Use OPPO Clone Phone for the most complete phone-to-phone move, or Google’s Copy apps & data wizard if the Reno is still in first-time setup. Clone Phone can transfer contacts, messages, call history, photos, videos, audio, files, settings, apps and some app data. Google’s wizard supports either a cable or a wireless connection. Back up WhatsApp, Google Photos and Google contacts before you begin, and do not erase the old phone until you have checked the important data on the Reno.
Which transfer method should you use?
Your best method depends on the Reno’s setup status and whether the old phone still works.

| Situation | Recommended method | Why | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Reno is already set up | OPPO Clone Phone | It offers a broad, category-by-category device transfer between Android phones. | Both phones, charged and near each other; Clone Phone on the old phone. |
| The Reno is on its first setup screens | Google Copy apps & data | Android’s setup wizard can copy the same supported data by cable or wirelessly. | Both phones and, for the wired route, a compatible USB-C data cable. |
| The old phone is unavailable, damaged or already wiped | Cloud restore | Previously synced contacts, backed-up photos, WhatsApp data and device backups can be restored after signing in. | Access to the Google account and any app-specific backup account. |
For most working Android phones, start with Clone Phone. It leaves the source phone’s files in place, so you can verify the result before you retire the old device. If the Reno has not completed initial setup, Google’s setup transfer is usually simpler because it is built into Android.

Charge and connect the phones
- Charge both phones well, ideally with enough battery for the entire transfer.
- Connect the old phone to a stable Wi-Fi network. Keep the Reno on Wi-Fi too when possible, especially if apps or cloud data will be restored.
- Keep the phones close together and do not use either one for calls or heavy tasks during the move.
Back up WhatsApp on the old phone
- Open WhatsApp on the old Android phone.
- Open Settings, then Chats, then Chat backup.
- Run a fresh backup and wait for it to finish. Confirm that the backup account is the one you will use on the Reno.
Do this before opening WhatsApp on the new phone. WhatsApp restoration depends on a backup being available to the account you sign in with; a phone-to-phone copy alone is not a guarantee that every chat database will be restored.
Sync contacts to your Google account
Check that contacts are stored in the Google account rather than only in the old phone’s local storage or SIM card. Contacts synced to that account appear on the Reno after you sign in with the same account. If the Contacts app offers an account or sync setting, run a manual sync before starting the transfer.
Back up photos and videos
Open Google Photos on the old phone and confirm that backup has completed for the folders you care about. Photos that exist only in an unselected device folder may not be present in the cloud restore. Keep the old phone until you have opened the Photos library on the Reno and checked recent as well as older items.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUpdate important apps and record special sign-ins
- Update WhatsApp and other essential apps on the old phone before backing up.
- Make a list of banking, authenticator, password-manager and work apps that require a separate sign-in or device approval.
- Make sure you know the screen lock, Google account password and any two-factor authentication method needed on the Reno.
Transfer data with OPPO Clone Phone
Clone Phone is OPPO’s primary Android-to-OPPO migration route. On the Reno, open Clone Phone and choose the option for an old Android phone, which may be labelled Other Android Phone depending on the ColorOS release. The old phone runs the companion app and sends the categories you select.

