Use Samsung Smart Switch on your Galaxy to bring over iPhone content, choosing a cable or a supported wireless/iCloud route. If WhatsApp history matters, handle its separate cable-based migration before signing in to WhatsApp on the Galaxy. Turn off iMessage and FaceTime, then check your photos and chats on the new phone before erasing or trading in the iPhone.
Choose the transfer route that fits your priorities
Smart Switch is Samsung’s official starting point, but the content available depends on the route, device, and software. A wired connection supports a broader set of the iOS categories Samsung lists and is the route to use for WhatsApp history. Wireless transfer through iCloud can work for supported content, but Samsung warns that some data may not transfer this way. Check Samsung’s route-specific Smart Switch content list before choosing.

Samsung’s iPhone-to-Galaxy switching guide describes the setup steps and notes that transfer availability varies. Do not treat Smart Switch as a guaranteed full clone of the iPhone.
What can transfer—and what may not
Photos, videos, and other personal content
Samsung’s content guide lists photos and videos among the supported categories for cable and iCloud routes. It also lists items such as contacts, calendar, notes, call history, and bookmarks, though the categories differ by route. For example, Samsung lists messages and music in its cable categories, with restrictions, but not in its iCloud list. The guide says iCloud transfer can include DRM-free videos, documents, voice memos, Wi-Fi information, and alarms. Supported items can depend on the connected device.

Passwords, apps, synced accounts, and protected media
- Apple Keychain passwords do not transfer through Smart Switch. Plan to set up passwords on the Galaxy separately.
- Apple-owned apps do not move as installed apps. If an Android version is available, download it again; Samsung gives Apple Music as an example.
- Some information from synced accounts may appear after you sign in to those accounts on the Galaxy rather than through Smart Switch. Certain external-account and private app data are excluded.
- DRM-protected media may not transfer. Samsung’s US content guide says its described music transfer restrictions allow only music purchased from iTunes after 2009; do not assume every purchased or protected track will move.

Prepare both phones
- Charge the iPhone and Galaxy, keep the iPhone unlocked and available, and update it as appropriate.
- Check the ports on both phones before connecting them. Depending on the iPhone and Galaxy, you may need a compatible USB-C-to-Lightning cable, USB-C-to-USB-C cable, or an iPhone cable with a USB-OTG adapter. A cable is not required for supported wireless routes.
- If using iCloud, have access to the relevant Apple account and any computer or backup method you need. Samsung’s US guide includes a computer for iTunes or iCloud among preparation options.
- Back up iMessage media or photos first if you need a separate copy of them.
Transfer iPhone data with Smart Switch
- On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch and choose the option to receive data from an iPhone or iPad.
- Choose a wired connection or a supported wireless/iCloud route. Follow the Galaxy’s prompts; if asked, trust the connection on the iPhone.
- Review the content categories shown for your chosen route and select what you want. The available categories are not identical between cable and iCloud transfer.
- Keep both phones available and follow the on-screen instructions until the transfer finishes. Samsung’s steps and menu labels can vary by model and software version.
- Before wiping the iPhone, open the Galaxy’s Gallery and relevant messaging apps. Check a sample of older and newer photos and videos, and confirm that the content you expected has arrived.
Samsung’s US instructions explain the Smart Switch setup and iPhone connection flow. The on-screen list is the practical guide to what that particular transfer can include.

Move WhatsApp chats separately
WhatsApp history has its own migration flow; do not assume it is included just because the main Smart Switch transfer completed. Samsung’s current US instructions describe a cable-based WhatsApp workflow, and Samsung’s regional guides differ in their exact sequence. Follow the prompts for your Galaxy model, software, and market.
- Use the cable connection specified by the prompts. Samsung’s US instructions identify USB-C-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-Lightning according to the iPhone port.
- Start the WhatsApp migration through the Smart Switch flow when prompted. In Samsung Colombia’s instructions, the steps include selecting WhatsApp in Smart Switch and scanning a QR prompt.
- Keep the phones connected by USB throughout the migration. Use the same phone number on WhatsApp on the Galaxy as on the iPhone.
- Do not sign in to WhatsApp on the Galaxy before the migration is complete. Samsung Colombia’s instructions state that the new Galaxy must not already be signed in when migration begins or completes.
- Wait for the completion prompt before opening WhatsApp on the Galaxy and following its setup instructions.

Turn off iMessage and FaceTime
Before you rely on the Galaxy for messages, disable iMessage and FaceTime on the iPhone. Samsung advises this so messages can reach the new phone after switching. Its US guide also recommends backing up iMessage media and photos first if you need to keep them.

Keep the iPhone intact until you have checked the destination. Open Gallery and inspect both recent and older media; check the expected message and WhatsApp conversations; and confirm that any content tied to a synced account appears after signing in. If something is missing, retain the iPhone and consult the route-specific Smart Switch or WhatsApp instructions before trying another transfer. Samsung’s guidance does not promise that every item transfers, so verification is the safest point at which to decide whether the old phone can be erased.
