Compare preserved source values—not just a single overwritten address—to find mismatches, then review conflicts before changing your canonical record. This is a practical cross-site workflow; Google’s vehicle listing and ad requirements apply to those Google programs, not to every automotive website.
Build one record for each dealership location
A dealer group, OEM, aggregator, or marketing team should begin with a canonical table in which each row represents one physical dealership location. Do not use the dealer group or brand as the location identity: one organization may operate many addresses, and similar names alone are not enough to establish that two pages describe the same place.

| Field | What to retain |
|---|---|
| Internal location ID | A stable key chosen by your organization. Do not change it when a public-facing name or address changes. |
| Presented name | The dealership name as shown on each source, preserving source-specific wording. |
| Full address | The raw address, including suite or unit and country where supplied. |
| Phone and website | Values as shown by each source; keep separate source values when they differ. |
| Source page URL | The exact page where the location details were observed. |
| Observation date | When the page was checked, so a value is not mistaken for current without evidence. |
| Google identifier, if relevant | Google Place ID or Maps URL, plus the mapping from your internal ID to Google store_code when using Google vehicle listings or ads. |
Keep raw values alongside normalized comparison values. Normalization can make formatting differences easier to spot—for example, punctuation or postal-code formatting—but should not erase the original evidence. Retain unit and country details rather than dropping them, and do not merge locations solely because their names look alike.
Compare source records without losing the audit trail
- Collect the name, address, phone, website, and exact source-page URL for each location on every relevant automotive website.
- Record the date each source was checked and retain its original values in a source-specific row or set of columns.
- Compare normalized address and phone fields to flag likely changes, duplicates, or disagreements.
- Review each conflict against the source pages before updating the organization’s canonical value. Record what changed and which source supports the decision.
- Keep the prior value and change history rather than silently replacing it; this makes later corrections and source rechecks possible.
This approach is a reasoned recordkeeping workflow, not a method prescribed by Google or a field-tested monitoring system. The official Google guidance describes how dealers supply and match location information for Google products; it does not establish a universal crawler, monitoring tool, or update interval for arbitrary automotive websites.

What Google requires for vehicle listings and ads
Google’s matching rules matter when your goal includes Google vehicle listings or vehicle ads. They should not be treated as general rules for keeping records consistent across other automotive sites.
Vehicle listing feeds and website structured data
Google’s vehicle listing onboarding guidance describes feed files and website structured data as separate ways to provide inventory. The feed matching information includes store_code, dealership name, and postal address; Google strongly recommends a Place ID or Maps URL to identify the Business Profile with less ambiguity. The guide says multiple dealerships can be included in one feed and partitioned by dealership.

The same onboarding guidance characterizes structured data as easier to implement and maintain, while warning that Google may take longer to detect changes from websites. Feed uploads can provide richer detail and dedicated support, but creating and maintaining a feed may require development work. These are trade-offs within Google’s vehicle listing program, not a recommendation that every organization should use one method for all its sites.

For vehicle ads, Google associates a vehicle with a location through store_code matched to Business Profile or store-data location information. Google’s integration guidance distinguishes dealers and dealer groups from OEMs and aggregators: advertisers that own the dealership listing can link Business Profiles, while advertisers such as OEMs and aggregators that do not own the listing should use a store data source. Some multi-dealership setups can use multi-client account structures. Consult Google’s current vehicle ads integration guidance for the applicable account arrangement.

Google Ads store data and provider matching
Google Ads Help calls linking the dealership’s Google Business Profile account “the most comprehensive means of providing your dealer locations.” Its store data instructions also describe a store data source as an alternative: store_code and store_address are required, while store name, phone, and website URL are recommended. The address must be a full street address, including country, and unique within the submitted data.
Google’s dealership provider guidance says a provider must be Google-approved and inventory successfully matched to the Business Profile before it can appear as a provider. If a dealer does not select a preferred provider, Google may choose one using data quality, including completeness and freshness. Confirm current program eligibility and policies before diagnosing an old feed or onboarding guide as the cause of a problem.
Map your internal IDs to Google without confusing the systems
- Keep your organization’s stable location ID as the primary key in your own records.
- Where Google vehicle listings or ads are in scope, map that key to the Google store_code used in the relevant feed or store data.
- Save the Google Place ID or Maps URL when available, so the location can be distinguished from similarly named dealerships.
- Check that the relevant Business Profile is claimed or verified and that the program is available for your geography before troubleshooting a match.
- Maintain Google feed or structured-data work separately from third-party website monitoring; success in one does not prove that other sites are current.
Google’s vehicle listing program information and vehicle ads guidance describe distinct program rules and matching steps. Availability and eligibility can change, so verify current requirements for your region and account rather than assuming an older onboarding page still covers your situation.

Capture location pages when manual review is not enough
For a small set of pages, a browser and a spreadsheet may be sufficient: open each location page, record its details and URL, and date the check. For recurring review across many sites, an optional location-data management or monitoring system may help, but compare the capabilities that matter to your workflow: site coverage, change history, duplicate resolution, source retention, and export. No particular vendor’s ability to monitor arbitrary automotive websites is established here.
