The safest way to move data to a Galaxy Z Flip7 is Samsung Smart Switch. It can copy personal data from another Android phone wirelessly or by cable, and it offers both cable and iCloud-import routes for an iPhone or iPad. You can run Smart Switch during initial setup or later from Settings.
The correct method depends on the old phone’s operating system, its connector, and whether you need both phones available for charging during a long transfer. Smart Switch will show the categories available from your particular source device; do not assume that every app, password, or account detail will move.

Choose the transfer method before you begin
Use this decision guide to avoid buying the wrong cable or resetting a phone unnecessarily.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Old phone | Available route | What you need | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android | Wireless Smart Switch | Both phones, Smart Switch, nearby chargers | Keep the phones close; Samsung’s general guidance says within 4 inches during wireless setup. |
| Compatible USB-C Android | Wired Smart Switch | A USB-C-to-USB-C data cable | The cable must support data, not only charging. Other Android connectors may require a different cable or adapter. |
| iPhone or iPad | Wired Smart Switch | A compatible Lightning-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-USB-C data cable | You must approve the trust prompt on the Apple device if it appears. |
| iPhone or iPad | iCloud import in Smart Switch | Apple Account credentials and internet access | This is an alternative when you do not want to connect the phones directly. |
Samsung describes wireless transfer as its preferred way to copy data in its Smart Switch guidance, but that does not mean it is always faster or supports more categories than a cable. A direct cable can be more practical when the wireless connection is difficult or when compatible hardware is already available.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Prepare both phones
Keep the old phone usable and unlocked
Do not erase, trade in, or sign out of the old phone until you have checked the Z Flip7. Keep the old phone unlocked nearby because Smart Switch may ask you to approve a connection or enter a device permission.
Charge the devices
For wireless transfers, Samsung recommends charging both phones while they work. A large photo and video library can take a long time, and letting either phone shut down interrupts the process. Samsung’s general cable guidance recommends at least 20% battery before starting a wired transfer.
Check storage and software
Install or update Smart Switch on the old phone if it is not already present. On the Z Flip7, open Settings and search for Smart Switch if you did not launch it during setup. Make sure the Z Flip7 has enough free storage for the material you intend to copy. Smart Switch will show the categories it can detect; use that list as the practical compatibility check for your specific model.
Choose the right cable, if using one
A compatible USB-C Android phone generally uses a USB-C-to-USB-C data cable. An older Android phone may use another connector and need an adapter. An iPhone may require a Lightning-to-USB-C cable, while newer iPhone models can use USB-C-to-USB-C. Verify both ends and confirm that the cable carries data. A charging-only cable will not establish the transfer connection.

- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Turn off iMessage when moving from iPhone
Samsung’s iPhone instructions recommend turning off iMessage before moving from an iPhone if you want all text messages to arrive in the Android messaging app. Otherwise, messages still addressed through Apple’s service may not appear as expected on the Z Flip7.
Transfer from an Android phone wirelessly
This route leaves both phones free of a physical connection and allows them to remain on chargers. Use it when the old Android phone and the Z Flip7 can establish the Smart Switch wireless link.
- Open Smart Switch on both phones. On the Z Flip7, find it through Settings if necessary.
- On the Z Flip7, choose Receive on this phone, select Galaxy/Android, and choose Wireless.
- On the old phone, choose Send from this phone, then Wireless.
- Follow the connection prompt shown on the phones. Keep them close together; Samsung’s general instructions recommend a distance of no more than 4 inches while establishing the wireless transfer.
- When the Z Flip7 displays the available categories, review them rather than accepting every item automatically. Select the contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, music, messages, call logs, bookmarks, settings, apps, or app data that are actually offered.
- Start the transfer and leave both phones nearby and powered. Avoid opening other transfer or backup tools until Smart Switch reports completion.
The selection screen is important because the list is generated from the connected model. Samsung states that supported items can vary by device, so the categories shown on your phones take precedence over a generic list.

A wired transfer is useful when the old phone has a compatible data connector and you want a direct link. The connector requirement is not universal: USB-C-to-USB-C applies to compatible USB-C Android phones, while older phones may need a different cable or adapter.

- Connect the old Android phone to the Z Flip7 with the compatible data cable. If an adapter is required, connect it firmly and use an adapter that supports data.
- Open Smart Switch. On the old phone, select Send from this phone. On the Z Flip7, select Receive on this phone, choose Galaxy/Android, and choose Cable.
- Authorize the connection on the old phone if Android displays a USB or data-access prompt.
- Wait for Smart Switch to scan the old phone. Review the detected categories and deselect anything you do not want to copy.
- Start the transfer. Keep the cable connected and avoid moving either phone until the completion message appears.
If the Z Flip7 does not detect the old phone, reconnect both ends, unlock the source phone, and answer any USB permission prompt. A cable that charges but lacks data wiring is a common cause of failure. Samsung’s UK support guidance also identifies device compatibility, available free space, and Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) support as checks when an Android connection does not work; verify those points for the particular old phone before trying another cable.
Transfer from an iPhone or iPad by cable
Samsung supports a direct Apple-device transfer through Smart Switch. This can bring over many personal categories, but it does not turn iOS apps into Android apps and it does not copy Apple Keychain passwords.
- Connect the iPhone or iPad to the Z Flip7 with a compatible Lightning-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-USB-C data cable.
- Open Smart Switch on the Z Flip7 and select the option for receiving data from an iPhone/iPad.
- Unlock the Apple device. If it asks whether to trust the connected computer or device, tap Trust and enter the device passcode.
- Allow Smart Switch to scan the Apple device, then review the categories it offers.
- Select the content to copy and start the transfer. Leave both devices connected until Smart Switch finishes.
Turn off iMessage on the iPhone before starting if you need all text messages moved. Apple’s built-in apps can be downloaded again from Google Play where an Android version exists, but the iOS app package itself is not transferred. App-specific data, subscriptions, or sign-in status can also depend on the app’s own service.