1. Start Clone Phone on the OPPO Reno
- Open Clone Phone on the Reno. If you cannot find it, use the app search and look for “Clone Phone.”
- Choose the option indicating that this is the new phone, then select Old Android Phone or Other Android Phone when prompted.
- Allow the Reno to display the pairing information or QR code. The exact wording and screen design can vary by ColorOS version.
2. Install and open Clone Phone on the old Android phone
Install OPPO Clone Phone from Google Play, or use the QR-code prompt shown by the Reno when that option is offered. Open the app and identify the old handset as the sending phone. OPPO’s Android-to-OPPO instructions describe the process as downloading Clone Phone on the old device and opening it on the new OPPO device.
3. Pair the phones and grant permissions
- Scan the QR code on the Reno, or follow the in-app pairing instructions.
- Accept the requested permissions on both phones. Access to contacts, messages, call logs, photos, files and other categories is required for those categories to be copied.
- If Android shows a prompt to allow a temporary local connection, approve it. Keep both screens awake while pairing.
4. Select the categories to transfer
Review the selection screen rather than accepting everything automatically. Depending on the ColorOS version and devices, Clone Phone can offer:
- Contacts
- Messages
- Call logs
- Photos and videos
- Music and other audio
- Documents and files
- System settings
- Installed apps and some app data
- In supported contexts, WeChat and QQ chat records
Clear categories you do not need if the Reno has limited storage. If the Reno already contains data, inspect the selection and destination carefully: OPPO warns that Clone Phone can overwrite existing apps and app data on the new phone.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →5. Start the transfer
- Tap the start or send button on the old phone after confirming the categories.
- Leave both phones unlocked, nearby and connected until the completion screen appears.
- Do not uninstall Clone Phone, switch networks, restart either phone or close the app during the transfer.
- When the process finishes, note any category marked incomplete or skipped and handle it separately.
Clone Phone does not delete files from the source phone. That is why the old device should remain untouched until your checks are complete.

Use Google’s Copy apps & data setup wizard
Choose this route when the Reno is still at first-time setup. Android provides a wired and a wireless option, and Google documents both methods as supporting the same transfer categories.
Wireless setup
- Turn on the Reno and proceed through setup until you reach Copy apps & data.
- Choose the wireless option and follow the instructions to connect the old Android phone.
- On the old phone, approve the connection and select the data you want to copy.
- Keep both phones near each other and powered until setup reports completion.
Wireless transfer avoids buying a cable, but interruptions from low battery, distance or network changes can cause the process to pause. A stable Wi-Fi connection is preferable.
Wired setup with USB-C
- At Copy apps & data, choose the cable option.
- Connect the phones with a compatible USB-C data-transfer cable. A charging-only cable may not work.
- Follow the prompts on both screens, unlock the old phone when asked and approve access.
- Choose the data categories and wait for the setup wizard to finish.
The cable route is the clearest physical option when wireless pairing repeatedly fails. If nothing happens after connection, try another known data cable, unlock both phones and check whether the cable is fully seated.
Move WhatsApp, contacts, photos and apps safely
WhatsApp chats and media
Back up WhatsApp on the old phone first. After the Reno has been transferred and you have signed in to the same Google account, install or open WhatsApp, verify the same phone number and accept the restore prompt when a cloud backup is found. WhatsApp’s own restore process determines which chats and media return; do not erase the old phone until you have opened several recent and older conversations on the Reno.

It offers 3x protection without tangle and gets worry-free usage. Triple protection with EMI-resistant tinplate, 28 AWG OFC conductors, and stainless steel connectors improves signal quality and ensures long-lasting connections.
Contacts
Contacts can arrive through Clone Phone, Google account synchronization or both. After setup, open Contacts and check entries from different parts of your address book. If contacts are missing, confirm that the correct Google account is present under the Reno’s account settings and that synchronization is enabled. Contacts stored only on a SIM card or locally on the old handset may require a separate export or SIM import.
Photos and videos
Clone Phone can copy local photos and videos directly. Google Photos can restore items that were backed up to the same account. Compare the Reno’s camera folder, screenshots and any custom folders rather than checking only the total item count. Cloud thumbnails may appear before full-resolution files have downloaded.
Installed apps and app data
Clone Phone can transfer installed apps and some app data, while Google setup can reinstall supported apps associated with your account. Neither route guarantees that every app’s private database, login session or downloaded content will move. Open your most important apps individually and complete their sign-in or restore process.
What may not transfer cleanly
“Android to Android” does not mean that every byte is portable. OPPO notes that some app data may fail to transfer because of operating-system differences, and the available categories vary by ColorOS version and device.
Best Value

