The notification tells you when to check the market; it is not an order and does not guarantee a trade.
- Use a tracker or exchange you already trust and understand.
- Select the exact Bitcoin market, such as BTC/USD where available.
- Set a threshold or movement condition that would actually change your next decision.
- Choose push, in-app, or email delivery and enable it on both the service and your device when required.
- Decide whether the alert is one-time or recurring, then review and retire it when it no longer matters.
What a Bitcoin price alert actually does
An alert is a rule that watches a service’s price or market data and sends a notification when the selected condition is met. The condition may be a price moving above a target, falling below one, or changing by a percentage. Some products also offer predefined alerts or automatic movement subscriptions.

Threshold alerts
A threshold alert uses an absolute price. You might ask to be notified when BTC/USD rises above one level or drops below another. The number is interpreted in the market and currency you selected, so a target in dollars is not interchangeable with a target in euros or with a price from a different exchange feed.

Percentage and movement alerts
A percentage alert reacts to movement rather than a particular dollar amount. This can be useful when the market level has changed since you created the alert, but the size of the move is still important to you. The exact percentage choices and time window depend on the service; do not assume that two apps calculate movement in the same way.

One-time, recurring and automatic behavior
A one-time alert stops after it fires. A recurring alert remains available for later crossings of the condition. Automatic movement alerts are a separate feature: the service selects or manages the trigger for you instead of leaving you with one fixed target. Read the description in the app so you know which behavior you are enabling.
Notification is not execution
Coinbase states its rule plainly: Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.
A notification does not promise that a displayed price is still available when you open the app, and it does not submit a buy or sell instruction. Treat it as a prompt to inspect the relevant market and decide what, if anything, to do.
Compare the main alert options
The following features are documented by the services’ help material. Names, menus, availability by country, and notification choices can change, so use the current screen in your account as the final authority.

Decide what you are tracking before creating an alert
Choose the market and quote currency
“Bitcoin price” is not one universal number. Select the BTC market shown by your chosen service and the quote currency you intend to follow, such as BTC/USD where that market is available. Different services can use different market definitions or data sources, so an alert set in one app may not fire at exactly the same displayed number in another.

Choose a useful trigger
Set a level that would cause you to check something meaningful: perhaps a planned review point, a risk limit you monitor, or a percentage move that warrants reading the latest market information. Avoid placing several targets a few cents apart. Narrow spacing can create notifications that do not change your decision and makes it harder to notice the alert that matters.
Decide whether it should repeat
Use one-time behavior for a single event, such as checking a target once. Use recurring behavior when you intentionally want later crossings to notify you again. Automatic movement subscriptions are convenient for broad market awareness, but they are not the same as a fixed price target and may have their own expiration rules.
A service-neutral setup workflow
- Open the app or website you already use. Staying with a familiar service reduces the chance that you overlook account, market, or notification settings. Pick another service only when it offers the trigger or delivery method you need.
- Find the Bitcoin asset and exact market. Search for Bitcoin, open the coin or market page, and confirm the quote currency and any exchange or market selector shown by the product.
- Open the alert control. It may be labeled Price alert, Alert, a bell icon, or a similar control. If the product offers both predetermined and custom alerts, choose custom when you need your own level.
- Enter the condition. Select above or below for an absolute target, or percentage/movement when that is the better expression of your plan. Check the unit before saving.
- Select delivery. Push is useful for a prompt check, in-app notices keep everything inside the service, and email is easier to review later. Some products require a device permission in addition to an in-app switch.
- Choose duration and save. Confirm one-time versus recurring behavior. Re-read the summary for market, currency, direction, target, and delivery before saving.
- Record why it exists. A short note in your own system—such as “review allocation” or “check news”—keeps the alert tied to a decision rather than to an impulse. Do not treat the trigger itself as a trading instruction.
Set a custom alert in the Coinbase mobile app
1. Put Bitcoin on your watchlist
Coinbase documents watchlist membership as a prerequisite for its price alerts. Open the asset list, find Bitcoin, and add it to the watchlist before looking for the alert control. If Bitcoin is not on that list, a saved-looking setting may not deliver the notification described in the help page.

From the watched asset, choose the option for a custom price alert. Select whether the alert should fire when the price moves above or below your target and enter the BTC market and currency you mean to monitor. Coinbase also offers predetermined price alerts; those are different from a level you enter yourself.

3. Select notification channels
Choose among the notification methods the app presents, such as push, in-app, or email. For push delivery, allow notifications for the Coinbase app in the phone’s operating-system settings as well as in Coinbase’s own preferences. If you choose email, check that the account address is current and that filtering rules are not diverting the message.
4. Check and maintain the alert
Review the saved alert in your watchlist or notification settings. Remove an old target after the reason for it has passed, and create a new one when your monitoring plan changes. The alert will notify you of the condition; it will not place an order.

