To compare an Indian bank website on desktop and mobile, capture the same public page and interaction state at recorded viewport sizes, then inspect both the screenshots and how the page behaves. Include a 320 CSS-pixel-wide check, as recommended in GIGW responsive-design guidance, but do not treat one width or a screenshot alone as proof of full compatibility. Record the browser, operating system, zoom, viewport, network conditions and capture time so another reviewer can reproduce the comparison.
Set a safe and useful test scope
Use public pages or an approved test environment
Start with pages that do not require access to a customer account: for example, the home page, product or information pages, help and contact pages, and branch or ATM locators. For formal work, ask the bank or site owner which browsers, versions, devices and operating systems are in scope, and use a bank-approved staging environment if interaction testing requires it. Do not sign in to a live customer account to produce review evidence.

GIGW provides guidance on website, application and mobile-app quality, accessibility and security. Its cybersecurity guidance says a site or app should undergo a security audit and receive clearance before production hosting; screenshot-based layout review does not replace that audit. See GIGW guidance and GIGW cybersecurity guidance.
Keep sensitive information out of captures
Do not capture credentials, account numbers, balances, personal details, OTPs or transaction information. If a permitted test flow needs data, use approved synthetic data and redact it before sharing. The sources cited here do not set a screenshot-specific redaction standard, so follow the bank’s own data-handling rules. Route security verification through the bank’s approved processes rather than treating a visual review as a security test.

Record a reproducible comparison
Before capturing, write down the page URL and state, date and time, browser and version, operating system, viewport dimensions in CSS pixels, zoom, orientation, network condition, and whether a cookie or consent banner is present. Repeat the same state at each viewport. This makes it easier to distinguish a responsive-layout difference from a changed page, a different banner state or dynamic content.
- Desktop: choose a representative desktop viewport relevant to the review.
- Mobile portrait: capture the same page at a phone-sized viewport.
- Narrow-width checkpoint: test at 320 CSS pixels. GIGW uses this as a responsive-layout checkpoint for avoiding horizontal scrolling; it is not the only size to test and does not prove compatibility by itself.
- Additional widths: add mobile landscape or an intermediate/tablet width if the layout changes at those sizes or they are part of the bank’s supported configurations.
GIGW recommends testing across relevant browsers, browser versions, operating systems, connection speeds and screen resolutions. Confirm the bank’s own supported configurations for formal work rather than assuming every bank supports the same matrix. An Indian Bank procurement document dated February 6, 2026, is one example of a bank specifying compatibility checks across browsers and devices, including mobile devices, and responsive UI checks across form factors and accessibility needs; it is not a universal requirement for all Indian banks. Capture and compare the same page
Take useful screenshots
Capture a full-page image to review content order and page length, and a viewport image when you need to inspect a particular region or control. Make sure the same region is aligned when comparing sizes. Keep the original files and give each a useful reference, such as page, viewport, browser and capture time.

Pixel-diff output can help locate changes, but should not be the sole verdict: font rendering, dynamic content and other harmless differences can create pixel changes without a layout defect.
Check usability, not just whether content fits
- Look for clipped text or controls, unexpected horizontal scrolling, and content that moves into an illogical order on a narrow screen.
- Open and close menus; check that links and buttons are reachable and usable at each size.
- Inspect form labels and control visibility. Verify text resizing, keyboard focus and navigation where those checks are in scope.
- Use suitable accessibility tools or assistive technology when the review requires it; a static screenshot cannot establish keyboard or assistive-technology behavior.
The Ministry of Finance banking accessibility guidelines excerpt addresses keyboard support, user-adjustable text size, alternate text, consistent navigation and assistive technology. RBI notification RBI/2024-25/83, dated October 11, 2024, advises payment system participants to review payment systems and devices for accessibility, while cautioning that enhancements should not compromise security. These are relevant context for review, not evidence that a screenshot alone verifies accessibility or security. Ministry of Finance banking accessibility guidelines; RBI notification RBI/2024-25/83.

When to validate on a physical phone
Browser responsive emulation is useful for repeatable viewport comparisons without buying hardware. A physical phone can reveal touch interaction or rendering behavior that emulation misses, but one handset cannot establish coverage across all devices or supported configurations. Record the exact device, OS and browser alongside its screenshots, and describe untested configurations in the report.
For customer-safety context, Bank of India advises users to verify the website address and padlock before entering credentials and to use an up-to-date browser. That advice is not a screenshot-testing standard. Bank of India safe-banking advice.

Or skip the browser setup
For a public page, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot with one GET request. Its capture options include viewport presets and custom dimensions, full-page capture, element capture, device emulation, and output as PNG, JPEG or WebP; its API also supports PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and setup. Keep the same page, viewport and state when comparing captures, and do not use this in place of an approved environment for sensitive or authenticated bank flows.

ScreenshotNeo removes known cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each of those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers screenshot tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Common problems and how to handle them
- The screenshots show different content: confirm URL, page state, consent-banner state, capture time and network condition; repeat captures in the same state.
- The mobile capture looks cramped or scrolls sideways: record the viewport in CSS pixels and inspect at 320 CSS pixels as well as the other relevant widths. Note the exact element and browser configuration rather than labeling all mobile layouts incompatible based on one capture.
- A pixel diff flags many changes: inspect the corresponding page regions manually. Dynamic content and font rendering can produce differences that are not defects.
- An interaction cannot be verified from the image: test it directly in the browser or on the physical device and record the result separately; a screenshot documents appearance, not behavior.
- A page asks for customer information or authentication: stop using a live account for evidence. Request an approved test or staging flow and synthetic data from the bank or site owner.
- The report seems to imply broad device coverage: list the browsers, versions, OSes and devices actually tested, plus gaps. One physical phone or one emulated viewport does not establish coverage of all configurations.
What the final report should say
State the tested URLs and page states, capture date and time, viewport sizes, browser and version, OS, zoom, orientation, network condition, and whether consent elements were present. Include screenshot references and issue descriptions, then clearly state which devices and configurations were not tested. Describe the result as evidence about visible layout and selected interactions—not certification, a security audit or proof of support on every device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a screenshot comparison prove that an Indian bank site is accessible?
No. Screenshots help review visible layout, but keyboard operation, screen-reader support and other accessibility behavior require appropriate direct checks.
Is 320 CSS pixels the only mobile width I need to test?
No. It is a GIGW responsive-layout checkpoint. Add widths and devices relevant to the bank’s supported configurations and the layout changes you observe.
