Bluesky’s published brand guidance does not say that the app automatically adds a logo when someone takes a screenshot. Does Bluesky automatically put its logo on screenshots?
That is not established by Bluesky’s official brand guidance or its logo-assets page. Neither source describes an automatic screenshot watermark or explains screenshot-specific rendering. If a screenshot shows a Bluesky butterfly, the available guidance cannot tell you whether it came from the app interface, the screenshot tool, or later editing.

Bluesky’s Safety account has separately said it does not currently take action against accounts that share Bluesky screenshots with commentary unless that commentary violates its Guidelines. That statement concerns moderation of screenshot-sharing with commentary; it does not explain how screenshots are rendered or whether a watermark is added.

What do the Bluesky logo and butterfly signify?
Bluesky’s brand guidance distinguishes the full logo—a butterfly symbol paired with the wordmark—from the butterfly used by itself. The full logo is recommended when introducing the brand, in co-branding, or whenever viewers may not recognize the butterfly alone. The standalone butterfly is suitable in contexts where the brand is already familiar, and as an icon linking to a Bluesky profile.

A recognizable logo in an image can help identify the platform associated with it. That is a practical inference from the brand’s identity rules, not evidence that a screenshot logo has a particular technical origin or a measured effect on trust. Bluesky’s verification announcement also encourages organizations and individuals to link their web presence to their social account as a way to establish authentic identity; it does not assign a special role to screenshot logos.

The current Brand Guidelines list Blue500 (#0560FF), white (#FFFFFF), and black (#000000) among the approved colors and prohibit recoloring the logo except for approved black and white variants. Use a version with suitable contrast for its background; do not alter, distort, crop, or redraw the mark. The guidelines were last updated May 15, 2026.

Where to get the logo and how to use it correctly
Bluesky provides official logo variants as SVG and PNG downloads on its brand assets page. Its guidance recommends SVG for digital use where supported. If you are adding a logo to a screenshot or other material, use an official asset rather than recreating the butterfly or wordmark.

- Select an approved color variant that remains legible against the background.
- Preserve the mark’s proportions and clear space; do not crop, distort, redraw, or recolor it beyond the approved variants.
- For co-branding, keep the marks separate and ensure your own brand is at least as prominent.
Bluesky Social PBC identifies both the wordmark and butterfly as its marks. Its official repository cautions against using them as another product’s identity or in a way likely to imply Bluesky publishes, endorses, or supports that product. A logo can communicate platform identity; using it to suggest an affiliation that does not exist can mislead viewers.
