How to Transfer Data and Set Up a New OPPO Phone (Android and iPhone Guide)

The safest order is: complete the new OPPO phone’s initial setup, protect anything already on it, then use OPPO Clone Phone for the old device. Clone Phone can copy common items from another OPPO or Android phone and can import selected iPhone/iCloud content, but it does not create a perfect copy. Incompatible apps, security credentials, hardware-bound cards and some system data will not migrate, so verify important information before erasing the old phone.

Menu names vary by OPPO model and ColorOS version. Use the prompts on your screen, and treat the version-specific instructions below as a guide rather than a universal button-by-button route.

What to do before switching phones

A few minutes of preparation prevents the most common losses and interruptions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Charge and connect both phones

  • Charge the old and new phones sufficiently and keep them next to each other throughout the transfer.
  • Connect the new OPPO to Wi-Fi during first-run setup. Wi-Fi is especially important when content must be downloaded from iCloud.
  • Keep the old phone unlocked and available. You may need its screen-lock password, approval for a connection, or permission to access data.

Protect anything already on the new phone

If you have already used the new OPPO, copy or back up its photos, messages and other files before opening Clone Phone. OPPO warns that the destination phone’s existing apps and app data may be overwritten by data from the old phone. The source phone’s files are not deleted by the transfer. Read OPPO’s current warning and workflow at OPPO Clone Phone support.

Have account credentials ready

Keep your Google account password available for Android setup and app restoration. For an iPhone migration that uses iCloud, you may need the Apple Account credentials and any verification step requested on screen. Do not give either phone to someone else while passwords or one-time codes are visible.

Complete the new OPPO phone’s first-run setup

OPPO’s general setup sequence is consistent, but the exact labels and order differ by model and ColorOS release. Follow the on-device prompts in this order:

  1. Power on the phone. Hold the power button until the OPPO logo and welcome screen appear.
  2. Choose a language and region. The region can affect available services, legal terms and some account options.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi. Select your network and enter its password. A connection makes account sign-in, updates and iCloud downloads more reliable.
  4. Review and accept the service terms. Read the displayed terms and privacy choices, then continue only after selecting the options you accept.
  5. Configure Google services. Sign in to a Google account if you want Google Play downloads, app backup and synchronization, and related protection features. OPPO’s setup guide describes the Google account as optional, so you can continue without one and add it later in Settings.
  6. Choose the import option or set the phone up as new. If you are ready to migrate, select the transfer/import path shown by the wizard. If you need to make a backup first, finish setup as new and open Clone Phone afterward.
  7. Finish security and device preferences. Create a screen lock and configure fingerprint or face unlock only after the phone presents those options. Security credentials are not copied from the old phone by Clone Phone.

OPPO’s complete setup explanation, including its Google-account and import choices, is available at How to set up and use a new OPPO phone.

Choose the right transfer route

The old phone’s platform determines which Clone Phone flow you should use. The categories shown can also change with the models, software versions and permissions involved.

Old phone Recommended route Important conditions
Another OPPO phone Clone Phone on both phones, using the in-app QR connection Keep both devices close and approve connection and data permissions.
Another Android phone Open Clone Phone on the new OPPO; install or open it on the old Android when prompted The old phone must be able to install or run the app and grant the requested access.
iPhone Select iPhone as the source in Clone Phone and follow its iCloud or pairing instructions Only the categories offered by the iPhone workflow are available; iCloud media may need to download first.
Phone with important data that must be retained separately Make a local backup and copy it to a computer before migration or reset Use a compatible USB data cable and copy the backup off the phone; a factory reset erases local storage and local backups.

Transfer from another OPPO or Android phone with Clone Phone

Start Clone Phone on the new OPPO

  1. Open Clone Phone from the new phone’s app list or from the setup wizard’s transfer option.
  2. Choose the option indicating that this is the new phone, then select the old phone’s type (OPPO or another Android device) when asked.
  3. Wait for the new OPPO to display a QR code or the connection instructions. Do not leave this screen while pairing.

Prepare the old Android phone

  1. Install or open Clone Phone on the old phone when the new phone tells you to do so.
  2. Choose that the old phone is the source device.
  3. Scan the QR code shown on the new OPPO, or complete the alternative pairing method displayed in the app.
  4. Approve the requested connection, local-network and storage permissions. Without those permissions, the app cannot list or copy the corresponding categories.

Select categories and begin

  1. Review the categories Clone Phone offers, such as contacts, messages, photos, videos, music and apps.
  2. Clear categories you do not want to copy, and check the selection carefully if the new phone already contains data.
  3. Tap the start/transfer control shown by the app and leave both phones close together until the completion message appears.

OPPO’s wireless process uses the phones’ local connection. OPPO instructs users to keep Wi-Fi enabled on the old phone and the new phone’s personal hotspot enabled; it says the Clone Phone transfer itself does not use mobile data. The app’s exact labels and connection screens can vary, so follow the live prompts rather than a fixed button name.

Transfer from an iPhone

Use the iPhone source option

  1. On the new OPPO, open Clone Phone and select iPhone as the source.
  2. Follow the displayed pairing or iCloud sign-in instructions. Keep the new OPPO connected to Wi-Fi while iCloud content is being fetched.
  3. Authenticate when requested, then select the categories the app makes available.
  4. Start the import and wait for Clone Phone’s completion notice before closing either app.

Understand the iCloud limitation

OPPO documents two related iPhone routes. Its initial setup import describes signing in to iCloud and transferring Contacts and Albums, including photos and videos. Its separate Clone Phone instructions say that images and videos stored in iCloud must be downloaded to the phone first for that workflow. These are not promises that all iPhone content will move: iPhone app data, credentials and other cloud categories may require separate sign-in or manual recovery.

