How to Transfer Data from an Old Phone to a OnePlus or Samsung Galaxy

The safest method depends on the phone you are setting up: use Samsung Smart Switch when the destination is a Galaxy, and OnePlus Clone Phone when the destination is a OnePlus. Both support wireless and cable-based transfers, but the categories that copy—and whether app data, logins, music, or iCloud content works—depend on the source phone, operating-system versions, model, and connection method.

Start the transfer before erasing the old phone. After it finishes, open the new phone and verify contacts, photos, messages, calendars, files, and your most important apps individually. A transfer can install an app without restoring its private data or signed-in state.

Choose the transfer route first

Identify both the source and destination before connecting anything. The destination determines the manufacturer tool; the source determines which screens, accounts, cables, and compatibility limits you will see.

Destination phone Source phone Primary tool Routes to consider
Samsung Galaxy Android Smart Switch on the Galaxy and old phone Wireless or USB cable; compatible microSD or USB storage can also be used for backup and restore
Samsung Galaxy iPhone Smart Switch on the Galaxy Import from iCloud, or use a wired iPhone transfer
OnePlus Android Clone Phone QR-code wireless transfer, cable transfer, or another route shown by the model
OnePlus iPhone Clone Phone on the OnePlus iCloud import where supported; some OnePlus models also show a cable route

Wireless is convenient and leaves both phones free from a physical connection to a charger. A cable is often preferable for a large transfer, but it may need a data-capable cable, the right connector, or an OTG adapter. The exact labels can differ between phone models and software releases, so follow the prompts displayed on your devices rather than assuming another model has identical menus.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Prepare both phones before moving anything

Preparation prevents the most common failures: a transfer stopping halfway, missing files because the new phone is full, or an old phone being erased before an important account is recovered.

  • Charge both phones. Samsung says to fully charge devices where possible. For a Smart Switch OTG transfer, Samsung’s instructions say the devices should have at least 20% charge before starting.
  • Keep the old phone unlocked and available. You may need its screen lock, Apple ID, Google account, Samsung account, or verification code.
  • Update the migration app if necessary. Install or open Smart Switch on the Android source phone, and install Clone Phone on an older Android phone when OnePlus directs you to do so.
  • Check free space on the new phone. Large photo and video libraries can exceed the destination’s available storage. Delete or archive unwanted material first, or select only the categories you need.
  • Check connectors and package contents. Confirm that a USB cable supports data, not only charging, and identify whether your phones need USB-C, Lightning, or an OTG adapter. Newer Galaxy phones may not include an OTG adapter.
  • Make a list of high-risk apps. Banking apps, authenticators, password managers, work profiles, encrypted messengers, and apps with downloaded offline content often require a separate sign-in, export, or re-registration.
  • Do not reset, trade in, or give away the old phone yet. Keep it intact until the new phone has been checked and you have recovered any two-factor-authentication method needed to access your accounts.

Back up irreplaceable items separately

A manufacturer transfer is not the same as an independent backup. If a photo, recording, document, or message is irreplaceable, keep another copy in the service or computer where you already store it. This is especially important when moving between iOS and Android, where file formats and app databases may not be interchangeable.

Transfer Android data to a Samsung Galaxy

Wireless Smart Switch transfer

  1. On the new Galaxy, open Smart Switch. Samsung says you can find it by searching in Settings or in the Samsung apps folder.
  2. On the old Android phone, install or open Smart Switch. Select Send on the old phone and Receive on the Galaxy.
  3. On the Galaxy, choose Galaxy/Android as the source type, then select Wireless when asked for a connection method.
  4. Place the phones close together. Samsung’s wireless Android instructions specify keeping them within four inches while the connection is established. Leave both phones unlocked and near one another during the scan.
  5. Review the categories Smart Switch finds. Depending on the connected devices, Samsung presents choices such as Everything, a smaller selection of accounts, calls, contacts, and messages, or Custom.
  6. Tap the option that matches your storage and priorities, inspect the item count, and start the transfer. Keep both phones charged and avoid switching away from the transfer screens.
  7. Wait for the completion message, then open the new Galaxy and verify the results before disconnecting or changing the old phone.

Smart Switch’s scan is more useful than a generic time estimate because transfer duration depends on the amount and type of data, the wireless environment, storage speed, and the phones involved. Samsung notes that large multimedia collections can take a while.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Wired Android transfer

  1. Open Smart Switch on the Galaxy and choose Receive, then select the Android source and the cable option.
  2. Connect the phones with a compatible data cable. If the connector combination requires it, insert an OTG adapter on the correct phone before connecting.
  3. Approve any USB, trust, or permission prompts on the old phone.
  4. Wait for Smart Switch to scan the old phone, review the categories, and select the content to copy.
  5. Start the transfer and leave the phones connected until Smart Switch reports completion.

A wired setup can be faster or more stable for a large library, but Samsung warns that the phones may not be able to remain connected to chargers while they are linked. That makes battery preparation important. If the transfer is too large to complete on the available charge, use smaller category selections or a wireless route that lets you keep the phones charging.

