Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTrack multilingual AI-search visibility with a repeatable prompt set, not a single English query. Run equivalent buyer and reputation questions in each target language and market, across the AI systems your customers use, then save the complete answers and visible source links. Count three signals separately: whether the answer names your brand, whether it cites one of your URLs, and whether an official search report records an impression or citation.
Attach the platform or model, language, market, exact prompt, date, and run number to every observation. This makes changes auditable and prevents an uncited mention from being mistaken for a website visit—or one provider’s report from being treated as a universal AI-search score.

What “brand visibility” means in AI search
An AI answer can discuss a company without linking to it, link to a page without naming the company in the prose, do both, or do neither. Those are different events and need different fields in your tracking sheet.

|---|---|---|---|
| Brand mention | The answer text names the company, product, or unambiguous variant. | Whether the generated response included the brand in that prompt context. | Whether the statement is accurate, influential, clicked, or linked. |
| Visible citation | A source link or cited domain points to your page or another page about your brand. | Which sources the system exposed as support. | All times the model used your information without showing a link. |
| Search impression | An official provider report records a link shown in a supported generative feature. | Provider-specific exposure of a URL to search users. | Unlinked answer-text mentions or activity on other platforms. |
| Referral or click | Your analytics records a visit after a visible link is selected. | Traffic that can be attributed to the available referral data. | Untracked browsing, copied URLs, or decisions made without a click. |
Keep the answer text, mention status, cited URLs, and impression or referral data as separate columns. A citation is evidence of source exposure; it is not proof that the brand was recommended. Conversely, a mention without a citation is still a meaningful visibility observation even though provider dashboards may not count it.

Why language, market, and model must be tracked together
Language changes the entities and products an answer retrieves, the local competitors it considers, and the wording used to describe reputation or availability. A 2026 preprint by Dmitrij Żatuchin, The Language Blind Spot, tested 12 European languages and found a study-specific increase in recommendation share of 0.80 when queries moved from English to a brand’s home language for local champions, versus 0.15 for global multinationals. The figures describe that experiment’s generated outputs, not a forecast for any particular company.
The same work found more response-stability variation by model than by language in a five-iteration replication on a 20-brand subset: η² was 0.32 for model and 0.01 for language. In practical terms, do not attribute every change to translation. Repeat the same prompt under the same model or platform before interpreting a difference.
Platform-language combinations can also expose different sources. A 2026 preprint by Yibo Li, Enci Guan, Yuedan Cai, Geng Liu, and Francesco Pierri reported median cosine similarity of 0.701–0.813 for matched-query answers across Baidu and Google settings while finding low overlap in visible host-domain inventories. Similar answer meaning therefore does not guarantee similar citations. Record answer semantics and source domains independently.
Define the monitoring scope before you collect results
Write a one-page scope statement so a zero is not confused with an unobserved system. Include:
- Markets: countries or regions where you sell, support customers, or manage reputation.
- Languages: the language used by customers in each market, including major regional variants where wording or availability differs.
- AI surfaces: the specific Google Search generative features, Bing and Copilot experiences, conversational services, or other systems that your team can reliably access.
- Models and interfaces: the named model or product surface, edition if shown, and any logged-in or regional setting that could change output.
- Cadence: a fixed schedule such as weekly or monthly, with an explicit run number and timestamp.
- Eligibility: which prompt, language, and system combinations were actually available. Mark unsupported combinations as “not observed,” never as zero mentions.
Use the same scope for trend comparisons. If a platform changes its answer format or stops serving a language, close the old series with a dated note and start a new one rather than silently combining incompatible observations.
Build a multilingual prompt library from real customer questions
Start with the questions buyers and stakeholders already ask. A useful library contains several intents instead of a list of brand names.
Category and recommendation prompts
- “What are the best [category] options in [market]?”
- “Which providers are suitable for a [specific use case] in [country]?”
- “What should a small business consider when choosing [category]?”
Comparison and positioning prompts
- “Compare the leading [category] services for [audience].”
- “How does [brand] differ from other options for [need]?”
- “Which choice has local support, pricing, or compliance for [market]?”
Reputation and problem-solving prompts
- “What is [brand] known for, and what are common complaints?”
- “Is [product] suitable for [constraint or problem]?”
- “What alternatives should someone consider if [failure condition] occurs?”
Branded and unbranded balance
Keep prompts that name your brand alongside prompts that do not. Include positive, neutral, and comparison framings, plus local-market and general questions. A branded prompt tests factual retrieval about the company; an unbranded prompt tests whether the system volunteers it. Do not change wording between runs unless the change is itself recorded as a new prompt version.