The iCloud route is useful when a direct cable is unavailable or you prefer to retrieve backed-up content through the Z Flip7. It requires the Apple Account used for the relevant iCloud data and any verification Apple requests.

- Open Smart Switch on the Z Flip7 and choose to receive data from an iPhone/iPad.
- Select Get data from iCloud instead.
- Sign in with the Apple Account associated with the iCloud information you want to import.
- Complete two-factor or other verification prompts if Apple presents them.
- Review the content Smart Switch can access, select the categories you want, and begin the import.
- Keep the Z Flip7 connected to power and on a reliable internet connection until the import completes.
The iCloud path depends on what is available in the account and what Smart Switch supports for that connection. It is not a complete clone of an iPhone, and Apple Keychain passwords are specifically excluded from Smart Switch transfers.
What Smart Switch can move—and what it cannot promise
Samsung’s Z Flip7 instructions list examples that may include contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, music, text messages, call logs, internet bookmarks, settings, and apps with their data. These are examples, not a guarantee that every category will be offered from every old-phone model.
| Content | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Contacts and calendar | Usually offered when stored in a supported account or on the source device; confirm the categories shown before starting. |
| Photos, videos, and music | Can be selected when Smart Switch detects them. Confirm that the Z Flip7 has enough space. |
| Text messages and call logs | May be available from Android. For iPhone, turn off iMessage if you want all text messages transferred. |
| Apps | Smart Switch may identify apps and some app data, but iOS apps are not copied as Android apps and app-specific data is not guaranteed. |
| Passwords and Apple Keychain | Apple passwords and Keychain data do not transfer through Smart Switch. Plan to sign in or use the service’s own recovery method. |
| Accounts | Account transfer has a special setup-state limitation described below; ordinary personal files can still be moved after setup. |
Do not promise that every protected, licensed, or app-internal item will move. Review the actual selection screen, then retain the old phone until you have opened the important files and services on the Z Flip7.
If the Galaxy Z Flip7 is already set up
You do not have to erase the Z Flip7 merely because you skipped migration during the first startup. Samsung says Smart Switch can still transfer personal data after manual setup.

Apply even pressure for a few seconds to allow the suction cup to adhere properly. To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.
There is a narrower account-related distinction: Samsung says transferring accounts through Smart Switch after the Z Flip7 has already been set up requires a factory data reset to use the quick-setup flow. If you do not want to reset the phone, add accounts manually through Settings and then use Smart Switch for the personal data it offers. This is not a blanket requirement to factory-reset the phone for photos, contacts, messages, or other ordinary files.
If you are considering a reset, back up anything already created on the Z Flip7 and confirm that you know the screen-lock and account credentials needed after the reset. A reset deletes local data; it should be a deliberate choice for the account setup path, not a routine troubleshooting step.
Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer
Smart Switch cannot find the old phone wirelessly
- Unlock both phones and reopen Smart Switch.
- Keep the phones within the recommended 4-inch distance while they pair.
- Move away from heavy wireless interference and keep both phones charged.
- Cancel any competing phone-to-phone transfer or hotspot session, then try the connection again.
The cable connection is not detected
- Check that both phones are unlocked and that the old phone accepted the USB permission prompt.
- Try another known data cable; charging alone does not prove that a cable supports transfer.
- Confirm the connector and adapter match the source phone. A USB-C-to-USB-C cable is not suitable for every Android model.
- Check the old phone’s MTP/data-transfer support and the Z Flip7’s available storage.
The transfer stops partway through
- Reconnect both phones to power, restart Smart Switch, and retry only the missing categories if the app allows a selective transfer.
- Free storage on the Z Flip7 if the scan found more content than expected.
- Keep the old phone awake and nearby for wireless transfers; do not disconnect a cable during the scan or copy stage.
Messages or passwords are missing
For an iPhone source, verify that iMessage was disabled before the migration. Passwords and Apple Keychain data are not transferred through Smart Switch, so recover those credentials through the relevant account or password manager. For app data, check the app’s own backup and sign-in options instead of assuming Smart Switch can recreate its internal state.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Verify the Z Flip7 before erasing the old phone
- Open the Contacts and Calendar apps and check several recent and older entries.
- Browse the Gallery for photos and videos from different dates, including items stored in albums.
- Open Messages and inspect important conversations; confirm the expected text-message route was used if the source was an iPhone.
- Check call history, bookmarks, music, and downloaded files that you selected.
- Launch critical apps and sign in again where required. Confirm that two-factor authentication methods still work.
- Only after these checks should you factory-reset, trade in, or give away the old phone.
Which route should you use?
| Priority | Best starting choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You want the simplest Android setup and both phones can stay close | Android wireless | No connector decision; both phones can remain on chargers. |
| You already have a compatible data cable | Android cable | Direct connection and no wireless pairing distance to maintain. |
| You are moving from an iPhone and want a direct copy | iPhone cable | Smart Switch can scan the Apple device after you approve the trust prompt. |
| You cannot or do not want to connect the iPhone physically | iCloud import | Retrieves supported backed-up content through the Apple Account. |
There is no universal winner: the source platform, connector, battery situation, and categories Smart Switch detects determine the practical choice. Start with the route that matches those conditions, inspect the offered content, and keep the old phone until verification is complete.
