Use the tracking number for the carrier that currently has the parcel. India Post and Blue Dart publish separate lookup systems, and their official pages do not describe a single, guaranteed Blue Dart–India Post handoff number. Start with the latest dispatch message from the sender, identify the current carrier, and enter that carrier’s own consignment, waybill or reference number.
If an older number stops returning events, do not assume the parcel is lost or that the number must work on the next carrier’s site. Ask the merchant or sender which carrier now holds the shipment and request the current tracking ID, then escalate through the carrier’s official support channel if necessary.

What changes when a parcel moves between carriers?
A handoff can leave you with a tracking number that belongs to an earlier leg of delivery. The parcel may continue moving while the old carrier’s page stops adding events, or the sender may provide a new number for the next carrier. India Post’s official tracker and Blue Dart’s TrackDart service are carrier-specific lookup tools; the published pages do not document a common database, universal handoff number or a standard sequence for transferring events between them.

Start with the latest dispatch information
Find the newest identifier
Check the order page, dispatch email, SMS, marketplace message or receipt for the most recent tracking link and number. A seller may have sent an initial number for one leg and later supplied a different number after a logistics transfer. Treat the newest information as the best lead, not as proof that a new number was definitely issued: the official carrier pages do not publish a guaranteed handoff procedure.
- Record every number exactly as shown, including leading zeroes.
- Write down the carrier named beside each number and the date and time of the last event.
- Open the newest carrier link rather than relying on a saved link from an earlier delivery leg.
- Keep the order number or seller reference available; it may be the value accepted as a reference number rather than a transport waybill.
Do not treat a carrier name as interchangeable
A Blue Dart waybill is not automatically an India Post consignment number, and an India Post consignment or reference number is not automatically a Blue Dart waybill. Entering an identifier in the wrong carrier’s form can produce a rejection or no record even when the parcel is moving normally.
Track a Blue Dart shipment
Choose Waybill or Ref. No. in TrackDart
Open Blue Dart’s official Tracking page, which labels the service “TrackDart.” Select Waybill when you have the transport waybill number. Select Ref. No. when the sender gave you a reference or order number. These are different lookup choices; selecting the wrong one can prevent a match.
- Go to Blue Dart Tracking.
- Choose Waybill or Ref. No. to match the identifier supplied by the sender.
- Enter the number without changing its digits. If you are checking several Blue Dart numbers, the official guidance says they can be entered separated by commas.
- Submit the search and note the latest event, its location and its recorded date or time.
Recognize a Blue Dart waybill
Blue Dart’s How to Track guidance describes a waybill as a distinct number that can vary from 8 to 11 digits. Length alone does not prove that a number is a waybill, so use the sender’s label and choose the corresponding field. A reference or order number may not follow that length pattern.

Interpret a blank or rejected result
A rejection or empty result can mean that the number belongs to another carrier, the wrong TrackDart option was selected, the shipment has not yet been entered into the system, or the sender supplied an old reference. It does not, by itself, establish that the parcel was lost. Confirm the current carrier and identifier with the sender before escalating as a delivery failure.
Track an India Post shipment
Use Track Consignment
India Post’s official Track Consignment page provides the carrier’s lookup interface. The page labels the service “Track Consignment” and offers choices for Consignment and Ref No. Choose the field that matches the number on your dispatch information.
- Open India Post Track Consignment.
- Select Consignment for the India Post consignment number, or Ref No when the sender supplied a reference number.
- Enter the identifier exactly as issued and submit the form.
- Save the most recent event and timestamp. That record is useful if you need the sender or India Post support to investigate.
Use the India Post home-page entry point
India Post’s home page labels its tracking entry “Track ‘N’ Trace.” It leads to the same general task: entering a consignment or reference identifier in India Post’s system. If a bookmarked page changes, start from the home page and select the current Track ‘N’ Trace link.
Which number should you use after a handoff?

The official pages establish these separate lookup options, but they do not establish a shared Blue Dart–India Post tracking number. A partner arrangement may exist for a particular shipment, yet the published guidance does not explain how such a handoff is represented to the recipient. Phrase any status as “the latest event in the carrier system,” not as proof that both carriers share one continuous event history.

