To screenshot a web page behind a login, first sign in through a browser session you are authorized to use, open the page, and capture what that session displays. For a one-off image, Firefox Developer Tools can capture the full page or a selected element. For repeat captures, Playwright can save a viewport, an element, or the full scrollable page. Neither method bypasses authentication: the browser must already be able to access the page.
Take a one-time screenshot in Firefox

Open Firefox Developer Tools. If you want a full-page image and the screenshot control is not visible, open Developer Tools Settings and enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page” in the available toolbox buttons.

For the whole page, use the screenshot control. To capture one element, open the Inspector, right-click the element, and choose “Screenshot Node.”

Find the saved image in Downloads and inspect it before sharing. Firefox documents these capture steps in its Taking screenshots documentation.
Check the image for personal, financial, workplace, or account details that should not be shared. The capture feature does not itself determine whether an image is safe to distribute.
Automate repeat captures with Playwright
Use Playwright when screenshots need to be repeated or scripted. First make the target page available in a valid browser session; then call the screenshot API. The examples below show capture only. Capture the current viewport

Capture one element

Control the capture and protect selected content
Playwright also documents clipping and scale options. A CSS-pixel scale can reduce output dimensions on high-DPI displays; clipping can restrict the captured region. You can deliberately configure masking for selected elements, but Playwright does not automatically identify every sensitive field. Verify the resulting image before sharing it. Do not put passwords or reusable session secrets into screenshots or public repositories. The cited screenshot documentation describes capture features, not a universal method for preserving authenticated sessions; authentication setup depends on the site and your authorized access.

Choose the approach that fits the task

Both approaches assume the signed-in browser can open the page. Use an account and access method permitted by the site; screenshot instructions are not a way around a login or other access control.
Troubleshoot common capture problems

The page redirects to sign-in. The browser session may not be authenticated, or access may have expired. Sign in through the normal authorized flow and navigate back to the page.

The full-page control is missing in Firefox. Open Developer Tools Settings and enable the “Take a screenshot of the entire page” toolbox button.

The element screenshot fails or captures the wrong area. Check that the locator or selector identifies the intended element on the current page.

The screenshot exposes information you meant to hide. Inspect the output. If using Playwright, configure masking for specific elements and check that the mask appears in the saved image; masking is not automatic detection.
