Check the set’s product page on your local LEGO.com store. LEGO’s status label beneath the price is the clearest guide: “Retired Product” means LEGO has removed the set from its current assortment and will not restock it; “Retiring soon” means retirement is approaching, not that the set is already gone. “Sold out” and “Temporarily out of stock” do not, by themselves, mean a set is retired.
Check the exact set on your local LEGO.com store
- Search LEGO.com using the set’s full name or set number, then open the product page for your country.
- Look beneath the price for the availability label. Match both the name and set number so you do not mistake a similar model for the one you want.
- Check the order control as well as the label. If it can be added to your bag, it is currently orderable in that store; a backorder may ship later rather than immediately.
- If the set does not appear, treat that as inconclusive and see LEGO’s guidance for sets you can’t find.
LEGO’s official definitions below come from its Canadian Help page. Wording and stock can vary by market and change over time, so the product page for the specific set and country is the one to rely on.

What each LEGO availability status means
| Status | LEGO’s stated meaning | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Available now | Currently available to order. | You can order it from LEGO at the time you check. |
| Backorders Accepted | Available to order, with shipping later on the stated backorder date. | You may place an order, but should expect a delay. |
| Temporarily out of stock | Not currently available to order; LEGO expects more stock. | This indicates a stock gap, not confirmed retirement. |
| Sold out | Sold out; more stock may arrive, but there is no confirmed date. | You cannot order it now, and a restock is uncertain. |
| Retiring soon | The set will be retired very soon. | It is approaching retirement, but may still be orderable. |
| Retired Product | The set is no longer in LEGO’s current assortment, and LEGO will not get more stock. | It is retired from LEGO’s assortment. |
| Coming Soon / Pre-Order | The product has not yet been released; a pre-order may be available for the latter. | These labels concern an upcoming release, not retirement. |
These definitions are from LEGO’s availability-status help page. Labels describe LEGO’s own assortment and stock, not every retailer’s inventory.
Can you still buy a set marked “Retiring soon”?
Often, yes. “Retiring soon” is a warning that retirement is near, not a statement that sales have ended. Check whether the product page still offers an order control and whether it is available in your region. LEGO’s US Retiring Soon category showed some labeled products with Add to Bag controls when checked, but that snapshot does not guarantee that a particular set is available now or in another country.

What if the set is missing from LEGO.com?
A missing product page does not prove that a set is retired. LEGO notes that older sets may be retired and may no longer appear on its website. But a product may also be unreleased, or available through early access that requires an Insider login. Those situations have different meanings: an upcoming set is not a retired one, and a missing listing alone does not establish which case applies.
If the set is not listed and you cannot tell why, LEGO recommends contacting support. Its UK Help page explains that an older set may have been retired and no longer appear on the site: What to do if you can’t find a set on LEGO.com.

Where to look after LEGO marks a set retired
When LEGO shows “Retired Product,” check authorized or established retailers and resale marketplaces if you still want the set. Any remaining third-party listing is separate from LEGO’s statement that it will not receive more stock. Check the exact set number, seller, condition, and listing details; LEGO’s status does not confirm that a particular seller has inventory.
