Use Chrome DevTools Device Mode to test the ordering journey at a few repeatable mobile widths, including 320 CSS pixels, and at the widths just above and below layout breakpoints. Check how the restaurant list, menu, item options, cart and checkout behave—not just whether the home page fits. Emulation is a quick first pass, but important flows should also be checked on a real phone and browser.
Set up a repeatable viewport test
In Chrome, open the page you want to test, open DevTools, then turn on Device Mode using the device toolbar button or the Toggle device toolbar command. Choose Responsive to enter a custom width and height, or choose a device preset. You can rotate the emulated viewport and display media-query breakpoints. Start with a small set rather than trying to emulate every phone:

- A compact phone width: use a repeatable width that represents the smaller phones your team wants to support.
- A larger phone width: check whether the page uses the extra space sensibly.
- A tablet width, if relevant: include it when navigation or columns change between phone and tablet layouts.
Those are coverage choices, not claims about which devices are most common in India. Record the width, height, browser and orientation for each run so the same cases can be repeated after a change.

Check reflow, readability and reachability
At each chosen width, inspect the restaurant listing and menu, then check the cart and checkout screens. Look for content that is clipped, overlaps, becomes too small to read, or vanishes when the layout changes. Also check for unintended horizontal scrolling. In particular, verify that prices, item descriptions, option controls, notices and the next primary action remain visible and usable.
Use 320 CSS pixels as a reflow check: information and functionality should remain available without requiring two-dimensional scrolling, except for content whose meaning or use genuinely depends on a two-dimensional layout. Its guidance is aimed at government websites and apps, so treat it as a useful reference for a private delivery site rather than a statement that GIGW itself makes the same requirements legally binding on it. Exercise the ordering journey at every width
A screenshot can show a layout defect, but it cannot establish that the order flow works. At each selected viewport, follow the site’s actual available journey as far as the test environment permits:
- Find a restaurant or open a menu.
- Open an item and select any available options or customizations.
- Add the item to the cart and confirm that the cart count or confirmation is visible.
- Open and review the cart, including quantities, prices and any notices.
- Continue to delivery details and checkout, stopping before a real purchase if the environment is not configured for test orders.
Watch for sticky bars, drawers, dialogs, validation messages and the on-screen keyboard hiding the control needed for the next step. Test the visible controls with touch interaction enabled rather than relying only on a mouse. These are useful cases to exercise; individual Indian delivery sites may have different screens and features.
Test around breakpoints and in landscape
When Device Mode shows media-query breakpoints, change the viewport width to find where the layout switches. Test just below and just above each relevant breakpoint. A page can look correct at two endpoint widths and still fail during the transition—for example, a navigation item may wrap, a cart control may move under an overlay, or a menu column may become too narrow.

Rotate the viewport to landscape and repeat the most important parts of the flow. A layout that works in portrait can leave little vertical space for a dialog, sticky action bar or open keyboard in landscape.
Try constrained loading conditions
Chrome DevTools supports CPU and network throttling. Use them as a qualitative check for loading states and layout shifts: notice whether an item action is usable while content loads, whether a late-loading image pushes controls around, and whether the page communicates progress or failure. Throttling in desktop emulation does not establish how fast or reliable the page will be on a particular phone or mobile connection.

Follow up on a real phone
Emulation is useful for repeatable viewport checks, but it does not reproduce every mobile browser API, CSS-support difference or device behavior. Chrome recommends real-device testing when certainty matters. Open the same important pages on an available phone and browser, prioritizing interactions that depend on the on-screen keyboard, location behavior, browser rendering or touch. A new phone is not necessary just to use DevTools emulation; use hardware already available to the team where possible.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The page is wider than the viewport: inspect the offending element at the failing width; check for fixed-width content, unwrapped text or an oversized image. Recheck at 320 CSS pixels and around the breakpoint.
- A control disappears after opening the cart or keyboard: repeat the interaction, not just the initial screenshot, and check whether a sticky bar, drawer or validation message is covering it. Verify the same interaction on a phone if it depends on keyboard or browser behavior.
- The layout works at preset widths but breaks between them: expose media-query breakpoints and test just above and below each layout change.
- A page looks stable in emulation but shifts on a phone: compare the browser and device, and inspect the load sequence under constrained conditions. Emulation does not guarantee equivalent hardware performance or browser behavior.
- A visual check passes but checkout cannot be completed: separate viewport testing from backend or payment testing. Continue only as far as the test environment permits; a static capture cannot verify a transaction.
