Data Cloud backup before moving the save, or keep a separate console that has not yet been used as the source. Verify the target’s chapters, party progress and other recognizable details before you reset, sell or lend the old Switch.

Use Save Data Cloud instead of a direct move
Confirm that the game supports cloud backup
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for Save Data Cloud. On each console, open the game’s eShop Software Details or its Software Menu Options and look for the cloud-backup support indicator. Nintendo’s identification guidance is available at its Save Data Cloud support page.
Nintendo’s UK product page for the Switch 2 edition shows Save Data Cloud support: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. That listing is specific to the UK and gives a January 22, 2026 release date; regional availability and release-date formatting can differ.
Seeing cloud support on a product page is useful, but check your own region and software menu before relying on it. Store pages, menu wording and availability can differ. If the indicator is absent on your console, do not assume that a subscription will make the option appear.
When cloud is the better choice
- Use cloud storage when the original console is unavailable but you can sign in to the same Nintendo Account on Switch 2.
- Use it as a recovery option when you want a backup before a destructive nearby transfer.
- Use it when you need to restore a supported Nintendo save after replacing hardware.
- Do not assume a cloud subscription converts a PlayStation, Xbox or PC save; the service stores compatible Nintendo software saves only.
The exact upload and download prompts can differ by system software and region. After confirming support and membership, use the cloud controls shown for the game on the source and target consoles, and verify the backup date before restoring it. If the game does not display cloud support in your region, use the nearby-console procedure instead.
Cloud restoration can replace the local progress on the target, so compare dates and progress carefully. If the target contains newer play than the cloud copy, do not download blindly. Keep the newest known version and use the direct transfer route when both consoles are available.

Demo carryover is a game feature, not a console transfer
What Square Enix confirms
Square Enix explicitly confirms that progress made in the free FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE demo can be carried into the full game. The statement appears in the publisher’s January 23, 2026 release announcement at finalfantasy.com/news/2800. The publisher’s separate notice is at jp.square-enix.com/topics/detail/3816.
This means the demo-to-full path concerns a save already recognized by the game on the same Switch 2 environment. It does not describe moving a demo save from one console to another, and it does not establish compatibility with saves made on other platforms.

The full release must be the matching Switch 2 edition for the carryover described by Square Enix. The announcement does not promise that a demo save can be exported as a universal file, attached to a Square Enix account, or imported into a PlayStation, Xbox or PC edition.
What is not documented
Square Enix does not provide a published, button-by-button in-game procedure in those announcements. Therefore, there is no verified menu path to reproduce here. If a prompt appears when you first launch the full game, accept it only after checking that the displayed user and save correspond to your demo progress. If no prompt appears, do not delete the demo or its save while troubleshooting; first confirm the demo remains installed and that you are using the same user profile.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not confuse the game prompt with Nintendo’s system menu. Transfer Your Save Data moves a save between consoles; it does not trigger the demo-to-full handoff. Conversely, launching the full game on the same console is not a substitute for Nintendo’s console transfer when the save is still on another Switch.
Compare the available routes
| Route | What moves | Requirements | Data-loss behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demo to full game | Compatible demo progress into the full Switch 2 game | Demo and full game on the Switch 2 environment; follow the game’s own prompt | Square Enix confirms carryover but does not document source deletion or an in-game sequence |
| Nearby console transfer | An existing compatible Nintendo Switch save to Switch 2 | Both consoles updated, online and nearby; same Nintendo Account-linked user | Sent save is deleted from the source; an existing target save can be overwritten and cannot be recovered |
| Save Data Cloud | A supported Nintendo save stored online | Nintendo Switch Online and cloud support confirmed for the software and region | Restore behavior follows the cloud prompts; verify the backup date before replacing local progress |
| Cross-platform import | PlayStation, Xbox or PC save | No official Switch 2 import instructions established | Unconfirmed; do not erase another platform’s save expecting it to transfer |
The practical choice is straightforward: use the full game’s carryover prompt for demo progress, nearby transfer for a compatible save on another Nintendo console, and cloud only after confirming membership and title support. The routes are not interchangeable and have different failure consequences.

