Use Selenium’s Python WebDriver to open a restaurant website, set a consistent browser-window size, and save a PNG with driver.save_screenshot(). You can also save a particular page element—such as a hero section or menu—with that element’s screenshot() method. A standard window screenshot is not automatically a full-page capture, so record the capture scope accurately.
Capture a restaurant website with Selenium
This Python example saves a browser-window screenshot and, if the page has one, a separate screenshot of its <main> element. Install Selenium and have a compatible Chrome browser and WebDriver setup available before running it. Replace the example URL with the page you selected for your portfolio.

Choose the right capture scope

Make portfolio captures comparable and useful
Keep the capture conditions consistent
- Use the same viewport dimensions for pages you intend to compare; the example sets the browser window to 1440 × 1000 pixels.
- Capture the same type of view each time—window, element, or confirmed full page—and name files to identify both the restaurant and page.
- Choose the page state deliberately. A page may change as content loads or after interactive elements appear, so avoid comparing images captured in visibly different states.
- Inspect each result. If a site lacks a
<main>element, replace the locator with one that exists on that page, such as a verified CSS selector.
Record what each image represents
For each portfolio image, note the source website URL, access date, viewport dimensions, browser, and capture scope. These details help a reviewer distinguish a browser-window image from an element or full-page image; they are workflow recommendations, not guarantees that every site renders identically.

Troubleshooting
Chrome does not start
Confirm Chrome is installed and that Selenium can use a compatible browser driver. The example uses webdriver.Chrome(); environment-specific browser or driver setup can prevent the session from starting.
The element lookup fails
find_element(By.TAG_NAME, "main") raises an error if the page has no matching <main>. Inspect the page and use a locator that exists, or remove the optional element-capture lines if you only need the window image.

The screenshot is not full page
save_screenshot() captures the current window. Check whether your browser and binding support a full-page option before relying on one; the Ruby API’s conditional support does not establish behavior for Python.
The image is inconsistent with other portfolio entries
Check the browser window size, page state, and capture method recorded for each image. A window capture and an element capture show different scopes and should not be presented as equivalent views.
