How to Track Steam Game Prices and Set Sale Alerts

For simple sale notifications, add games to your Steam wishlist. To judge whether a price is unusually low, check its SteamDB price history. For more configurable alerts, use IsThereAnyDeal’s Waitlist and notification rules. Before buying, compare prices in the relevant currency and region, and check the history’s date range: a displayed low is not automatically an all-time low.

Service Best for What it offers What to check
Steam wishlist Basic alerts for Steam games Email or mobile-app notifications for wishlisted games on sale as Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, or Weekend Deals. Steam’s notification announcement explains the feature. Account email preferences and mobile notification settings; notifications are not necessarily instant.
SteamDB Steam price history and a watchlist Price charts and tables, watchlists, manual Steam wishlist import, and a browser extension that can show lowest recorded prices on Steam store pages. SteamDB says it records price changes in real time as Steam updates them and detects changes within minutes. The game’s history, currency and region. SteamDB describes coverage across 41 Steam currencies and data dating to 2012, but an individual game’s record may not cover that entire period. SteamDB
IsThereAnyDeal Configurable deal notifications A Waitlist, Steam wishlist import, notification rules, and price history on game pages. See IsThereAnyDeal’s welcome page. Current notification rules and store coverage, which can change.

Use Steam for straightforward notifications, SteamDB when historical Steam pricing is your main concern, or IsThereAnyDeal when you want to configure which deals trigger alerts. Check each service’s current settings rather than assuming its alert threshold or store coverage matches another service.

Set up a Steam wishlist alert

  1. Add the game to your Steam wishlist. Open the game’s Steam store page and select the wishlist control.
  2. Check your email preferences. Make sure Steam can send the account emails you want, and verify the email address if required.
  3. Check mobile notifications. If you use the Steam mobile app, review its notification settings and allow Steam sale alerts.

Steam says wishlist notifications cover games on sale in the listed deal types. Valve’s Steamworks wishlist documentation gives publishers the operational conditions: a qualifying promotional discount is at least 20%, applies to the lowest-priced package, and lasts more than eight hours. It also notes that delivery can take hours, email requires a verified address, user preferences matter, and a product-specific cooldown of about two weeks can apply or extend during high-volume periods. Those are documented platform behaviors, not a promise that every user will receive an immediate alert for every discount.

Track price history with SteamDB

  1. Search for the game on SteamDB and open its page.
  2. Select the Prices tab to inspect its price chart or table.
  3. Check the displayed currency and region, then look at the dates covered before comparing a current offer with a reported low.
  4. Create a SteamDB account to use its watchlist, or manually import your Steam wishlist if you want to follow several games.

SteamDB says it detects Steam price changes within minutes of updates. Its browser extension can also surface lowest-recorded-price information on Steam store pages. Treat that as a quick reference, then open the history itself to confirm the relevant currency and time window.

  1. Add games individually to the Waitlist, or import your Steam wishlist.
  2. Review the service’s notification Rules and email setup.
  3. Choose rules that fit the price or deal conditions you want, then check the game’s history when an alert arrives.

IsThereAnyDeal describes rules that can filter notifications according to your preferences. Its game pages also show price history. Confirm the current rules and participating stores on the service rather than assuming a particular alert covers Steam alone or follows another tracker’s logic.

Decide whether a sale is worth buying

  1. Set a personal limit before a sale. Choose a maximum price or discount that makes the game worth buying to you.
  2. Compare like with like. Use the same region and currency as your intended purchase. A low recorded in another currency or market may not be relevant.
  3. Check the history window. Some pages report only prices captured during a defined period. For example, Steam Dashboard’s tracked-game page labels its low as the lowest captured in its recording window, not an all-time low; the page stated its prices were recorded through October 6, 2026.
  4. Make the decision from the current offer. A historic low is useful context, not a forecast. SteamDB says publishers choose discounts and it does not know which games or prices will be discounted in an upcoming sale. SteamDB

Past sale patterns cannot guarantee a particular game will be discounted in the next seasonal sale. Use an alert to avoid repeated manual checks, and use the price history to put the offer in context—not to predict a publisher’s next move.
