Use Samsung Smart Switch to move data from an Android phone or iPhone to your Galaxy S26. You can transfer wirelessly or with a cable, then select the content available for that phone and method. Some apps, app data, and account-synced items may need separate attention, so check the new phone before erasing or trading in your old one.
Before you start
- Charge both phones and keep the old one available until you have checked the transfer.
- For a wireless transfer, keep the phones close together; Samsung’s Galaxy S26 instructions specify within 4 inches.
- For a wired transfer, use a cable that fits both phones. Depending on the devices and cable, you may also need a USB-OTG adapter.
- Have the credentials for relevant Google, Apple, and app accounts ready. Data synced to an account may appear after you sign in rather than transferring directly.
Samsung notes that setup screens can vary by carrier and software version. Its Galaxy S26 transfer guide covers Android and iPhone sources.

Transfer data with Smart Switch during setup
- Start setting up the Galaxy S26 and choose the option to copy apps and data. If the phone is already set up, open Smart Switch from the phone’s settings instead; menu labels can vary.
- Choose whether the old phone is an Android device or an iPhone, then follow the on-screen prompts to connect the phones.
- Select a wireless or wired connection. For wireless, keep the phones close. For wired, connect them with a suitable USB-C transfer cable or other compatible phone-to-phone cable; a USB-OTG adapter may be needed for some combinations. Wireless transfer is also supported, so an accessory is not required.
- When prompted, choose Everything, a limited preset, or Custom if those options are offered. The available choices depend on the source phone and transfer method.
- Start the transfer and leave the phones connected until Smart Switch indicates it is complete. Then check important items on the Galaxy S26 before retiring the old phone.

Choose the route that fits your old phone
| Route | Useful when | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Switch wireless | You want to transfer without connecting a cable. | Keep both phones close and charged. Content options vary by source device and method. |
| Smart Switch by cable | You prefer a direct wired connection or have compatible cables. | A suitable cable is required, and some phone combinations also need a USB-OTG adapter. |
| iCloud through Smart Switch | You are moving from an iPhone and the relevant data is available in iCloud. | Samsung provides an iCloud sign-in flow; the content available differs from a USB transfer. |
| Google backup restore | You have an Android backup in Google. | Samsung says this restore is available through the Setup Wizard on a new or reset device. |
| External USB storage | You want to back up to compatible external storage and restore from it. | Follow Smart Switch’s backup and restore steps; compatible storage is needed. |
For a wired iPhone transfer, follow the iPhone option shown in Smart Switch. Samsung documents both USB-based transfer and an iCloud route; their available content is not identical.

What transfers—and what may not
Samsung lists contacts, calendar items, messages, call logs, photos, videos, documents, and apps among the content Smart Switch may transfer. It does not guarantee every category for every phone: the source device and transfer method affect what is available. Samsung’s Smart Switch content guide describes supported items and exclusions.
- Apps: An app may not transfer or install, and private app data is excluded. Install missing apps from an available store or provider and sign in again where needed. App selections also differ between Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Messages and other phone data: Availability depends on the source and method. Samsung’s content guide lists messages among transferable content, but its iCloud route does not offer the same content as USB.
- Account-synced information: Some contacts, calendars, and other data associated with accounts may appear only after you sign in. Samsung lists exclusions involving certain SIM, social-network, Google or work-account contacts, and externally synced calendar items.
- Protected media: DRM-protected music or video may not transfer.
- iPhone content: Samsung lists photos, videos, documents, recommended apps, and voice memos for the iCloud route. Do not assume every iPhone app has an Android equivalent.
After the transfer, verify before wiping the old phone
- Open the Gallery and spot-check recent and older photos and videos.
- Open Messages and check that the conversations you need are present.
- Check contacts and calendar items, including any that were synced through an account.
- Open critical apps, sign in, and confirm that the data you rely on is available. Install any missing apps from an appropriate store or provider.
- Keep the old phone until you have confirmed the information you need is on the Galaxy S26 or available through the relevant account or backup.
These checks matter because Samsung documents content and private-app-data exclusions; a completed transfer does not by itself establish that every app or account item is present.
