You can transfer an eSIM to a new Galaxy using Samsung’s Instant Transfer when your carrier and exact phone model support it and the new phone is unlocked. Start the transfer from the new phone, keep the old one available to approve it, and test calls and data on the new Galaxy before wiping or trading in the old device. If Instant Transfer is unavailable, ask your carrier for a replacement eSIM QR code or activation code.
Check compatibility before you start
Samsung’s Instant Transfer is not available for every carrier, account, or Galaxy model. Check Samsung’s Galaxy eSIM and supported network carriers page for the relevant region and verify eligibility with your carrier. Samsung lists eSIM-capable Galaxy families, including recent Galaxy S and Z lines and selected FE, A, XCover, and tablet models, but support can vary by exact model and by the device’s country of origin.

The new Galaxy must be unlocked for Instant Transfer to succeed. A carrier appearing on Samsung’s list does not by itself confirm that your particular account or plan qualifies. Menu wording and availability may also vary by software version and region.

Have both phones nearby and charged. Connect the new Galaxy to Wi-Fi if available, and keep access to carrier support in case activation needs help. Do not erase or trade in the old phone until you have confirmed that the new one works.

- On the new Galaxy: Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Choose Transfer SIM from Galaxy/Android phone.
- On the old phone: Approve the transfer prompt. Enter on the old phone the six-digit verification code displayed on the new Galaxy.
- On the new phone, select the number you want to transfer, then confirm the transfer on both devices.
- Finish the process on the old phone. Samsung says the eSIM profile for the selected number will download and activate on the new Galaxy.
Confirm service before wiping the old phone
Wait for the new Galaxy to show that activation has completed. Then check that it has cellular service and place a call or use mobile data. Keep the old phone intact until those checks succeed; the transfer instructions do not guarantee that every carrier will activate instantly.
If Instant Transfer is missing or does not work
First, recheck the new phone’s unlocked status and confirm that the exact model, carrier, and account are eligible. If the transfer option is unavailable, Samsung documents setting up an eSIM by scanning a QR code from the carrier or entering a carrier-provided activation code. Contact your carrier for a replacement or reissued eSIM and its account-specific setup steps. Ask whether an existing QR code is still valid rather than assuming it can be reused.

If service is interrupted, use Wi-Fi or another working phone to contact the carrier. Ask whether the old eSIM profile has been deactivated, whether the new eSIM has been provisioned, and whether the account needs further verification. Your carrier can confirm the status and next steps for its service.