Use a microSD card or USB storage with Smart Switch

Samsung also documents backing up Smart Switch data to compatible microSD or USB storage and restoring it to a Galaxy. This is useful when the phones cannot stay connected, when you are setting up more than one Galaxy, or when a direct connection repeatedly fails.

  1. Open Smart Switch on the source Galaxy and choose its backup option.
  2. Select compatible microSD or USB storage as the destination and let the backup finish.
  3. Move the storage to the new Galaxy, connect it with the required adapter, or otherwise make it available to Smart Switch.
  4. Open Smart Switch on the new Galaxy, choose the restore option, select the backup, review the categories, and start the restore.

Storage compatibility and the categories available for restore depend on the phones and software versions. Treat the on-screen list as authoritative.

Transfer iPhone data to a Samsung Galaxy

Import from iCloud

  1. On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch and choose Receive.
  2. Select iPhone/iPad, then choose Get data from iCloud.
  3. Sign in with the Apple account used on the iPhone and complete any verification requested.
  4. Let Smart Switch scan the available iCloud content. Select the categories you want and begin the import.
  5. After the import, check contacts, calendars, photos, messages, and files individually on the Galaxy.

This is not a complete iPhone clone. Content stored only on the iPhone, protected by an app-specific database, or unavailable in a compatible format may not appear. Samsung specifically says that iTunes music and videos cannot be transferred from iCloud. For unencrypted iTunes M4A files, Samsung suggests copying them from a computer instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a cable for an iPhone-to-Galaxy transfer

Smart Switch also offers a wired iPhone path. On the Galaxy, select Receive, choose the iPhone or iPad source, and follow the cable prompts. The cable must support data and must match the iPhone’s connector and the Galaxy’s USB port; an adapter may be required. Approve the trust prompt on the iPhone, keep both devices unlocked, review the scanned categories, and start the transfer.

A cable can expose more locally stored content than an iCloud-only import, but it still does not make incompatible app databases or protected media universally transferable. Use the category list Smart Switch displays rather than assuming that every iPhone item will copy.

Transfer Android data to a OnePlus

Clone Phone wireless transfer

  1. On the new OnePlus, open Clone Phone and select the role for the new phone.
  2. Choose the old-phone type shown on screen. For an Android source, OnePlus may ask you to install Clone Phone on the old device.
  3. Open Clone Phone on the old Android phone, select the old-phone role, and scan the QR code displayed by the new OnePlus. The OnePlus Nord N300 5G manual describes this QR-pairing flow for that model.
  4. Approve the requested permissions on the old phone. Select the data categories to move.
  5. Start the transfer and keep both phones close, unlocked, and in the app until the completion screen appears.

The OnePlus Clone Phone listing updated November 10, 2025 says Android migration can work without a network connection. That means the phones can create the transfer connection themselves; it does not mean that every cloud account, app server, or later sign-in works offline.

Use a cable when Clone Phone offers it

OnePlus documents a cable route as well. Open Clone Phone on the new device, select the new-phone role, choose the cable method if it appears, and connect the old phone with a data-capable cable or the required OTG adapter. Approve USB permissions, let Clone Phone scan, choose categories, and start. Cable availability and menu wording vary by OnePlus model, so use the route shown by the actual device.

Transfer iPhone data to a OnePlus with iCloud

  1. On the new OnePlus, open Clone Phone and select the iPhone source option.
  2. On the iPhone, sync the data you need to iCloud before beginning. The OnePlus Nord N300 5G manual specifically describes this preparation.
  3. Sign in to iCloud in Clone Phone on the OnePlus when prompted.
  4. Select the available content and start the import. Keep Clone Phone open and use Wi-Fi as the manual recommends.
  5. Inspect the transferred items on the OnePlus before changing the iPhone.

OnePlus explicitly warns that only certain data formats can transfer because of compatibility. The Nord N300 instructions are model-specific; do not assume that every OnePlus phone presents the same iCloud screens or supports the same categories.

What can transfer, and what may not

The category checklist shown after scanning is the most reliable answer for your exact pair of phones. Manufacturer documentation describes common categories, but support changes with the operating system, model, app, and storage location.

Category What the tools commonly expose What to verify manually
Contacts Contacts are listed by both manufacturers as a normal migration category. Check account assignment, duplicate entries, contact photos, and contacts saved only to a SIM or local storage.
Messages and call history SMS and call history are listed by Clone Phone; Smart Switch offers calls and messages among its selectable groups. Open recent, archived, and multimedia messages and confirm the date range that matters to you.
Photos and videos Both tools can expose photos and videos when supported by the source and destination. Check albums, edited versions, motion or live-photo behavior, dates, and cloud-only items.
Calendar Clone Phone lists calendar data among Android migration categories. Confirm which account owns each calendar and whether recurring events and reminders appear.
Audio, downloads, and documents OnePlus’s transfer information lists audio, downloads, and documents where supported. Look in the destination’s file manager; files in app-private folders may not be visible.
Apps Clone Phone lists apps and, for certain apps, their data. Smart Switch can present apps and other selectable categories. An installed app is not proof that its private database, offline downloads, login, or security registration transferred.
Notes and layouts OnePlus describes notes and desktop layouts in its transfer information; its backup function also lists contacts, SMS, call history, notes, desktop layouts, and apps. OnePlus says that backup excludes app data, so open notes and apps to confirm their contents.
iTunes media from iCloud Not transferable through Samsung’s iCloud route. Copy unencrypted iTunes M4A files from a computer as Samsung suggests.