Localize intent, not just words
Give the source wording and every translation an identifier. Have a native speaker adapt idiom, category vocabulary, spelling, currency or geography references, and the way people ask for recommendations in that market. Translate and back-translate a subset to detect intent drift. The multilingual study that informed this workflow used semantic-equivalence checks for its translated templates; treat that as a quality-control example, not a requirement to reproduce its exact design.
Store the original, localized version, translator or reviewer, date approved, and any notes about terms that have no exact equivalent. Freeze an approved version for the monitoring period so a changing translation is not mistaken for a market trend.
Run each audit as a reproducible observation
Use a controlled procedure for every language and system. The following sequence is sufficient for a manual audit or a script that records the same fields.
- Select the scheduled run. Record the UTC timestamp, local market, interface, model name if exposed, account state, and run number.
- Open the intended regional experience. Note the country, language, device type, and any search or safety setting that could affect results.
- Paste the exact approved prompt. Do not “improve” grammar during the run. Copy the prompt from the library and save its version identifier.
- Save the complete answer. Preserve headings, lists, disclaimers, follow-up suggestions, and the order in which brands appear. A screenshot can supplement, but should not replace, machine-readable text where policy permits.
- Capture every visible source. Record the displayed title, full URL, domain, and the position or section where each link appears. Do not infer a citation from a domain that is mentioned only in prose.
- Code the brand outcome. Mark whether the brand was mentioned, where it first appeared, whether it was recommended or merely described, and whether the statement is factual, evaluative, or ambiguous. Apply the same coding rules to every language.
- Record follow-on activity. If a link is selected, retain the available referral or analytics identifier without treating a missing click as proof that nobody acted.
- Repeat the run. Execute the same prompt again when you need a stability estimate. Keep each answer as a separate observation; never overwrite an earlier response.
Generated answers vary. Report the number of prompts and runs behind every percentage and retain raw outputs so a later reviewer can distinguish a real shift from one unusually worded answer.

Calculate mention and citation rates without hiding the denominator
For a defined slice—such as one language, country, model, and month—use simple counts:
- Mention rate: runs in which the brand appears in the answer divided by eligible runs observed.
- Citation rate: runs containing at least one visible link to a specified brand URL or domain divided by eligible runs.
- Co-occurrence rate: runs containing both a brand mention and a brand citation divided by eligible runs.
- First-position share: runs where the brand is the first named option divided by runs containing at least one brand, if order is meaningful for that prompt type.
Show the numerator and denominator beside every rate. For example, “French, France, system A: 18 of 40 runs mentioned the brand” is auditable; “45% visibility” without a sample is not. Separate prompt-level results from run-level results when the same prompt is repeated, and label the aggregation method.
| Slice | Keep separate | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Language | Prompt language and localized prompt version | Translation and local vocabulary can change retrieval. |
| Market | Country or region and regional interface | Availability, competitors, and source exposure are geographic. |
| System/model | Provider, product surface, and model where available | Model variation can exceed language variation in repeated tests. |
| Prompt intent | Recommendation, comparison, reputation, and problem-solving | A brand can perform well in one intent and poorly in another. |
| Time | Run date, cadence, and prompt version | Platform behavior and content change over time. |
Use official reports for the signals they actually measure
Google Search Console
Google Search Console’s current Search Generative AI performance report includes impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode. Its available groupings include page, country, date, and device. Google notes the standard Search performance report’s data limitations, excludes Search Labs experiments, and may not show the report for sites without enough impressions.

An impression here means a link to your site was shown to users in a supported generative feature. It does not count every answer-text mention without a link, and it does not cover other providers. Export the report with its date range and grouping, then place it beside—not inside—the manual mention log.
Bing Webmaster Tools
Bing’s AI Performance report covers content used in Copilot, Bing AI-generated summaries, and selected partner experiences. It reports pages cited and grouped grounding queries. Bing describes those grounding-query rows as grouped phrases, not complete user-question transcripts, so do not present them as the exact prompts users typed.
Keep Bing citation counts separate from Google impressions. They answer different questions and have different coverage. A rise in one is not evidence that all AI systems became more likely to mention the brand.
What the dashboards cannot provide
- A universal count of uncited mentions across every chatbot or search interface.
- A complete census of all prompts users asked.
- A guarantee that a cited page was read or trusted.
- A stable historical series when a provider changes supported features or reporting definitions.
Date every export and check the provider’s current documentation before comparing periods. Third-party software should be evaluated against those definitions; providers do not give outside tools access to private ranking or AI-system internals.
Choose a collection method by coverage and auditability
| Method | Strength | Questions to verify | Typical limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual audit | Shows the exact answer, interface, and visible links. | Can the reviewer save raw text, screenshots, timestamps, and regional settings consistently? | Labor-intensive and difficult to scale. |
| Official platform reporting | Uses provider-defined impression or citation data. | Which features, countries, pages, and dates are included? | Does not measure every uncited mention or provider. |
| Specialist monitoring software | Can schedule prompts, repeat runs, and segment results. | Which systems and languages are covered? Are prompts localized by native speakers? Are raw answers, URLs, timestamps, and exports available? How is sampling disclosed? | Coverage and methodology vary; marketing may imply broader access than the provider supplies. |
Reject any method that cannot show its source data, sampling cadence, language coverage, and limitations. A polished dashboard with no prompt or answer archive cannot explain an unexpected change.

