Build a fixed set of realistic buyer prompts, run the same prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini on a consistent schedule, and save every answer. Track whether your brand appears, how it is described, which competitors appear, and what sources the platform cites. This gives you a repeatable sample of answers—not a count of every conversation on those services.
What this tracking method can—and cannot—tell you
A prompt-based check measures the selected prompts and runs under the conditions you recorded. For a given engine and period, you can calculate a mention rate as the number of runs where the brand appeared divided by the total runs. Report the denominator and prompt panel alongside the rate; it is not the brand’s share of all ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini conversations. Tracking guidance also notes that there is no comprehensive real-time feed of mentions in this context (TechRadar Pro’s recurring-prompt guidance; Tracemetry’s sampling guidance).
Keep the measurements separate: whether the brand appeared, its prominence and context, the competitors named, the cited sources, and how consistently the result recurs. A citation does not prove the platform relied only on that source, and a mention does not by itself mean the answer recommended the brand positively.
Build a stable prompt panel
Choose questions real buyers ask
Include category-discovery prompts and comparison questions that reflect actual customer needs. Add branded prompts only if you also want to see what an engine says when the user already knows your brand. A panel should represent the questions you care about, not every possible way to phrase them; the workflow guidance does not establish a universally correct panel size.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep wording and panel changes auditable
Save each prompt exactly as written and assign the panel a version. Rerun the same wording on a fixed cadence. If you add, revise, or retire prompts, document the change as a new panel version so a changed sample is not mistaken for a change in visibility. Practical guidance supports repeatable prompts and schedules, but this is a measurement method rather than an official standard (TechRadar Pro).
Capture each prompt-engine run
Use one record for each prompt on each platform, and retain the complete answer or a durable capture. A spreadsheet is enough to begin. Record:

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Run date and time, including timezone.
- Platform and any visible mode or search setting.
- Exact prompt wording and panel version.
- Raw answer text or a durable capture.
- Whether the brand appears, with the relevant passage or location.
- How the answer describes the brand and whether it recommends it; if you label sentiment, use documented rules.
- Competitors named and their relative prominence.
- Every cited URL or source displayed by the platform.
- Known conditions such as geography, language, account state, and other interface differences.
- Reviewer and notes for ambiguous cases.
Keep classification rules stable and log revisions. Human review helps when a brand name is ambiguous, the answer describes a company without naming it, or the tone depends on context. Preserving the original answer lets another reviewer check how you classified it rather than relying on a summary score alone.
Compare results without collapsing the differences
Compare each engine separately before calculating any combined summary. For each engine and period, examine:

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Mention presence: Was the brand named, and in which prompts?
- Prominence and context: Was it a passing mention, a comparison option, or a recommendation? What did the answer say about it?
- Competitors: Which alternatives appeared, and how prominently?
- Cited sources: Which URLs or source names were shown?
- Stability: Did the result recur across repeated runs?
If you use a rate, state the calculation plainly: branded runs divided by total runs for that engine, panel, and period. Show the number of runs and the panel version. Do not infer a trend from one answer: model behavior, retrieval, prompt interpretation, geography, and account or interface conditions can vary between observations.
Use Google Search Console as a separate series
Google Search Console’s Generative AI performance report measures site impressions in Google Search’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google describes it as data about how a site performs in generative AI features on Google Search (Google Search Console Help: “Generative AI performance report (Search)”). The report supports views by page, country, device, and date, and data can be exported. It concerns links to the verified site property shown in those features—not every brand mention in an answer.

Such as compatible with MacBook Pro/Air 2023/2022, Thunderbolt 4/3 Devices,Apple MagSafe Watch 9/8/7/SE/Ultra, iPad Pro 2022/2021, Samsung Galaxy S23/S20/S10, and iPhone 17/16/15 Pro. Plug and play
- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Google said rollout of the report to websites worldwide was complete as of August 31, 2026. A property may still have no report data if it has not received enough impressions or is excluded from those features. Keep this series separate from prompt mention rates: an impression for a site link and a brand mention in a sampled answer have different scopes and denominators.
Downloading data through the API
The Search Console API can be used to download performance data for a custom workflow. Google documents a limit of 50,000 rows per day per property and search type (Google Search Console API export documentation).

Read totals with care
Google notes that chart totals can use property-level aggregation while page views can use page-level aggregation, and recent data may be preliminary. Check the aggregation and data-status notes before interpreting differences between report views (Google Search Console Help: “Performance report (Search results): About the data”).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to automate
Scheduled manual checks and a spreadsheet are a reasonable starting point. Consider a monitoring service when the number of prompts, brands, or runs makes manual capture burdensome. Vendors describe products that store recurring prompts and track mentions across answer engines, but those descriptions are vendor claims, not independent confirmation of accuracy or complete platform coverage (Surva.ai’s Brand Mentions Monitoring documentation).
Before relying on a dashboard, check which engines and modes it actually covers, how it handles geography and prompt wording, whether it preserves answers and citations, whether exports are available, and how much history it retains. No particular provider’s accuracy or full coverage is established here. Automation can make collection easier; it does not make a sample comprehensive.
Quick Recap
Common interpretation mistakes
- Calling a panel’s mention rate the share of all conversations on an AI platform.
- Combining Search Console impressions with prompt-based mention rates or describing either as the other.
- Treating a cited URL as proof that it was the platform’s only source or that the mention was favorable.
- Calling a trend from a single run without accounting for prompt, retrieval, geography, or interface variation.
- Promising that changing a page will make a brand appear in a particular engine. The tracking methods described here measure outcomes; they do not establish a guaranteed ranking mechanism.
