During setup, select iPhone or iPad as the old device, connect the phones with a connector-compatible cable, tap Trust on the iPhone, choose the content to copy, and leave both phones connected until the transfer finishes. If your data is synced to iCloud, Smart Switch can import supported items without a cable.
What you need before starting
Set up the transfer before you begin using the Galaxy as your primary phone. The exact wording and layout can vary by Z Fold model and software version, but the process is built around Smart Switch receiving data on the Galaxy.

- Charge both phones. A transfer can take long enough that a low battery becomes a problem, especially when moving a large photo or video library.
- Keep the iPhone available for account verification. You may need the Apple Account password and access to a trusted phone number or device for verification if you use the iCloud method.
- Identify the iPhone connector. An iPhone with a Lightning port needs a Lightning-to-USB-C cable for a direct connection to most Galaxy Z Fold models. An iPhone with USB-C needs a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Samsung also documents a Lightning-to-USB cable used with a suitable OTG adapter.
- Update your expectations about passwords. Smart Switch does not transfer passwords or Apple Keychain data. Plan to sign in to accounts again or use each service’s own Android sign-in or export process.
- Turn off iMessage before changing phones. Also turn off FaceTime. This helps messages and calls route to the Galaxy rather than remaining associated with Apple’s services.
Do not erase or trade in the iPhone until you have checked the Galaxy. Supported content depends on the transfer method, the iPhone, the Z Fold model and their software. Smart Switch shows the selectable categories and the result after it runs.
Choose a transfer method

There is no official transfer-speed or completion-time figure to use for planning. The amount of data, connection type and phone software all affect the duration.

Method 1: Transfer directly with a cable
1. Start Galaxy setup and open Smart Switch
- Turn on the Galaxy Z Fold and begin its setup.
- When setup asks whether you are moving data from another device, choose the option for an iPhone or iPad. Continue to Smart Switch when prompted.
- If the phone is already set up, open Settings, search for Smart Switch, and choose the receive-data option. The labels can differ slightly by One UI release.
2. Connect the phones with the right cable
For a Lightning-port iPhone, use a Lightning-to-USB-C cable. For a USB-C iPhone, use a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Samsung also lists a Lightning-to-USB cable with an OTG adapter as an alternative. Check the iPhone’s port rather than relying on its model name, because connector types differ across iPhone generations.
Plug the cable into both phones and keep the connection stable. A cable that charges but does not support data, a loose adapter or a damaged connector can prevent Smart Switch from detecting the iPhone.
3. Authorize the connection on the iPhone
- Watch the iPhone for the prompt asking whether to trust the connected device.
- Tap Trust, then enter the iPhone passcode if requested.
- Return to the Galaxy and wait for Smart Switch to read the available categories.
If the Trust prompt does not appear, unlock the iPhone, disconnect and reconnect the cable, and check that the adapter and cable are firmly seated. Do not proceed by guessing that the phones are connected; Smart Switch should display the iPhone and its available content.
4. Select what to copy
Smart Switch presents the content it can import. Review the categories instead of selecting blindly. Your choices may include contacts, messages, photos, videos, calendar data and other supported items. The available list is the authoritative indication for this particular iPhone, Galaxy model and software combination.

Exclude categories you do not want on the Galaxy, then tap Transfer. Keep both phones unlocked or available for prompts and do not remove the cable while the transfer is running.
5. Wait for completion and check the result
When Smart Switch reports completion, follow the on-screen prompts. Open the relevant Galaxy apps and check representative items: a few recent and older photos, contacts, message threads, calendar entries and videos. Samsung’s Canadian instructions specifically recommend reviewing the transfer results and verifying the data after migration.
Only after that review should you decide what to do with the iPhone. Keep it intact until you are satisfied that anything important has either transferred or has another copy.

The iCloud route is useful when the iPhone is not physically available at the same time, or when you do not have a suitable cable. It imports supported content that has actually synchronized to iCloud; items stored only on the iPhone cannot be downloaded from the cloud.

