How to Take Full-Page Screenshots of Search Results in Firefox

In Firefox, you can save an entire search-results page using the DevTools screenshot button or the Web Console command :screenshot results.png --fullpage. The button is the easiest option; the console is more useful when you need to set a filename or adjust capture options. These instructions are for Firefox; they are not verified here for Chrome, Edge, or Safari.

Prepare the search-results page for documentation

Open the search-results page and make the results you want to document visible. Before capturing, record the details that make the image interpretable later:

  • The exact search query and search engine.
  • The page URL and the date and time of capture.
  • Relevant region, language, or account context, if applicable.

A screenshot records how a page rendered at a particular moment. Keeping this context with the image helps distinguish what the capture shows from what the search results might show under different conditions.

Method 1: Use Firefox’s DevTools screenshot button

Firefox has a DevTools toolbar control for taking a full-page screenshot. You must enable the control before it appears.

  • INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
  • THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors

  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
  1. Open Firefox DevTools and open its Settings.
  2. Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
  3. Return to the DevTools toolbar and select the screenshot button.
  4. Save the image when prompted. Firefox saves the downloaded screenshot to Downloads.

Mozilla documents both full-page and single-element captures in its Firefox DevTools screenshot documentation. Use this method when you want a straightforward graphical workflow and do not need to specify capture parameters.

Method 2: Run a full-page capture in the Web Console

Open Firefox’s Web Console and enter:

:screenshot results.png --fullpage

This saves a full-page capture using the filename shown in the command. Mozilla’s documentation describes additional screenshot command options, including a delay, device pixel ratio, output file, and selector. These are useful when you need to control when the capture occurs, its scale, or which element is captured. Consult the command reference for the supported syntax.

Choose settings deliberately and note any that affect the image alongside your query and capture context. For example, a delay can matter if the page needs time to render before the capture.

Choose the method that fits your workflow

Method How you invoke it Best suited to
DevTools screenshot button Enable it in DevTools Settings, then select it in the toolbar. A simple graphical full-page capture without custom command options.
Web Console command Run :screenshot results.png --fullpage. Captures where naming the file or using options such as delay, scale, or selector matters.

Check and label the saved image

Open the saved image and confirm that it contains the search-result content you meant to document. Add a short caption or retain a companion note with the query and context recorded earlier. Firefox support documentation notes that downloaded screenshot filenames include date and time information; preserve that information or supplement it if you rename the file. Troubleshooting

  • The screenshot button is missing: Open DevTools Settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.
  • The capture is not full-page: Use the full-page toolbar control or include --fullpage in the Web Console command.
  • The command does not use the filename or capture settings you intended: Check the command syntax and options in Mozilla’s DevTools documentation.
  • The image is difficult to interpret later: Keep the query, search engine, URL, capture time, and relevant region or account context with it.

For an API-based capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. For example, using the documented cURL pattern with a search-results URL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=example -o results.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Learn more at ScreenshotNeo.