A reliable handoff workflow
Step 1: Compare the newest and oldest messages
Place the numbers side by side. Note which message is newest, which carrier it names, and whether the number is called a waybill, consignment, reference or order number. This prevents an earlier identifier from remaining your default after the shipment has changed legs.
Step 2: Search the current carrier’s field
Use Blue Dart’s Waybill or Ref. No. option when Blue Dart is current. Use India Post’s Consignment or Ref No choice when India Post is current. Do not select a field simply because the number happens to have a familiar length.
Step 3: Capture the result precisely
Record the event wording, facility or city, and timestamp. If the page says there is no record, record that as well, including when you searched. Tracking pages do not prescribe a standard cross-carrier event timeline, so a gap between an outgoing scan and an incoming scan cannot be assigned a universal duration from the official guidance.
Step 4: Verify before changing assumptions
If an old number has no new event, check the newest message and ask the sender whether a second number exists. A stopped update is evidence that the old lookup is no longer useful; it is not evidence by itself that a new number was issued or that the parcel is missing.

Step 5: Escalate with complete information
Give support the order number, both carrier names, every tracking identifier, dispatch date, last successful event and the exact error or no-result message. This lets the carrier or merchant distinguish a wrong-field search from a genuine movement problem.

“The old carrier shows the last scan, but the new carrier shows nothing”
Confirm with the sender that the handoff has actually occurred and request the receiving carrier’s tracking ID. The official pages do not promise that the first carrier’s waybill or consignment number will be searchable on the second carrier’s site. Continue using the old number only to preserve the last known event; use the new carrier’s number for current movement once the sender supplies it.
“Blue Dart says no shipment found”
- Check that you opened TrackDart, not an unrelated third-party tracker.
- Switch between Waybill and Ref. No. only when the sender’s label supports that change.
- Re-enter the digits exactly, including any leading zeroes, and remove spaces that are not part of the number.
- If you have multiple Blue Dart numbers, try the comma-separated format described in Blue Dart’s official guidance.
- Ask the sender whether the parcel moved to India Post or whether the supplied number is only an order reference.
“India Post says the number is invalid or returns no event”
- Open the official Track Consignment page and choose Consignment or Ref No correctly.
- Check for a transcription error and compare the number with the dispatch receipt.
- Ask the sender to confirm that India Post is the current carrier, rather than the carrier for an earlier leg.
- Keep the search time and error text so India Post or the merchant can reproduce the problem.
“The page worked before, but the shipment is now too old”
Blue Dart’s official pages give conflicting online-tracking periods. The Tracking page states that shipments can be tracked for 90 days from dispatch, while How to Track states 45 days from despatch. Because those statements do not agree, do not choose one as a guaranteed cutoff. Try the live Tracking page, then contact Blue Dart for an older-shipment question.
“The status has not changed for several days”
Neither carrier’s cited guidance specifies a universal time between scans or a standard delay during a handoff. Save the last event and timestamp, ask the sender to confirm the current carrier, and escalate with the relevant identifier. Avoid inferring a delivery date from the absence of a new scan.
How to contact the carriers
India Post support
India Post’s Contact Us page lists customer care at 1800 266 6868. Agent service is listed as 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM; IVRS is listed as available 24/7 except gazetted holidays. The same page links to routes for tracking problems and complaints.
When contacting India Post, provide the consignment or reference number, the last event and its timestamp, sender and recipient details requested by the agent, and the fact that another carrier may have handled an earlier leg. Use the complaint route linked from the official contact page if ordinary tracking support does not resolve the issue.
Blue Dart support
Blue Dart’s FAQs direct shipment-information requests to Tracking. The FAQ distinguishes address-change or missed-delivery redelivery matters, which it directs to Contact Blue Dart. Use the tracking page for a status lookup and the contact route when the issue requires shipment information, a delivery intervention or an address-related request.

What a tracking result can and cannot prove
What it can show
- Whether the entered identifier is recognized by that carrier’s lookup system.
- The latest event that carrier has published, together with the location or facility when shown.
- The timestamp attached to that event.
- Whether you searched a waybill, consignment or reference field.
What it cannot establish from these pages alone
- That Blue Dart and India Post use one shared tracking database.
- That an old number must remain valid after a handoff.
- That a new number was definitely created when an old number stops updating.
- A standard number of hours or days between the final scan by one carrier and the first scan by another.
- A delivery guarantee based solely on a blank result or a delayed event.
These limits matter when explaining the situation to a seller or support agent. State the observable facts—carrier named by the latest message, number entered, result returned and time searched—rather than claiming that the parcel definitely changed carriers or was definitely lost.
Keep a handoff record
A small record makes repeated support contacts faster and reduces the chance of confusing two identifiers. Use a format such as:

Do not publish tracking numbers publicly. Share them only with the merchant, carrier or support channel that needs them.