If the iPhone’s photos are optimized and the full files exist only in iCloud, allow the OPPO to download them over Wi-Fi before judging the result. Do not erase the iPhone until you have opened several transferred albums and confirmed that the files you need are present.

ColorOS 14 quick setup: when the nearby-device method applies

OPPO documents a separate ColorOS 14 quick-setup flow that uses nearby-device detection, Bluetooth, a QR code and the old phone’s screen-lock password. The documented compatibility condition is specific: the old device should run ColorOS 11.3 or later and Clone Phone should be version 14.2.0 or later. It is not a universal feature for every OPPO model or every region.

  1. On the new OPPO’s ColorOS 14 setup screen, choose the nearby-device or quick-setup option if it is offered.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on the old phone and keep both devices close.
  3. Use the old phone to scan the QR code or accept the pairing request shown by the new phone.
  4. Enter the old phone’s screen-lock password when requested.
  5. Review the available data categories and start the transfer.

If the option is missing, use the standard Clone Phone route instead. The detailed regional instructions are in OPPO’s ColorOS 14 quick-setup article.

What Clone Phone can and cannot move

Clone Phone is a selective migration tool, not a full image of the old handset. The app displays the categories available for your particular source and destination.

Usually offered categories Known exclusions or limits
Contacts, messages, photos, videos, music, apps and some storage or system-related data Hardware-bound data such as transit or access cards
Selected files and media shown in the app Security data, including face data, fingerprints and lock-screen passwords
Some app data, when the app and destination support it Incompatible apps or incompatible app data
Categories presented by the iPhone/iCloud workflow System-clone data and any category not offered by that workflow

After migration, sign in to apps again when prompted. Banking, authentication, messaging and other security-sensitive apps commonly protect their credentials separately; Clone Phone’s documented exclusions mean you should not expect those credentials to appear automatically.

Make a computer backup for data that needs an independent copy

A separate computer copy is useful before a reset, before handing in the old phone, or when a category is not available in Clone Phone. OPPO’s backup instructions use a local backup on the phone followed by copying the backup and selected media folders to a computer with a compatible USB data cable.

  • 161.3 x 76.5 x 8.3 mm (6.35 x 3.01 x 0.33 in)
  1. Open the backup function in Settings. The menu path and label differ between ColorOS versions, so use Settings search for backup if you cannot find it.
  2. Create a local backup and wait for the phone to report completion.
  3. Connect the phone to the computer with a cable that supports data, not charging only.
  4. On the phone, choose the USB mode that permits file transfer if the notification appears.
  5. Copy the backup folder and the photos, videos or other folders you need to the computer. Keep the copy until the new phone has been checked.
  6. Safely disconnect the phone and verify that the copied files open on the computer.

Do not rely on a local backup that remains only on the phone. OPPO warns that a factory reset or wipe erases phone storage, including local backups. Its regional instructions are at OPPO’s computer-backup guide.

Verify the new phone before wiping the old one

Use a deliberate check rather than assuming that a “complete” message means everything is usable.

  • Open Contacts and search for several names, including one with a photo or an unusual character.
  • Open Messages and inspect both recent and older conversations.
  • Browse several photo and video dates and open a full-resolution file.
  • Check that important music, documents and downloads appear in the expected locations.
  • Launch essential apps and complete their sign-in or device-registration steps.
  • Confirm that two-factor authentication, password-manager access and recovery methods still work.
  • Make a test call and send a message after inserting or activating the new SIM/eSIM, if applicable.

Keep the old phone powered on and untouched until these checks pass. Clone Phone does not delete its files, so there is no advantage to erasing it immediately.

Troubleshoot the most common transfer problems

The phones cannot pair or the QR code fails

  • Move the phones within arm’s reach and keep their screens awake.
  • Turn Wi-Fi on for the old phone and enable the new phone’s personal hotspot as directed by Clone Phone.
  • Close other transfer, VPN or hotspot-management apps, then restart Clone Phone on both devices.
  • Install the latest Clone Phone version available to the old phone when the app requests it.
  • Check that the old phone has granted camera, nearby-device and storage permissions.

The transfer stops partway through

  • Keep both phones charged and remove battery-saving restrictions from Clone Phone if the operating system pauses it.
  • Free storage on the new OPPO; a nearly full destination can prevent large media categories from completing.
  • Retry with smaller categories, such as contacts and messages first, then photos and videos.
  • For iPhone content, reconnect the new OPPO to stable Wi-Fi and allow iCloud files to download before retrying.

Apps or app data are missing

Check whether the app was listed as compatible and selected. OPPO explicitly excludes incompatible apps and app data, so reinstalling the app from its official store and signing in again may be the only available route. If the old app stored data in its own cloud account, use that app’s restore procedure rather than expecting Clone Phone to reconstruct it.

Data on the new phone was replaced

Clone Phone may overwrite existing apps and app data on the destination. Restore the backup you made before migration, then repeat the transfer with only the categories you need. If the data existed only on the new phone and was never backed up, stop using it and check the app’s own recovery options before attempting another reset.

Regional and version differences to keep in mind

The general setup and Clone Phone pages cited here are OPPO India support pages; the ColorOS 14 quick-setup page is from OPPO Nigeria, and the computer-backup instructions are from OPPO’s English/New Zealand support site. OPPO publishes regional variations, and the on-device flow can change with model, carrier and ColorOS release.

A CPH2247 quick-start guide identifies ColorOS V11.3 for that particular 2021 model guide. That model-specific software detail is not a current requirement for every OPPO phone. For an exact menu path, check the support page for your model and region and follow the labels displayed during setup.
