To track a Target product’s price, save a dated screenshot of the exact product page and log the displayed price and shopping context with it. Screenshots are useful as your own price history, but they are not acceptable proof for a Target price match: Target says, “Screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted.” For a match, show the current online price on your mobile device so a Target team member can verify it.
How to track a Target product’s price manually
- Open the exact product page. Check the selected size, color, quantity, model, or other variant. Copy the page URL into a log so later captures can be matched to the same item.
- Record the shopping context. Note the selected store, shipping or pickup setting, and any visible sale, Target Circle, or other offer terms. Target says prices and promotions may vary between stores and online, so a price without this context can be misleading.
- Capture the useful part of the page. Include the product identity and displayed price, along with any visible offer labels that affect it. Use a full-page capture if important terms or product details are farther down the page; otherwise, a screenshot showing the relevant details is enough for a personal record.
- Add a timestamp. Put the capture date, time, and time zone in the filename or log entry. For example:
target-product-2026-10-03-1430-UTC.png. - Repeat without overwriting earlier files. Capture at consistent intervals or whenever you check an alert. Keep one original file per observation so you can compare the sequence later.
A simple tracking log
Keep the screenshot and its context together. These are practical record-keeping fields, not requirements set by Target:

- Product name and URL
- Brand, model, size, color, count, or other variant identifier
- Capture date, time, and time zone
- Displayed price and any visible sale or Circle offer
- Selected store or shipping/pickup context
- Screenshot filename

How to compare screenshots fairly
Compare observations only when they refer to the same product variant and broadly equivalent shopping context. Check that the URL and identifying details match, then compare the displayed prices and visible offer labels. If the selected store, fulfillment option, availability, or promotion changed, note that difference rather than treating the numbers as a like-for-like price change. Target cautions that pricing, promotions, styles, and availability can vary by store and online.
A screenshot is a record of what appeared at its capture time; it does not guarantee that the price remains available. Target says a match price must be valid when requested and may verify the advertised price and availability.

Can I use a screenshot for a Target price match?
No. Target’s Price Match Guarantee says screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted as proof. For online price verification, show the current online price on your mobile device and let a Target team member verify it. A saved image or old page capture may no longer reflect the price when the request is reviewed.
Target’s policy says qualifying requests may be made at purchase or within 14 days, subject to the policy’s conditions. The item must be identical, and the price must be listed and valid at the time of the request. Target may verify the advertised price and availability and may decline a match it cannot verify. Exclusions and location constraints apply, so check the current policy before relying on a particular offer. Its guidance emphasizes matching details such as brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number.

Can I automate Target price tracking?
PriceDropCatch advertises a Target price tracker through a browser extension and iPhone app, with one-click tracking, price history, and alerts. Its product page and extension listing describe those features. The vendor says its default Target check interval is every 30 minutes while Chrome is open, and says extension tracking data is stored locally in the browser. These are vendor statements, not independently verified performance or privacy findings; do not assume checks continue when Chrome is closed.

Common tracking problems and fixes
- The price differs from an earlier capture: Check whether the selected store, shipping or pickup option, product variant, or visible promotion changed before concluding that the base price changed.
- The screenshot does not show why the price was lower: Capture the visible offer details and record relevant Circle or sale terms alongside the image.
- An alert or screenshot shows a price that is no longer available: Reopen the live page and check the current price. Target’s match policy requires a valid price at the time of the request and allows verification.
- A price-match request is rejected because you show an image: Use the current online price on your mobile device for Target to verify; the policy does not accept screenshots or pictures as proof.
- A tracker appears not to check when expected: PriceDropCatch states that its default 30-minute checks run while Chrome is open. Treat this as the vendor’s stated behavior, and revisit the product page rather than assuming continuous monitoring.
