RIOT is quoted in US dollars on Nasdaq. To see its value in rupees, multiply the dollar share price by a dated INR-per-US-dollar rate; to measure a holding’s INR return, apply that conversion at both the start and end of the period. The result reflects two moving parts—Riot Platforms’ share price and the USD/INR exchange rate—plus any fees, taxes, dividends, deposits, withdrawals, splits or other cash flows in your account.
What the RIOT ticker represents
RIOT is the common-stock ticker for Riot Platforms, Inc. on the Nasdaq Capital Market. Riot describes itself as a digital-infrastructure company whose activities include bitcoin mining, engineering and data centers. Its FY2025 Form 10-K states: “Our common stock trades on the Nasdaq Capital Market under the symbol ‘RIOT’.” A US quote feed therefore reports one share in US dollars, not in Indian rupees.

Riot reported 379,125,849 common shares outstanding as of February 26, 2026, in its 2026 Form 10-K. That figure is a company-wide share count, not the number of shares you own and not a conversion factor for an INR quote.

Why a dollar return and a rupee return differ
A US-dollar investor isolates RIOT’s share-price movement. An investor measuring wealth in rupees also owns an indirect position in the dollar: when the dollar rises against the rupee, each dollar of RIOT value translates into more rupees; when the dollar falls, the translation reduces the rupee result.
| Component | What changes | Effect on an INR result |
|---|---|---|
| RIOT share price | The Nasdaq price in USD | Higher ending USD price raises the rupee value; a lower price reduces it. |
| USD/INR | Rupees required for US$1 | A higher INR-per-dollar rate raises the translated value of a dollar asset; a lower rate reduces it. |
| Cash flows and trading costs | Commissions, spread, taxes, dividends, withholding, deposits, withdrawals and adjustments | These change what you actually paid or received and must be included separately. |
The two market movements compound rather than simply add. If RIOT rises in dollars while the dollar also strengthens against the rupee, the INR gain is larger than the USD gain. If one rises and the other falls, they offset one another.
Information to record before you calculate
Reliable conversion starts with a time-matched record. Create an entry for each valuation endpoint, and retain the original quote and rate rather than only the converted number.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- RIOT price: record the USD price, the market-data provider, trading date and timestamp, and whether it is an official close, adjusted close, bid, ask or an intraday trade.
- FX quote: record USD/INR as INR per US$1, the date and time, and whether it is a central-bank reference rate, a mid-market rate, a broker conversion rate or a remittance rate.
- Position: record shares, fractional-share precision and the account currency.
- Cash ledger: record commissions, spread, taxes, withholding, dividends, deposits, withdrawals, interest and any other amount that leaves or enters the account.
- Corporate actions: record stock splits, reverse splits, mergers, distributions, share lending credits and changes in share count.
For a period return, use closing prices at both endpoints, or use synchronized intraday timestamps. Pairing a US market close with an FX quote from a different part of the day can create a difference that is timing noise rather than investment performance.
How to track RIOT’s value in INR
Step 1: Capture the USD share price
Use a quote that identifies RIOT on Nasdaq and note whether it is delayed. For a daily valuation, select the same type of close at every endpoint. Do not mix an adjusted close at one date with an unadjusted close at another unless you have documented how dividends and splits were treated.
Step 2: Obtain a contemporaneous USD/INR rate
Obtain an INR-per-dollar rate with a timestamp close to the stock-price timestamp. Keep the source label. A reference or mid-market rate is useful for comparison, while a broker’s conversion rate and fees determine the amount actually credited to your account.
Step 3: Convert one share
Use this equation:
INR value per share = RIOT price in USD × INR per US$1
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

For example, if a quote were US$P and the matching rate were ₹F per US$1, the translated value would be ₹(P × F). P and F are variables here; substitute your dated observations.
Step 4: Convert the entire position
Multiply by the number of shares:
INR position value = shares × RIOT USD price × INR per US$1

Use the actual quantity held at that timestamp. If you bought or sold during the period, value each lot or use a money-weighted method instead of pretending the same number of shares was held throughout.
Step 5: Compare the translated value with the executable amount
The translated figure is a valuation, not necessarily the cash you would receive. A broker may apply its own FX spread, conversion fee, settlement rate and tax withholding. Keep the calculated reference value and the broker’s actual credit as separate columns.

