To track time in Wrike, start a timer on a task or enter a duration by hand. Each entry belongs to a task, carries a date, and can include a category and a comment. You review entries in weekly Timesheets, filter them in reports, and, on the billing side, each entry inherits whether the task is billable. Whether you can use these features depends on your plan and role, so check that first.
Check plan and role access first
Wrike’s help pages list time tracking as a plan-gated feature. The table below summarizes what the cited Wrike Help Center pages and the January 2026 product update say. Plan names and availability change over time, so confirm against your account’s plan details before relying on any single row.

Roles matter as much as plans. The cited pages exclude Collaborators and Viewers from time tracking and Timesheets. Other role permissions can vary with account settings. The time-tracking page also describes availability for legacy Business and Enterprise plans, so if your account uses a legacy plan name, confirm which tier applies to you.

Start a task timer
The timer is the most direct way to capture time as work happens. Wrike’s time-tracking help page states the core rule plainly: “You can only track time for one task at a time.”
#1 Best Overall
- ✔This daily plan pad features detailed hourly schedule timelines from 12 AM to 11 PM, perfectly segment your morning, afternoon and evening hours. Track meetings, appointments and fixed tasks hour by hour to eliminate procrastination and boost your daily time management efficiency.
- ✔ 1.Put an end to the time black hole: Every hour of activity is recorded, so you always know where your time goes and bid farewell to "being busy yet achieving nothing". 2.Cure procrastination: Visual time grids have an inherent sense of supervision; blank time slots serve as a direct reminder, with more binding power than phone alerts. 3.Gain instant a sense of accomplishment: Check off completed tasks with a simple tick. A filled time axis page by page delivers physical feedback that digital tools cannot match, making it easier to keep going the more you use it.
- ✔ 1.Students & Exam Takers: Plan class, review and practice time; allocate study hours for each subject precisely for targeted exam preparation. 2.Professionals: Schedule meetings, work projects and commute time; prioritize tasks clearly and bid farewell to chaotic overtime. 3.Freelancers & Stay-at-Home Parents: Clearly divide work/childcare/personal time to avoid blurring the boundaries between life and work. 4.Self-Discipline Enthusiasts: Check in on fitness, reading and learning; develop regular routines with hourly scales to build good habits effortlessly.
- Open the task in Item view.
- Start the timer from the task.
- Work on the task. The timer keeps running until you pause it or start a timer on another task. It also keeps running if you close the browser window.
- Stop the timer. Wrike then lets you add a category and a comment to the entry.
Two behaviors to plan around. First, starting a timer on a second task pauses the first one, so an open timer on another task is not a sign that the earlier entry is still accumulating. Second, the timer records hours and minutes rather than seconds, so very short sessions will be recorded at minute resolution.
Add time manually
If you forgot to start the timer, or you worked away from Wrike, you can log time against a task without running one. The manual form takes four pieces of information:
- Duration: Wrike accepts “1:30” or “1h30m”, both meaning an hour and a half.
- Date: the day the work was done.
- Time-tracking category: optional classification of the work type.
- Comment: a note describing what the time covered.
Find and use Timesheets
Timesheets are Wrike’s weekly view of logged time. They show one selected week at a time, with tasks listed alongside time-tracking categories. Timesheets are the place to review, correct, or fill in a full week rather than one task at a time.

How the weekly grid is built
Timesheets can prefill active tasks assigned to you that are scheduled in the selected week, along with tasks that already have time logged during that week. You can also add tasks manually. If the same task has entries under different categories, it appears in separate rows, one per category. Each cell sums the entries for that task, category, and day.
Editing and inspecting entries
Within Timesheets you can add, edit, delete, and comment on entries, subject to your permissions. The cell total is a rollup. To see the individual entries behind a number, open the task’s Activity Stream, which lists each one separately.
Adjusting the view
Timesheets can display system fields and custom fields, be sorted, and be grouped. Two groupings are useful in practice. Grouping by Billing Type separates billable from non-billable time. Grouping by Status shows how logged hours line up with task progress.

Logging from a phone
Wrike’s Android and iOS apps let you add entries in Timesheets. The help page also describes Google Calendar integration and, on Android, weekly billable and non-billable summaries.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Billable and non-billable time
You do not mark each entry as billable. Entries added through the timer or Timesheets are automatically classified based on the task’s billing type. If a week’s billable total looks wrong, check the billing type on the task before editing the time entries themselves.
Categories
Time-tracking categories classify logged work, such as separating types of activity within the same task. You choose a category in Timelog when you stop a timer or enter time manually. Categories then appear in Timesheets and in time-entry reports.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Report on logged time
Wrike reports can use time entries as their data source. Report Builder lets you filter by user, date, category, and billing type. Each filter narrows the data, so a report that looks incomplete often has an active filter you did not intend.

Report size limit
One report can include up to 100,000 timelog entries, according to the Wrike Help Center page on Report Builder. That page does not show a publication date, so treat the figure as the documented limit at the time of reading rather than a permanent one.

Team-utilization template
Wrike also documents a team-utilization report template for reviewing employee capacity and productive utilization. Its availability depends on your plan, and the cited pages do not list the exact tiers it covers.
Administration and automation with the API
Wrike’s January 2026 product update describes API support that extends time tracking into administration. The changes fall into two groups:
- Timesheets API: fetch weekly timesheets, create them, submit them, approve or reject them, and change row categories. The update states this is available on Business and higher plans.
- Timelog API: lock and export status, plus lock periods. Lock periods can be applied to a space, folder, or project for a chosen period, and then unlocked.
These are dated product-update statements. Check Wrike’s current API documentation before building an integration that depends on them.

The three main ways to record time differ mainly in when they capture it and how much detail they show.
| Method | How the entry is created | Level of detail | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Task timer | Runs live from the task and stops on your command | Single task, hours and minutes | Capturing time as work happens |
| Manual entry | Duration, date, category, and comment typed in | Single task, one entry per record | Logging time after the fact |
| Timesheets | Weekly grid of tasks and categories | Weekly rollup in cells, with individual entries in the Activity Stream | Reviewing and correcting a whole week |
Troubleshooting common issues
- You cannot see time tracking or Timesheets. Confirm your plan is Business, Pinnacle, or Apex, or a legacy tier listed on the time-tracking page, and that your role is not Collaborator or Viewer.
- A timer stopped unexpectedly. You probably started a timer on another task, which pauses the first one.
- A completed, deferred, or canceled task still shows hours. Logged time remains with the task after its status changes, so this is expected.
- The same task appears in two rows in a week. Each category gets its own row, so this is expected when entries use different categories.
- A task is counted as the wrong billing type. Entries inherit the task’s billing type, so correct the task rather than each entry.
- A report looks incomplete. Check its user, date, category, and billing type filters first.
