Use Playwright to read the price and offer details shown on a product page, then save a screenshot as visual evidence of that page at a particular time. Store the parsed amount and context as structured data alongside the image: a screenshot alone is not a price-history database, does not show whether an offer remained available, and does not establish that automated collection is permitted.
Choose the data route before you automate
For recurring price monitoring, first check whether the marketplace offers an official data route you can use. APIs can return structured product or offer fields; Playwright is useful when you need to inspect a rendered page and preserve visual context. Treat each marketplace independently: official documentation for one does not establish access rights or terms for another.

Amazon.in Associates Central’s help page, accessed October 3, 2026, describes an initial PA-API allowance of one request per second per account, with additional capacity linked to attributed shipped revenue and a stated maximum of ten requests per second. These are changeable account guidelines, not a guaranteed allowance for every user; consult Amazon’s current PA-API rate guidance before setting a polling schedule.

The example below uses JavaScript with Playwright. It opens a product URL, reads a price element selected by CSS, and saves both a focused price screenshot and a full-page screenshot. Replace the example URL and selectors with values appropriate to the marketplace page you are authorized to access. Marketplace markup can change, so validate selectors against the actual page rather than assuming a universal price selector.

- Install Playwright:
npm install playwright, then install a browser withnpx playwright install chromium. - Set the target and selector: provide a product detail page URL and a selector for the displayed price. A product title selector and a seller or offer selector are useful additions when available.
- Run the script: save as
track-price.jsand runnode track-price.js.

The script stores the visible price text rather than claiming to normalize every possible Indian currency or discount format. Add marketplace-specific parsing and validation before using values for sorting, alerts, or reports.
Record enough context to interpret the observation
Store each observation as a record separate from the screenshot. Useful fields include marketplace, stable product identifier, page URL, capture timestamp, displayed amount and currency, visible seller or offer, and promotion text. This is an implementation recommendation, not a schema required by Playwright or by the marketplaces. Distinguish the product from a particular seller’s offer: the same product can appear with different sellers, prices, or promotions.

Pick the screenshot scope that answers your question
- Element screenshot: use a locator’s
screenshot()for a compact image of the price or offer area. It is easy to review, but may omit the product identity or nearby offer terms. - Viewport screenshot: use
page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png' })to preserve the visible screen and surrounding context. - Full-page screenshot: use
page.screenshot({ path: 'full.png', fullPage: true })to include scrollable content below the fold. A long page can produce a large image, and dynamic content may not all be visible or loaded at the same time.

Prices, sellers, promotions, and page content can change between visits. A capture documents what your browser displayed at capture time; it does not prove that the amount was available to every shopper, remained available afterward, or was the final checkout price. Preserve the visible offer context and timestamp so later comparisons are interpretable.

Use page structure or locators to extract text, and screenshots for visual review. Playwright MCP documentation describes accessibility snapshots as structured page information for understanding and interacting with page elements, while screenshots provide visual context; see Playwright MCP documentation. For visual regression checks, Playwright’s screenshot assertions wait for two consecutive page screenshots to match before comparing against an expected image. Those assertions are part of the Playwright test runner, not a substitute for storing price observations; see Playwright visual comparisons.
Keep collection authorized and operationally conservative
Use APIs where they are available to you and fit your use case, and review the relevant program terms before collecting or storing data. An official endpoint and a rendered page are different routes with different data shapes and conditions. Do not treat the existence of a public product page as permission for automated collection. If you encounter a denial, CAPTCHA, or other access restriction, stop and confirm the authorized route rather than trying to bypass it.

Common failures and practical fixes