The Reserve Bank of India’s official page displayed ₹95.3129 per US$1 at 1:00 p.m. on July 10, 2026. That is a historical illustration, not a current rate for a later purchase or sale. If a RIOT quote at the same valuation time were US$P, the reference translation would be ₹(P × 95.3129) per share before any broker spread, taxes or fees. A transaction executed later must use a rate dated to that transaction.
The Indian Economic Service’s RBI reference-rate explainer notes that a reference rate can differ from rates established in stock-exchange or over-the-counter currency venues, even though the direction of movement should generally be the same. This is why a back-tested INR return can differ from the amount shown on a contract note.
Calculating returns in USD and INR
USD return when there are no cash flows
For a buy-and-hold position with no dividends, deposits, withdrawals or trading costs included, calculate:
USD return = (ending RIOT USD price ÷ starting RIOT USD price) − 1

INR return = [(ending USD price × ending INR/USD) ÷ (starting USD price × starting INR/USD)] − 1

The share count cancels when it is unchanged, but retaining it in your spreadsheet makes the valuation auditable:

INR return = [(N × P1 × F1) ÷ (N × P0 × F0)] − 1
N is shares, P0 and P1 are the starting and ending RIOT prices in USD, and F0 and F1 are the starting and ending INR-per-dollar rates.
Separate the stock and currency effects
Calculate the two component changes alongside the combined result:
- RIOT USD price change: (P1 ÷ P0) − 1.
- USD/INR change: (F1 ÷ F0) − 1.
- Combined INR change: (P1 × F1) ÷ (P0 × F0) − 1.
The combined figure includes a cross-effect between the two movements, so adding the two percentages will not exactly reproduce it.
Worked calculation with clearly hypothetical inputs
The following numbers are invented solely to demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not RIOT or FX market quotes. Replace every input with your own dated records.
| Input | Start | End |
|---|---|---|
| RIOT price | US$10.00 | US$12.00 |
| USD/INR | ₹80.00 per US$1 | ₹90.00 per US$1 |
| Shares | 100 | |
- Starting INR value: 100 × 10 × 80 = ₹80,000.
- Ending INR value: 100 × 12 × 90 = ₹108,000.
- USD return: (12 ÷ 10) − 1 = 20%.
- USD/INR change: (90 ÷ 80) − 1 = 12.5%.
- INR return: (108,000 ÷ 80,000) − 1 = 35%.
The 35% rupee result is greater than the 20% dollar result because the hypothetical dollar strengthened against the rupee during the holding period. It would be wrong to call 35% the stock’s USD performance; it is the result for an INR-based valuation before costs and taxes.
Including fees, taxes and other cash flows
The simple formulas assume a static, cost-free position. Real account performance requires a cash-flow ledger.
Commissions and bid-ask spread
Subtract commissions and regulatory charges from proceeds or add them to the cost basis, according to your broker statement. For an intraday purchase, the ask price and FX conversion may be above a displayed midpoint; a sale may receive the bid and a different conversion rate.