- App logins: security tokens are often invalidated on a new device, so expect to sign in again.
- Banking and authenticator apps: these commonly require identity checks, a new device registration or recovery codes.
- DRM-protected media: protected downloads may need to be downloaded again inside the service’s app.
- Data stored only inside an app: a game save, notes database or vault may require that app’s own export, cloud account or restore tool.
- Device-specific settings: launcher arrangements, permissions, widgets, Bluetooth pairings and some system preferences may need manual setup.
- Unsupported categories: a category shown on one ColorOS release may be absent on another, so follow the labels displayed on your Reno.
For any app that contains irreplaceable information, use its in-app backup or export function before relying on a general phone transfer.
Restore from the cloud when the old phone is unavailable
Cloud restore is a fallback, not a substitute for making backups in advance. During Reno setup, sign in with the Google account used on the old phone and accept the available restore options. Synced contacts should reappear, Google Photos can repopulate the photo library, and Android device backups can restore supported settings and app information. WhatsApp still depends on its own backup and the same account and phone-number verification.
If the old phone can still turn on but Clone Phone fails, use it to complete the WhatsApp, contacts and photo backups first. Cloud restoration may take longer than a local copy and can consume substantial data if the Reno is not on Wi-Fi.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Verify the Reno before wiping the old phone
Verification is the point at which you catch missing data while the original is still available.
- Open Contacts and search for several known people, including entries with photos or notes.
- Open Photos and inspect recent pictures, older albums, screenshots and videos.
- Open Messages and confirm representative conversations and attachments.
- Open Files and check documents, downloads, recordings and custom folders.
- Open WhatsApp, restore the backup if prompted and inspect recent and older chats.
- Launch your highest-priority apps, including banking, work, password-management and authentication apps, and complete any required re-registration.
- Check available storage on the Reno and confirm that the transfer did not fill it to the point that apps cannot update.
Only after these checks should you factory-reset, trade in or give away the old phone. Remember that Clone Phone leaves source files intact but may overwrite data already present on the Reno.
Troubleshoot common transfer problems
The phones cannot pair
- Keep both phones unlocked, close together and on sufficient battery.
- Restart Clone Phone on both devices and repeat the QR-code or pairing step.
- Grant every permission requested by Clone Phone; denying access prevents the related category from being read.
- Temporarily disable aggressive battery-saving restrictions for Clone Phone if Android is closing it in the background.
The cable transfer does not start
- Use a USB-C cable that supports data, not only charging.
- Reconnect both ends with the phones unlocked.
- Try another cable or port if the Reno does not display the copy prompt.
- If the wired route still fails, return to the wireless setup option or use Clone Phone after completing setup.
Some apps or data are missing
- Check whether the missing item belongs to a category you deselected.
- Install the app from Google Play on the Reno and sign in manually.
- Use the app’s own backup or export procedure for private data, saves and vaults.
- Check the old phone for files stored outside the standard camera, download or document folders.
WhatsApp shows no backup
- Confirm that the Reno uses the same Google account as the old phone’s WhatsApp backup.
- Confirm the same phone number during WhatsApp setup.
- On the old phone, return to WhatsApp’s chat-backup screen and verify that the backup completed before trying again.
- Do not delete WhatsApp or wipe the old phone while you are still trying to create or restore the backup.
The Reno already contains duplicate or older data
Stop before repeating the transfer blindly. Clone Phone can overwrite existing apps and app data on the destination. Decide which copy is authoritative, back up anything unique on the Reno, then remove duplicates or repeat the transfer with only the required categories selected.
Practical checklist
- Both phones charged and connected to Wi-Fi.
- WhatsApp backup completed on the old phone.
- Google contacts synchronized.
- Google Photos backup checked for important folders.
- Google account password and two-factor method available.
- Clone Phone installed on the old Android phone, or a compatible USB-C data cable ready.
- Destination storage checked before selecting large media categories.
- Old phone retained until contacts, photos, messages, files, WhatsApp and essential apps are verified.
The safest decision for your situation
Use Clone Phone when the Reno is already configured or when you want to choose migration categories in one device-to-device session. Use Google’s Copy apps & data during first-time setup when you prefer Android’s built-in wired or wireless flow. Use cloud restore only when the old phone cannot supply a direct transfer, and rely on each app’s backup system for data that general phone migration cannot guarantee. In every case, backups and post-transfer verification matter more than the connection method.