1. Open the receiving side of Smart Switch
- On the Galaxy, open Settings and search for Smart Switch, or open Smart Switch from the Samsung app folder.
- Choose Receive on this phone, then select iPhone/iPad.
- Choose Get data from iCloud instead.
2. Sign in and verify
Enter the Apple Account credentials associated with the iCloud data. Complete any verification Apple requests. Do not share the password with anyone assisting you; enter it directly on the phone and remove it from any temporary notes afterward.
3. Choose the available content and start
Smart Switch displays the supported data it can find in iCloud. Select the categories you want and start the transfer. Follow the completion prompts on the Galaxy.
Because this method depends on cloud synchronization, the selection can be smaller than the selection from a direct cable. Samsung cautions that some data may not transfer wirelessly through iCloud. iTunes music and videos are a specific exception: Samsung’s Fold setup guidance says they cannot be transferred from iCloud.
4. Verify before relying on the Galaxy
Open the Galaxy apps that should contain the imported information and inspect the results. Check that contacts are present, photos open at more than one date, and important messages or calendars are represented. If an item is absent, determine whether it was synchronized to iCloud and whether Smart Switch lists that category before assuming the import failed.

Method 3: Use the newer QR wireless workflow when eligible
Samsung Canada documents a QR-code-initiated wireless flow that does not require installing Smart Switch on the iPhone. It is not a universal replacement for the cable or iCloud methods. Samsung lists all of the following prerequisites:
- iOS 26.6 on the iPhone
- Android 17 on the Galaxy
- One UI 9.0 or later
If your phones meet those requirements and the QR option appears during setup, follow the QR instructions shown on the Galaxy and iPhone. If it does not appear, use the direct-cable or iCloud method instead. Samsung notes that functions and screen layouts can vary by model and software release, so do not treat the QR workflow as evidence that an older Z Fold or iPhone supports it.
What transfers and what needs separate handling

These boundaries are why a complete one-tap clone should not be promised. The method, model and software determine what Smart Switch can offer.

- Make a test call and send a test text to confirm the phone number is active on the Galaxy.
- Ask someone to send a new message and verify that it arrives without relying on iMessage.
- Open Contacts and check several entries, including one with multiple phone numbers or notes.
- Open Gallery and inspect photos and videos from different dates, not just the newest item.
- Open Messages and check important conversations for the expected history.
- Open Calendar and confirm upcoming appointments and recurring events.
- Install the Android versions of essential apps and sign in again, since app packages and Apple Keychain passwords are not transferred.
- Re-create payment cards, passkeys or other security credentials using each service’s own setup. Smart Switch does not carry over Apple Keychain data.
- Check that files you expected from iCloud actually downloaded. A cloud-only transfer cannot include an item that never synchronized.
- Keep the iPhone until every important category has been checked and any missing content has another backup.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Galaxy does not detect the iPhone
- Confirm that the cable matches the iPhone port: Lightning-to-USB-C for Lightning, USB-C-to-USB-C for USB-C.
- Unlock the iPhone and reconnect it so the Trust prompt can appear.
- Try a different known-good data cable or remove an unreliable adapter.
- Close and reopen Smart Switch on the Galaxy, then reconnect both phones.
The Trust prompt never appears
Keep the iPhone unlocked, disconnect the cable, wait briefly and reconnect it. Check both ports for a poor physical fit. If the prompt still does not appear, the cable or adapter may support charging without data, so replace it with a data-capable option.
Some categories are missing from the selection
That usually reflects the method’s supported data set rather than a transfer that is still waiting. Compare the cable and iCloud selections if possible. For an iCloud import, confirm that the missing information is synchronized to the Apple Account. Passwords, Keychain data, Apple apps and iTunes media in iCloud have the separate limitations described above.
The transfer stops or reports an error
Reconnect both phones to power, restart Smart Switch and begin again. Keep the devices physically close with the cable undisturbed during a wired transfer. If the same category repeatedly fails, transfer the remaining categories separately and preserve the original iPhone until you can verify the result.

New messages still go to the iPhone
Confirm that iMessage and FaceTime were disabled before the switch. Then test with a new message sent from another phone. If routing remains wrong, check the phone-number and account settings on the Galaxy and allow time for the service change to take effect before erasing the iPhone.
The QR option is not available
Check the software versions on both devices. Samsung’s documented QR workflow requires iOS 26.6, Android 17 and One UI 9.0 or later. If any requirement is unmet, use Smart Switch with a cable or the iCloud import path.
Which method should you use?
- Use a cable first when you have both phones and the correct connector. It gives Smart Switch a direct source and avoids depending on what has synchronized to iCloud.
- Use iCloud when the needed data is already in iCloud or a cable is unavailable. Expect to review the result carefully because Samsung warns that wireless iCloud transfer may omit some data.
- Use QR wireless transfer only when the phones meet Samsung’s stated iOS 26.6, Android 17 and One UI 9.0 requirements and the option is offered during setup.
Whichever route you choose, Smart Switch on the Galaxy is the receiving tool, and the final verification on the Z Fold—not the completion animation alone—is what tells you the migration is safe to finish.