Taxes and withholding
Use the tax actually assessed in your jurisdiction and the tax-lot dates that apply to you. Keep trading taxes, capital-gains tax, dividend withholding and currency-conversion charges as separate line items. A headline price return is not the same as an after-tax return.
Dividends
Riot’s FY2025 filing reports no historical cash dividends and no intention to pay them in the foreseeable future, but that policy is not a guarantee. If a dividend occurs, record the ex-date, USD amount per share, INR conversion rate used for the receipt, withholding and the net cash credited. An adjusted-price series may already reflect some distributions; verify the provider’s methodology before combining it with cash received.
Deposits and withdrawals
Money added to or removed from the account is not investment performance. For irregular contributions, calculate a money-weighted return such as an internal rate of return, or report time-weighted sub-period returns. Never compare the beginning and ending account balances without removing these external cash flows.
Splits, reverse splits and dilution
A split changes the number of shares and the per-share price without, by itself, changing economic value. Reconcile historical prices and share counts to the split-adjusted record. Dilution from new shares can affect the company’s per-share economics and your ownership percentage; it is not an FX conversion item, so analyze it through the stock return and corporate-action records.
Choosing the right FX rate
| Rate type | Best use | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Central-bank reference rate | Consistent historical reporting and comparison | May not be executable in your account and may be published at a specific time. |
| Mid-market rate | Approximate market valuation without a retail spread | Usually excludes the broker’s spread, commission and settlement terms. |
| Broker conversion rate | Estimating or reconciling the amount actually credited or debited | Can include a spread, fee and a timestamp different from the displayed stock quote. |
| Remittance or retail rate | Planning a transfer of funds | Often includes a wider spread and may not match an investment transaction. |
State the rate type next to every return. “INR return” without a source, timestamp and rate convention is not reproducible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Synchronizing US stock and Indian FX timestamps
Nasdaq trades on US market hours, while INR markets and your broker’s conversion process follow different business hours and holidays. A US closing price can therefore be paired with an FX rate published earlier, later or on a different local trading day.
- For daily series, define one convention, such as the Nasdaq official close paired with the nearest available FX fixing, and use it consistently.
- For an intraday result, capture both prices at the same stated time zone and include seconds when the market is moving quickly.
- Do not silently substitute the next available holiday quote. Mark the missing session and explain the carry-forward rule.
- When reconciling a trade, prefer the broker’s contract-note rate and execution timestamp over a generic end-of-day rate.
Comparing USD and INR performance responsibly
Use five columns in a comparison: RIOT share-price change, USD/INR change, combined INR return, fee and tax treatment, and endpoint timestamps with their rate source. This prevents a currency translation from being mistaken for a different stock-price series.
Riot’s SEC performance graph compares a hypothetical $100 investment in RIOT with the Russell 3000 and a peer index from December 31, 2020 through December 31, 2025. The filing cautions that the graph is not intended to suggest future performance. The graph is a USD-based historical comparison; it does not answer what an INR investor actually received after conversion costs and taxes.
A spreadsheet layout that is easy to audit
Set up one row per valuation date and keep inputs separate from calculated fields.
Best Value
| Column | Example content |
|---|---|
| A: Date/time | Endpoint timestamp and time zone |
| B: RIOT USD price | Unadjusted or adjusted, clearly labeled |
| C: INR per US$1 | Rate, source and rate type in a note |
| D: Shares | Actual quantity held at that timestamp |
| E: Gross INR value | =B2*C2*D2 |
| F: Costs and taxes | Commissions, spread, withholding and other charges |
| G: Net INR value | Gross value adjusted for applicable costs and cash flows |
For a no-cash-flow period, the INR return cell can be written as =(E_end/E_start)-1. For a cash-flow period, list each deposit, withdrawal and dividend on its own dated row and use a money-weighted or time-weighted method rather than forcing the simple formula.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Using a rupee quote with no date
Problem: An exchange rate copied from a converter is treated as if it applied to every trade. Fix: retain the publication time, source and rate type for each endpoint.
Multiplying by the wrong currency direction
Problem: A quote expressed as dollars per rupee is multiplied as though it were rupees per dollar. Fix: confirm that the rate is explicitly INR per US$1. If the source gives the inverse, divide by it first.
Mixing adjusted and unadjusted prices
Problem: A split-adjusted historical quote is compared with an unadjusted current quote. Fix: use one price convention and reconcile every split or distribution.
Calling the translated value a broker payout
Problem: A mid-market calculation is reported as the cash that would arrive in an Indian bank account. Fix: show the reference valuation separately from the broker’s executable rate, spread, fees and taxes.
Ignoring external cash flows
Problem: A deposit is counted as a gain or a withdrawal as a loss. Fix: remove deposits and withdrawals from performance calculations and choose a return method suited to the timing of contributions.
Assuming currency always helps
Problem: A strong RIOT chart in dollars is assumed to guarantee a strong rupee result. Fix: calculate both endpoint conversions; a falling dollar can erase part of a USD gain, while a rising dollar can amplify it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How to report the result clearly
A reproducible statement should identify:
- RIOT’s price source, price convention and each endpoint timestamp;
- the USD/INR source, rate type and each endpoint timestamp;
- shares held and whether fractional shares were included;
- the gross USD return and the translated INR return;
- commissions, spreads, taxes, withholding, dividends and other cash flows;
- any split, reverse split or other corporate action; and
- whether the result is a reference valuation or the broker’s actual settlement amount.
This record lets another person reproduce the calculation and identify whether a discrepancy comes from RIOT’s price, the currency rate, timing, or account charges.
What the calculation can—and cannot—tell you
The conversion answers a measurement question: how many rupees the dollar-denominated position represented at selected dates. It does not forecast RIOT’s share price, the bitcoin market, future USD/INR movements or your eventual tax bill. Riot’s own filing says its historical performance graph is not intended to suggest future results. Treat any historical USD or INR return as a record of the chosen period, not as a promise about the next one.