Custom one-time or recurring targets
CoinGecko’s tutorial says an account is required to set app alerts. Sign in, search for Bitcoin, and open its coin page. Use the price-alert control to enter a target and choose whether the alert should run once or recur. Confirm the displayed currency before saving, because the same coin can be viewed in different quote currencies.

CoinGecko support describes automatic alerts after you search for and select a coin in the app. Enable the feature and allow notifications at the device level. These automatic subscriptions are documented as expiring after 45 days, so they are not a permanent replacement for a recurring custom target; revisit the setting if you still want coverage after that period.

Check the phone permission separately
If an automatic alert is enabled but no banner appears, open the phone’s notification settings and verify that CoinGecko is allowed to send alerts. Also inspect any focus, do-not-disturb, battery, or background-activity rule that could silence or delay app notifications. The service cannot override a device-level block.

- Open the Bitcoin coin page on CoinGecko’s website.
- Select the page’s alert control.
- Choose a custom price amount or a percentage option, then enter the target and currency shown in the form.
- Save the alert and verify that it appears in your account’s alert list.
CoinGecko’s support documentation says a notification arrives once the selected level is reached. Web alerts and mobile alerts are separate experiences, so decide where you want to receive the message and keep the relevant account and browser or app permissions active.
Configure market alerts in Kraken Pro
Choose the market and trigger parameters
Kraken Pro documents market alerts on both web and mobile. Open the market you intend to follow, select the alert function, and choose the available trigger parameters and price level. Read the confirmation carefully: an alert tied to one market is not automatically a subscription to every Bitcoin market or currency.

Enable mobile push at two levels
On a phone, allow push notifications for Kraken Pro in the operating system and turn on push delivery inside the Kraken Pro app. Both settings matter. If either is disabled, the app may have the alert saved while the phone remains silent. The available menu labels can differ by operating-system version, so use the current notification settings for your device.
Use the web interface when you need a larger view
The web version can be useful for confirming the selected market and trigger parameters on a larger screen. Saving an alert on the web does not remove the need to configure mobile permissions if you expect a phone notification.
Build a low-noise alert system
Keep only decision-relevant alerts
Start with one or a few conditions that would prompt a specific check-in. An upper threshold might tell you to review a plan; a lower threshold might tell you to inspect exposure or news. The purpose is to replace repeated chart checks with a deliberate signal, not to reproduce every small fluctuation as a notification.
Separate monitoring from action
Write down what you will inspect after an alert: the market page, your account exposure, recent news, or a pre-existing plan. This pause helps prevent the notification itself from becoming an impulsive buy-or-sell command. A percentage alert can tell you that movement is large enough to investigate, but it cannot explain why the move happened.
Use different channels intentionally
Push is the most interruptive option, while in-app notices wait for your next visit and email can be searched or filtered. Select the least disruptive channel that still suits the urgency of your own plan. If you use several services, avoid enabling duplicate push alerts for the same condition unless you have a clear reason.
When an alert does not arrive
- Confirm the condition was actually met. Check the same market, quote currency, direction, and target. A BTC/USD condition does not necessarily match a BTC/EUR display or another venue’s price.
- Check the alert’s status. Look in the service’s alert list for a disabled, expired, one-time, or automatic subscription state. CoinGecko automatic alerts are documented to expire after 45 days.
- Review app permissions. Enable notifications in the service and in the phone’s operating-system settings. Kraken Pro specifically requires both levels for mobile push; CoinGecko automatic alerts also require device notifications.
- Inspect interruption controls. Focus or do-not-disturb modes, notification summaries, battery restrictions, and background-data limits can prevent a banner or delay it. Adjust them only if that fits your privacy and battery preferences.
- Check email delivery if selected. Verify the account address and search spam, promotions, or filtered folders. An email channel is different from a push permission.
- Do not infer guaranteed timing. The cited help pages describe alert features, not an uninterrupted or exact-real-time delivery guarantee. Treat a late or missing notification as a reason to verify settings and the market directly.
Review and retire alerts
Open your alert list periodically and remove targets that no longer represent a decision. A one-time alert that has fired should not remain as if it were recurring. Recheck automatic subscriptions before their documented expiration, and confirm that the quote currency still matches the way you review Bitcoin.
When you change phones, reinstall an app, sign out, or alter notification permissions, revisit every service that matters. Device settings can change independently of the alert rule, so a previously working push channel should not be assumed to remain enabled.
Limits you should keep in mind
Prices can differ between services and markets, and the available trigger types differ by product. None of the cited materials establishes that alerts save a particular number of hours, arrive instantly, or predict a market move. They are monitoring tools. Use the notification to open the relevant market, verify the current information, and apply your own plan.
