You can move data to a Motorola Razr Ultra during setup from an Android phone or iPhone. Android users can copy from the old phone or a Google account backup; iPhone users can use a cable for locally stored data or Motorola’s iCloud migration option for selected synced data. Keep both phones charged and unlocked, and check important app data before wiping the old phone.
Choose the transfer method that fits your old phone
| Old phone or data source | Transfer route | Cable needed? | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android phone or Google account backup | Copy data during setup, or resume setup afterward | No specific cable is required by the documented route | Data on a working Android phone or an associated Google backup |
| iPhone | Connect the phones during the Motorola transfer flow | Yes; match the cable to the iPhone connector and use a data-capable cable | Content stored locally on the iPhone |
| iCloud-synced iPhone data | Use Motorola’s iCloud migration option, if available on your software version | No phone-to-phone cable | Selected data already synced to iCloud |
The exact menu labels can vary across Razr generations and software versions. Follow the prompts shown on your phone if they differ from the paths below.

Transfer data from an Android phone
During Razr Ultra setup
- Turn on the Razr Ultra and connect it to Wi-Fi.
- When prompted to copy apps and data, choose the option to copy from your old Android phone or restore from a Google account backup.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect or select the backup, then choose what to copy.
- Leave both phones charged and unlocked while the transfer runs. Motorola advises using the same Wi-Fi network for Android migration.
Motorola says its Android copy flow can include apps, music, contacts, messages, photos and videos, Google accounts, multimedia-message attachments, most settings, wallpaper and call history. Some content may not copy, including PDFs and other downloads, apps installed outside Google Play, non-Google accounts, some third-party contacts or calendars, and ringtones. Check important files and app-specific backups separately. Motorola’s Razr data-copy help lists these categories.

Transfer data from an iPhone with a cable
Prepare both phones
- Charge both phones. Motorola’s Razr help advises keeping each above 30% battery and leaving both unlocked during its iPhone migration instructions.
- Turn off iMessage and FaceTime on the iPhone if following Motorola’s iOS-transfer guidance.
- Identify the iPhone’s charging connector before choosing a cable. Use a cable that supports data transfer; a cable that only charges is not sufficient.
Motorola says, “A USB-C® cable is required. For some old iPhones, you may need a lightning to USB-C cable.” Its iOS-transfer instructions specify USB-C PD and note that some older iPhones need a Lightning-to-USB-C PD cable. Do not assume USB-C-to-USB-C will fit every iPhone. See Motorola’s iOS transfer guidance.
Run the wired transfer
- Start the Razr Ultra setup or transfer flow and choose iPhone or iPad when asked for the old phone type.
- Connect the iPhone and Razr Ultra using the suitable cable.
- If the iPhone asks whether to trust the connected device, confirm and follow the Motorola prompts.
- Select the content you want to transfer and keep the iPhone unlocked until the process finishes.
Large transfers may take several hours, according to Motorola; the duration depends on the amount of data and Motorola does not provide a fixed time in the cited guidance.

Use iCloud if you cannot transfer by cable
Motorola documents an iCloud route for selected data on some Razr software versions. First, confirm that the contacts, calendars, reminders, notes and photos you want are synced to iCloud. This route does not retrieve files simply because they exist somewhere on the iPhone; the items need to be available through the relevant iCloud sync.
Recommended Free Tools
- On the Razr, open Settings > System > Get iOS data, if that option appears.
- Sign in to iCloud and enter the verification code when prompted.
- Choose the data types to migrate and start the transfer. Motorola notes that data can be migrated in separate batches.
- Use a strong Wi-Fi connection and keep the Motorola phone charged or plugged in while it works.
The menu name may differ by Razr generation or software version. Motorola’s Razr help page describes this iCloud route. If photos are already in Google Photos, signing in to the same Google account on the Razr can sync them from there instead.

Know what may not transfer
Moving phones does not guarantee that every app, file or account state will move. Motorola’s iPhone migration guidance and Razr help identify these limitations:
- iPhone cable migration: some app data, files stored in iCloud and DRM-protected music may not transfer. The cable route moves photos and videos physically stored on the iPhone; iCloud-backed photos need a cloud route. iPhone Live Photos become static photos in the described migration.
- Other iPhone items: Motorola lists FaceTime calls and voice-call history, iMessage effects, emergency alert messages, locked Notes and the default wallpaper as items that will not transfer through the described route.
- Android migration: PDFs and other downloads, apps outside the Play Store, non-Google accounts, some third-party contacts or calendars, and ringtones may be left behind.
Before erasing or trading in the old phone, verify critical files, chat histories, authenticator access and app-specific backups directly with the relevant services. The Motorola iOS transfer page and Razr help page describe the listed exclusions.