The consoles cannot find each other
- Install pending system updates on both systems.
- Confirm both consoles are connected to the internet and physically close together.
- Exit the game and restart the transfer from System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data.
- Make sure one console is in Send Save Data to Another Console and the other is in Receive Save Data; starting both in the same mode will not work.
- Keep both systems awake and powered while the search and transfer are running.
The game save does not appear in the source list
- Check that you selected the Nintendo user who actually played the game.
- Verify that the save belongs to the compatible Switch edition you intend to run on Switch 2.
- Return to the HOME Menu, launch the game once with that user, close it normally, and retry the system transfer.
- Check that the save was not already moved or replaced by an earlier transfer.
The launch-and-close step simply refreshes the software’s local save registration; it does not create a new save or bypass compatibility rules. If the save still does not appear, stop rather than selecting a different profile at random.
The target asks to overwrite an existing save
Cancel unless you have inspected the target progress and intentionally chosen replacement. Nintendo warns that overwritten data cannot be recovered. If the target save matters, preserve it through a supported cloud backup first, or use a different target user only when that user is genuinely the owner of the progress; do not switch users merely to evade the warning.

The demo carryover prompt is missing
- Confirm you launched the full game on Switch 2 with the same user that played the demo.
- Check that the demo save still exists on the console.
- Confirm that both titles are the Switch 2 versions of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE.
- Close and relaunch the full game after checking the user profile.
- Consult Square Enix support for a title-specific resolution, because the published announcements do not specify a manual import menu.
The cloud option is unavailable
Confirm that the Nintendo Account has Nintendo Switch Online, then check the game’s eShop details and Software Menu Options. If support is not shown in your region, the cloud route may not be available for that installation. In that case, use the nearby-console method while both systems are present, and remember that it still deletes the sent source save.

You expected a PlayStation, Xbox or PC save to work
There is no confirmed import path in the cited release information. Do not delete the original cross-platform save, purchase a subscription, or reset a console on the assumption that an account link will convert it. Wait for specific Square Enix instructions if cross-platform support is announced later.
Safest order of operations
- Decide whether you are carrying demo progress into the full game or moving a console save; these are separate systems.
- On a console move, verify the same Nintendo Account-linked user on both systems and check the target for existing progress.
- If available, confirm a current Save Data Cloud backup before using the destructive nearby transfer.
- Run the source and target transfer menus exactly as labeled by Nintendo.
- Accept an overwrite only after confirming that the target progress is disposable or safely backed up.
- Launch the game on Switch 2 and verify the chapter, characters and other progress you expect before changing or deleting anything on the old console.
For most owners with the old Switch beside them, Nintendo’s nearby transfer is the direct answer. For demo players, install the full game and use the carryover behavior Square Enix confirms. For cloud users, verify Nintendo Switch Online and regional cloud support first. No official source currently promises a PlayStation, Xbox or PC save import.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer the free FF7 Remake Intergrade demo save to the full Switch 2 game?
Yes. Square Enix says demo save data can carry over to the full game. The announcement does not publish a button-by-button menu path, so launch the matching full Switch 2 release with the same user and follow the prompt it displays.
How do I move my Nintendo Switch save to Switch 2?
On the old console, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console. On Switch 2, open the same area and choose Receive Save Data. Both systems must be updated, online, nearby and using users linked to the same Nintendo Account.
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online for a nearby save transfer?
No. Nintendo says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for nearby-console transfer. The membership is required for Save Data Cloud.
Does Nintendo’s transfer copy the save to both consoles?
No. It moves the save and deletes the sent file from the source console after completion. It is not a duplication tool.
What happens if Switch 2 already has an FF7 Remake save?
You can cancel or accept an overwrite. Cancel unless you have checked the target data and intentionally want it replaced; Nintendo says overwritten data cannot be recovered.

Does FF7 Remake Intergrade support Save Data Cloud?
Nintendo’s UK Switch 2 listing displays Save Data Cloud support, but confirm the indicator in your own region’s eShop Software Details or the game’s Software Menu Options before relying on it.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Demo progress carries into the full Switch 2 game through the game’s own carryover feature. A compatible Nintendo Switch save moves through Nintendo’s nearby Transfer Your Save Data menus, which require internet access and the same Nintendo Account-linked user but do not require Nintendo Switch Online. The move deletes the source save, and an overwrite on the target cannot be recovered. Cloud restoration is a separate Nintendo Switch Online option, while PlayStation, Xbox and PC imports remain unconfirmed.
