You can lower the price of a new Galaxy by trading in an eligible phone through Samsung’s U.S. online store or Shop Samsung app. The credit depends on your old phone, the new Galaxy, its assessed condition and the offer available when you order—so enter your exact model and condition at checkout rather than relying on a fixed estimate. Samsung’s current U.S. offers page lists trade-in promotions for the Galaxy S26 series, but offers and eligibility can change.
How Samsung’s U.S. trade-in works
Samsung’s U.S. Trade-In Program applies to eligible new Samsung products ordered through Samsung.com or the Shop Samsung App. To see whether a trade-in applies to the Galaxy you want, start with the product’s purchase flow and enter the old phone’s make, model and condition. The checkout flow shows the offer available for that combination.

Samsung says eligibility and credit can vary by purchase and may change. The value shown at checkout is therefore an estimate until Samsung receives and assesses the device. The current Galaxy S26 offers page is one live example, not a guarantee that a particular phone qualifies or that the same offer will remain available.

- Choose your new Galaxy and purchase route. Start at Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung App, then open the specific Galaxy product and its available offers. Read the terms attached to that offer; promotions can set different requirements.
- Enter the old phone’s exact details. Select its make and model and answer the condition questions accurately. Check the displayed credit and eligibility for that purchase. Do not assume another model, condition or offer will receive the same amount.
- Review the full deal before ordering. Record the stated trade-in credit, promotion name, new phone’s total price and applicable terms. If comparing another retailer or carrier, account for its own device-condition rules, financing or service requirements, taxes, promotion restrictions and credit timing. A credit spread over installments is not directly equivalent to an immediate discount.
- Save the order and trade-in terms. Keep the order confirmation and a record of the phone model and condition you submitted. Check the exact return deadline and what happens if the phone is late or fails inspection.
- Prepare the old phone, then ship it as instructed. Transfer your data, remove personal information, disable anti-theft protections and factory-reset the device. Follow the shipping instructions associated with your order rather than relying on a generic label or deadline.
How much is your old phone worth toward a new Galaxy?
There is no universal Samsung trade-in amount. Samsung determines the displayed credit using the phone model, the new product, the offer in effect and the device’s assessed condition. The amount available for a particular phone can change over time, so use the live trade-in flow for your intended Galaxy and purchase date. Samsung’s trade-in FAQ and program terms describe the rules; neither establishes a single value that applies to every customer.

Before deciding, compare the resulting net price and the conditions behind the credit—not just the headline amount. Include when the credit is applied, which models and conditions qualify, the shipping deadline and the consequences of a missed return or failed inspection. The terms of a carrier or retailer offer are separate; verify them directly before treating them as a better deal.
Which phones qualify, including phones with cracked screens?
Under Samsung’s standard U.S. terms, a trade-in phone must power on, hold a charge and not shut off unexpectedly. Its display must function without black spots or pixelation. The standard terms also restrict cracks, damage beyond normal wear, liquid damage and swollen or damaged batteries. The phone cannot be on a banned list, must belong to the person trading it in (a leased phone does not qualify unless it has been purchased), and must have anti-theft locks disabled.

A cracked phone is not automatically eligible. Samsung may allow certain cracked-screen devices in a particular promotion, but that does not mean every damaged phone qualifies. Answer the condition questions truthfully and check the exact offer terms for the Galaxy you are buying; do not rely on another promotion’s rules.

What to do before sending the old phone
Samsung says it ships the new Galaxy so you can activate it and transfer your data before returning the current phone. Its device trade-in FAQ identifies Smart Switch, Samsung Cloud and cable transfer as options. Confirm your photos, contacts and other important data are accessible on the new phone before erasing the old one.

- Back up or transfer the data you want to keep.
- Disable reactivation and anti-theft protections, including relevant Google protections.
- Remove personal information and accounts, then factory-reset the old phone.
- Remove accessories unless the order instructions specifically ask for them.
- Pack and ship the device using the instructions and deadline for your order.
When must you send Samsung the trade-in?
Samsung’s standard U.S. terms say to ship the trade-in within 15 days after receiving the new product, unless the applicable promotion sets a different period. Check your order’s terms because the promotion may change the standard window. If you do not return the device or Samsung’s inspection finds it ineligible, a chargeback can apply under the program terms. Use the checkout credit as one part of the total-cost comparison. A meaningful comparison includes the net purchase price after credit, whether the credit is immediate or paid over time, the exact phone and condition accepted, the return deadline, and the financial consequences if the device is rejected or never arrives. No specific carrier or retailer offer is evaluated here, so compare any alternative using its current written terms rather than assuming it is equivalent to Samsung’s offer.