Pay special attention to banking apps, authenticator apps, work profiles, encrypted messengers, password managers, health records, and eSIMs. Open each one, complete any re-registration, and confirm that you can receive account-recovery codes before wiping the old device.

Wireless or cable: which should you use?

Consideration Wireless Cable
Setup No physical adapter is needed; pair the phones through the manufacturer’s app. Requires a compatible data cable and sometimes an OTG adapter.
Charging during transfer Phones can generally remain near chargers, subject to the app’s instructions. The connected phones may not be able to charge at the same time; Samsung highlights this limitation for large wired transfers.
Large libraries Convenient, but speed depends on the wireless connection and phone conditions. Often practical for a large transfer if both phones have enough battery and the cable remains stable.
iPhone source Galaxy can import from iCloud; OnePlus can use iCloud where the model supports it. Can expose locally stored iPhone data, but format and app-compatibility limits remain.
Failure recovery Restart pairing, move the phones closer, and retry selected categories. Try another data cable or adapter, check USB permissions, and retry with smaller selections.

Use the route that keeps the phones powered and gives you a clear category list. For a modest contact-and-photo move, wireless is usually the least complicated. For a very large local library, a stable wired connection can be worthwhile if the battery and connector requirements are satisfied.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verify the new phone before erasing the old one

  1. Open the Contacts app and search for several old entries, including one with a photo and one saved under a different account.
  2. Open Messages and inspect recent conversations, older threads, attachments, and group chats.
  3. Open Photos and the file manager. Check the newest and oldest items, albums, videos, downloads, and important documents.
  4. Open Calendar and Notes, then switch between accounts if you used more than one.
  5. Launch banking, authenticator, work, password-manager, and messaging apps. Confirm sign-in, account recovery, and message history where applicable.
  6. Make a test call, send a text, connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth accessories, and verify mobile data.
  7. Check that the new phone has enough free storage and that photos and documents are actually present locally or available from the intended cloud account.
  8. Only after these checks should you remove accounts, perform a factory reset, trade in, or recycle the old phone.

Fix common transfer failures

The phones do not find each other

  • Unlock both screens and leave the migration app in the foreground.
  • Move the phones close together; Samsung’s wireless Android procedure specifies within four inches while pairing.
  • Turn off battery-saver restrictions temporarily and grant the app every requested permission.
  • Restart both phones and begin a fresh pairing session.
  • If wireless pairing still fails, switch to a data-capable cable and the required OTG adapter.

The transfer stops or runs out of space

  • Check free storage on the new phone and remove large, duplicated, or already-backed-up files.
  • Retry with categories rather than Everything, beginning with contacts, messages, and photos.
  • Keep both phones charged. For Samsung OTG, follow Samsung’s instruction to start with at least 20% charge, preferably more.
  • For a large Galaxy transfer, consider Smart Switch backup to compatible USB or microSD storage and restore from that backup.

Apps arrived but data or logins did not

This is expected for some apps. Open the app’s own backup or export function on the old phone, complete its account sign-in on the new phone, and follow any security re-registration process. Do not delete the old app or reset the old phone until you have recovered authentication codes and verified the data you need.

iPhone content is missing

  • Confirm that the desired content was synced to the Apple account used for the import.
  • Check whether the missing item is stored only on the iPhone or inside an app with a private database.
  • For a Galaxy, remember that Samsung excludes iTunes music and videos from the iCloud route; copy unencrypted M4A files from a computer instead.
  • For a OnePlus, check the model’s manual because iCloud categories and screens are model-specific and format support is limited.

Time-sensitive Galaxy capabilities in 2026

Samsung Newsroom’s September 16, 2026 announcement for One UI 9 describes additional iPhone-to-Galaxy transfer support for passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and eSIM information. The announcement’s cited iPhone feature requires Smart Switch and an iPhone running iOS 26.6 or later, and its footnotes recommend a wired connection for diverse data sets. Treat this as a qualified One UI 9 announcement, not a guarantee that every Galaxy model, region, or software build exposes every item. Check the Smart Switch categories on the particular Galaxy after it scans the iPhone.

Protect personal data during and after migration

  • Use only the official Smart Switch or Clone Phone app obtained through the phone’s normal software channels.
  • Do not share Apple, Google, Samsung, or OnePlus account passwords with another person assisting you; type them yourself and remove temporary access afterward.
  • Keep both phones physically with you during a wireless transfer and avoid public or unknown Wi-Fi for cloud sign-in.
  • Review account sessions and trusted devices after setup, especially if the old phone will be sold or given away.
  • Back up authenticator recovery codes before resetting the old phone. A transferred app icon does not prove that its security keys moved.
  • After the final verification, sign out of accounts on the old phone and perform the manufacturer’s factory reset.