Measurement cannot compensate for missing or contradictory language versions. Google’s guidance recommends a distinct URL for each language, correctly signaled variants through hreflang or sitemaps, clearly labeled page language, and an obvious user-visible language switcher. Avoid automatic language redirects that hide a variant from users or crawlers.
Google states, “Google uses the visible content of your page to determine its language.” Make the main copy, navigation, title, structured data where applicable, and important product facts consistent in the target language. Do not rely on a language attribute while leaving the visible page in another language.

Audit facts that an AI system may repeat: company name variants, product availability, support hours, locations, prices and currencies, certifications, restrictions, and the relationship between regional entities. Correct contradictions on your own pages and on authoritative third-party sources where you control the information. A page that is technically discoverable but factually inconsistent can produce mentions that are visible yet wrong.

When mention rate is low in every language
Check whether the prompts actually match the category and whether the company’s pages state a clear use case, geography, and audience. Improve useful, expert, people-first content and ordinary technical SEO fundamentals. Do not add artificial brand references solely to trigger generated answers.
When mentions rise but citations remain low
Review whether the answer is relying on third-party descriptions, and whether your relevant pages are crawlable, language-specific, and explicit about the facts being discussed. Compare the visible source domains with your own pages; a mention without a citation is not a Search Console impression.
When citations rise but the answer is inaccurate
Inspect the cited passages and update the source information that is wrong or outdated. Record the inaccurate claim and language rather than coding the run as a simple success. Consistent, accessible facts matter more than manufactured mentions.
When one model changes sharply
Repeat the prompt under the same model and compare with another system only as a separate slice. The observed model effect in the 2026 preprint is a reason to test stability, not a universal ranking of providers.
Common tracking mistakes and their fixes
- English-only monitoring: Add localized prompts for each revenue or reputation market and preserve the translation review record.
- One answer treated as truth: Repeat runs and publish counts, dates, and prompt versions.
- Mention and citation merged: Use separate fields and rates; a visible URL is not required for a mention.
- Dashboard totals combined: Keep Google impressions, Bing citations, manual mentions, and referrals in separate series.
- Unsupported combinations coded as zero: Mark the system-language-market cell as unavailable or unobserved.
- Prompt drift: Freeze approved wording and version every intentional change.
- Translation drift: Have native reviewers check idiom, market references, and category terms; back-translate a sample.
- Unclear sentiment labels: Define factual, positive, neutral, negative, and ambiguous codes before the first run, and use sentiment only when coders can apply the rule consistently.
- Overstated conclusions: Treat preprints and small samples as bounded evidence about model outputs, not proof of human preference or purchase behavior.
- Missing raw evidence: Save the exact answer and visible URLs so another reviewer can reproduce the coding decision.

How to report results responsibly
A useful monthly report has one chart or table per system and language, with the numerator, denominator, date range, prompt version, and run count visible. Show mention rate and citation rate side by side but do not combine them into a single “AI share” number unless you define a new metric and preserve its components.
Explain missing data directly: “The system did not expose this language in the scheduled period” is different from “zero mentions.” Note interface, model, or provider changes at the point they occur. If the prompt set expands, start a new baseline or report old and new sets separately.
Interpret the 2026 findings with their boundaries. The European-language study used specified grounded models, templates, and a limited replication; the Baidu/Google study examined particular platform-language settings. Neither establishes a universal ranking of brands, languages, or providers, and neither measures public opinion or actual buying decisions.

Google Search Central recommends effective SEO and people-first content and explicitly says, “For Google Search, you can ignore tactics like ‘chunking’ content, creating unnecessary AI text files (like llms.txt), or pursuing inauthentic mentions.” A monitoring program should therefore diagnose discoverability, language quality, and factual consistency—not create low-quality references to inflate a count.
Use the observations to decide where customers lack clear, accurate information. Improve the underlying page, its language version, and the authoritative facts that systems can verify. Then rerun the unchanged prompt set and document what changed.
Bottom line for a multilingual measurement program
Build a fixed library of localized buyer and reputation prompts, run it repeatedly across the actual systems and markets you serve, and preserve every answer and visible link. Report brand mentions, citations, official impressions, and referrals as separate measurements with explicit denominators. Segment by language, market, model, prompt intent, and date; mark unsupported combinations as missing rather than zero. Official Google and Bing reports are valuable provider-specific signals, while manual or specialist monitoring supplies the uncited answer evidence they do not cover. With clear language-specific URLs, consistent facts, and people-first content, the resulting trend line becomes an audit trail you can act on rather than a misleading universal score.
