Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and timestamps, then compare them with what your encoder shows locally. If the audio or video is already faulty in the encoder preview or recording, investigate the encoder, its load, or its sources. If local output is healthy but YouTube reports trouble receiving the stream, test the outbound upload connection. These checks identify likely causes, not a guaranteed two-way diagnosis.
Start with the timestamped stream-health message
Open Live Control Room’s stream metrics and inspect stream health around the time the interruption occurred. YouTube displays error messages beside the Health Indicator, with timestamps; red indicates critical errors and yellow indicates moderate ones. Read the message and match its time to what was happening in your encoder rather than diagnosing from the color alone. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
Check whether the fault is already visible locally
Look at and listen to the encoder’s own preview while streaming. If available, review the local recording or archive too. A problem present in the local output points toward the encoder, the computer’s ability to run it, or the audio and video sources routed into it—not an internet connection that only carries the resulting stream.
Signs to investigate in the encoder or its inputs
- The preview or local recording is missing, frozen, choppy, distorted, or has audio problems.
- The encoder dashboard reports errors at the time the stream failed.
- CPU load is high or the encoder appears unable to keep up.
- A camera, microphone, capture device, or other source feeding the encoder is faulty or disconnected.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder output, errors, CPU load, sources, and local archive. If those checks do not explain a poor local output, trying another encoder can help isolate the cause.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If local output is healthy, test the outbound connection
When the encoder preview and recording look and sound right, the outbound connection becomes a stronger suspect. Test the strength of the connection used to send the stream and contact your internet service provider if the test identifies a connection problem.
A generic internet-speed result is useful only to the extent that it tests the upload path and settings used for your stream. YouTube recommends choosing a quality that the connection can deliver reliably and testing upload bitrate. Its guidance does not establish one upload-speed threshold that applies to every resolution and bitrate. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

Use viewer reports to narrow down the fault
Ask whether the creator sees the same problem, and whether affected viewers are on one device, one shared network, or different networks. The pattern helps locate where to investigate:
| Who reports the problem? | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| One viewer | Check that viewer’s device or connection first. |
| Several viewers on the same network | The shared viewer network may be involved. |
| Many viewers on different networks | A problem with the stream or encoder is one possibility; compare reports with the creator’s local output and Live Control Room messages. |
These patterns are clues, not proof: compare them with the health messages and encoder output before deciding where the fault lies. YouTube covers audience reports and network troubleshooting in its live-stream troubleshooting guide.

Prevent a repeat with a representative test
- Use the intended stream settings. Choose quality and bitrate your upload connection can reliably sustain.
- Test before the event. Include representative movement and audio, not just a static screen, so the test exercises the actual stream.
- Monitor both sides. Watch encoder output locally and Live Control Room health and messages while the test runs.
- Record what happened. Note the time of any fault, the message YouTube displayed, and whether the local preview or recording was affected.
YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips also describe unplugging the primary encoder’s Ethernet cable as a failover test. That is a specific test of a failover setup, not a requirement for diagnosing every stream. Start by testing your existing outbound connection; a wired connection or replacement cable is not automatically necessary.
