“Everything” does not mean a perfect clone. OnePlus excludes some security information, hardware-bound data, and incompatible apps or data. Keep the old phone and an independent backup until you have checked important content on the new device.

Choose the transfer route that matches your old phone
The correct method depends on the platform of the source phone and the options shown by Clone Phone on your particular OxygenOS version. OnePlus does not publish a universal model-by-model compatibility or speed table, so treat the labels and supported categories on your devices as authoritative.

Prepare both phones before moving data
A transfer is easier to recover when the old phone remains intact. Do these checks before opening Clone Phone:

- Keep both phones available until the new one has been inspected. Do not factory-reset, trade in, or give away the old phone first.
- Charge both batteries sufficiently for the expected transfer. A large photo or video library can take a long time.
- Unlock the old phone and make sure you know its screen lock, Google account or Apple ID credentials, and any app sign-in details you will need afterward.
- Install or update Clone Phone when the app prompts you. Older OnePlus Switch installations may direct you to download Clone Phone through the QR-code flow on the new phone.
- Keep the phones close together. OnePlus community guidance from September 4, 2024 recommends leaving Wi-Fi enabled on the old phone and the hotspot enabled on the new phone during the wireless session.
- Check free storage on the new phone. If the selected photos, videos, downloads and documents exceed available space, deselect categories or free space before starting.
- Make a separate backup of irreplaceable photos, documents and other important files. Clone Phone is a migration tool, not a guarantee that every protected or incompatible item will be reproduced.
Transfer from an old OnePlus or Android phone with Clone Phone
The wording differs slightly between models and software releases. OnePlus manuals use I’m a new phone and I’m an old phone; newer instructions may say This is the new device and This is the old device. Choose the equivalent label shown on your screen.
- Open Clone Phone on the new OnePlus. If the app is not already visible, use the phone’s app search or setup prompts to open it.
- Identify the new device. Tap I’m a new phone or This is the new device.
- Choose the source platform or phone type. Select OnePlus, Android, or the closest option offered for the old device, then continue.
- Open Clone Phone on the old phone. Tap I’m an old phone or This is the old device. If the old phone has an older OnePlus Switch app, follow the prompt to obtain Clone Phone.
- Scan the QR code. The new OnePlus displays a QR code for pairing. Use the old phone’s scanner in Clone Phone to scan it. Keep the phones near each other while the connection is established.
- Review the selectable categories. Select only what you want to move, or select all available categories if the new phone has enough storage. The list can vary by model and software.
- Start the migration. Confirm the selection and tap the start or transfer control. Leave both phones unlocked, nearby and undisturbed.
- Wait for completion. Do not disconnect, close Clone Phone or restart either phone until the app reports that the transfer is finished. Large media libraries take longer than contacts or messages.
- Finish on the new phone. Open the transferred content and sign in to apps that request authentication. Keep the old phone untouched while you verify the results.
What Clone Phone can offer for selection
OnePlus’s transfer overview names these categories: contacts, call history, messages, photos, audio tracks, videos, notes, apps, downloads and documents. Your device may present a different subset or divide categories into more detailed choices.

The category list is a selection interface, not a promise that every item inside a category is transferable. Protected records, hardware-linked credentials and data an app stores in an incompatible format can be omitted.
Move data from an iPhone to a new OnePlus
OnePlus’s published iPhone procedure starts with iCloud. The iPhone must synchronize the data you want available to Clone Phone before the OnePlus can use it.

- Sync the iPhone first. On the iPhone, sign in to iCloud and enable synchronization for the relevant information, such as contacts and photos. Wait for the sync to complete while connected to power and a reliable network.
- Open Clone Phone on the new OnePlus. Choose I’m a new phone or This is the new device, then select iPhone as the old device.
- Follow the on-screen iCloud prompts. Provide the requested Apple account authentication and permit access to the synchronized categories.
- Choose what to bring over. Select the categories Clone Phone offers, then start the migration and wait for the completion message.
- Check the result. Confirm contacts, photos and other selected content on the OnePlus. Items that were never synchronized to iCloud cannot be expected to appear through this route.
Apple account security checks, iCloud storage limits and the categories available to Clone Phone can affect this process. If a prompt differs from these labels, follow the current instructions shown by the app rather than forcing an older menu path.
Use a USB cable when the phones support it
OnePlus documents connecting the phones with a USB cable as an alternative to wireless pairing. The company does not state a universal connector type, data standard, included-cable policy or model compatibility in the cited instructions. Check the ports and the Clone Phone prompts for both exact models before buying or borrowing a cable.

