Use Michigan’s official ballot tracking page to check whether your absentee ballot was sent and whether your local clerk received it. Search with your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code, or use your driver’s license number.
Check your ballot status online
- Open Michigan’s ballot tracking page.
- Look up your voter record using your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code, or enter your driver’s license number.
- Find the “Absentee ballot” section. It shows the date the ballot was sent and whether the local clerk received the completed ballot.
Sign up for email notifications
To get updates about ballot activity, use the state’s ballot alert signup. Look up the voter, enter an email address, check the consent box, and submit. Notifications can cover when the clerk sends the ballot and when the clerk receives it.

Why an in-person return may not appear as received
If you return your absentee ballot at an early voting site or on Election Day, Michigan’s online tracker will not show it as “received,” and the email notification will not be sent. In that case, a missing online receipt status does not mean the ballot was lost.

Deadlines and what to do if the status is unclear
An ordinary absentee ballot must reach the local clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Military and overseas ballots follow a separate rule: they must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the clerk within six days after the election.