- Open Clone Phone on the new phone and select the new-device option.
- Choose the old phone type and select the cable method if it is offered.
- Connect the phones with a cable that supports data, not only charging.
- Accept any permission or USB-mode prompts on either phone.
- Select categories, start the transfer and keep the cable connected until completion.
A cable can be useful when wireless pairing is unstable, but it does not remove the migration limits. Security data, hardware-bound records and incompatible app data may still be excluded.

Cloud backup and restore in OnePlus menus
Some OnePlus instructions include a cloud-backup path in addition to direct phone-to-phone migration. The published Ireland menu sequence is Settings > System settings > Back up and reset > Back up & migrate > Cloud backup. After creating the backup, the documented restore route is Clone Phone > This is the new device > Cloud backup.

OxygenOS versions and regions can rename or relocate these entries. If your menus differ, use Settings search for “backup” or “Clone Phone,” and read the options presented by the current software. Cloud restore is useful when the old phone is not immediately beside the new one, but it still depends on what the backup service and Clone Phone support.
What will not be copied perfectly
OnePlus explicitly warns that some information cannot migrate. The practical boundary is important because a successful completion screen does not prove that the new phone is an exact duplicate.
- Security information: face-recognition and fingerprint registrations are tied to the device’s secure hardware. Set them up again in the new phone’s security settings.
- Hardware-bound information: records tied to a particular device, such as transit-card data, may not be transferable.
- Incompatible apps or data: an app can be unavailable for the new device or fail to restore its private data. Install its current version and use the app’s own account or backup process when prompted.
- Version differences: OnePlus community guidance dated September 4, 2024 notes that an app may not work properly when the new phone runs an older system version than the old phone. Update the new phone and the app before concluding that the migration failed.
- Destination changes: the same guidance says calls, messages, contacts and media files merge with the new device, while other data may overwrite destination data. Review the new phone before repeating a transfer or restoring another backup.
Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer
The QR code will not pair
- Confirm that Clone Phone is open on both phones and that the new-device screen is displaying a current QR code.
- Move the phones closer, unlock the old phone and retry the scan from inside Clone Phone rather than the regular camera app.
- Follow the app’s permission prompts. Re-enable Wi-Fi on the old phone and hotspot on the new phone if either was disabled.
- Restart Clone Phone on both devices and generate a new pairing session. Do not erase any data from the old phone while troubleshooting.
The transfer stops partway through
- Charge both phones and keep them close together. Avoid switching apps or allowing either phone to sleep during the session.
- Check free storage on the new phone, especially when videos, downloads and documents are selected.
- Retry with smaller groups of categories to identify whether one large or incompatible item is blocking the session.
- For a supported cable route, reconnect with a known data-capable cable and accept the USB permission prompt.
An app or file is missing afterward
- Compare the selected categories with the content you expected; Clone Phone can transfer only what its current list exposes.
- Update OxygenOS and the affected app. OnePlus warns that an older system version on the new phone can cause app problems.
- Open the app and use its own sign-in, restore or cloud-backup function. Private app data and security credentials are common exclusions from phone-level migration.
- Restore the missing file from your separate backup rather than repeatedly overwriting the new phone with uncertain transfer attempts.
Verify the new OnePlus before wiping the old one
Use a deliberate checklist while both phones are still in your possession:

- Search contacts by several names and place a test call if appropriate.
- Open recent and older message threads and inspect call history.
- Browse recent photos, older albums, videos and a few large files.
- Inspect Downloads and Documents with the file manager.
- Launch essential apps, complete sign-in, and confirm that their account data is present.
- Re-enroll fingerprints and face recognition, and re-add other device-specific security settings.
- Check that the new phone has enough storage and that ordinary calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and notifications work.
- Create or confirm a backup from the new phone after the inspection.
Only after these checks should you factory-reset, trade in or permanently retire the old OnePlus. Keeping it available is the safest recovery option when a protected record or an app’s private data was not transferable.
Important limitations of the published instructions
The central Clone Phone workflow is documented by OnePlus, but interface text, supported categories, regional availability and software requirements can change. The available materials do not establish a universal cable specification, transfer-speed comparison or model-by-model compatibility matrix. For a model-specific issue, use the labels and warnings in the current Clone Phone app and the instructions for your exact OnePlus models.
